Breakfast Topic: Are you achieving?
So, recently we learned that Blizzard would be doing everything they could to reward achievements retroactively. Besides the obvious rewards for exploring, they will also look at your quest logs and gear and give retroactive rewards out for dungeons and raids based on what they find.
Still have your Stormrage Legguards tucked in a corner of the bank? Congratulations, you'll get the Molten Core achievement. Turned in Hard to Kill 2 days after the dungeon went live? You'll automatically have the Magister's Terrace achievement come Wrath.
It's a pretty cool idea that'll help us old vets feel like we've accomplished something with these years in the game, and I'm all for it. It's also been sort of fun to look at my transferred characters on the Beta servers and see what I have and haven't run, or what I have run but am not credited for.
What's occurred to me though is that I could go back to the live servers, run a few dungeons, finish a few quests, tuck a few pieces of random loot away, and come out of the gate on Wrath release day with a whole bunch more shiny achievement points. You know, if I could actually tear myself away from the Beta servers.
But anyway, the idea is tempting, if only because it's a constructive thing to do with my characters before Wrath hits and the grind to 80 starts for real. After all, no matter how often they up the level cap and add new dungeons, they'll never take the Slave Pens achievement away from me.
Are any of you out there working at racking up what achievements you can preemptively? If not, are you considering it?

do you get anything for all these achievement points or is it just another e-peen competition?
Tumnus Aug 15th 2008 8:32AM
You get points you can spend on fun stuff.

Without e-peen competitions, we would never actually DO anything in Warcraft.
E-peen (and it's real world counterpart) clears instances, down bosses, farms mats, builds bridges, inspires the talented to run for President, motivates the search for the cure for cancer...
Yeha, the world runs on e-peen.

I'm farming a bit of rep and some vanity pets for achievements at the moment. Oh and I'm working on the arena master trinket. :) Unfortunately, I've deleted my t2 breastplate and legplates a while ago in order to free up bagspace, so no retroactive MC and BWL achievements for me :(

The achievements I'm the most concerned about are those you wouldn't be able to accomplish in WotLK - like getting the Amani Bear mount, or (I guess) results of similarily timed events -.
Most players I know are planning to raid oldies once having had a look to WotLK content, anyway, so it wouldn't be too hard to find spots to anyone in the mood of getting achievements.

The Amani bear and other achievements which may not even be possible anymore (like getting murloc pets from former BlizzCons) are Feats of Strength, which are worth 0 points each. So they're something to show off and be proud of, but there's no achievement points to be missed out on.

Nice point, thanks for the response :)

Well considering before achievements I ahd no interest in a NEtherwing drake, and now I find myself wating to collect flying mounts, I guess that yes, I'll become an achievement whore. :p
It also helps that vanity pets and mounts are going to be spells and not items clogging up your inv. I wish they'd do the same for tabards.

Currently doing the following two:
- /hug 10 dead opponents in PvP
-/love all the critters in the game.

I have a feeling that achievements like that won't be retroactively rewarded. Hard to track, imo.
tuckles Aug 15th 2008 8:21AM
Already had the Outland exploration, way before achievements were even announced, and i got myself a bloodsail admiral hat today. Aaaarrrrg!
Smurk Aug 15th 2008 8:22AM
None of these will make me feel like I've "accomplished something," so no, not interested.
Soffra Aug 15th 2008 8:38AM
are the achievements per character or per account? Will my Dreanai mage be SoL with all the old world achievements, because i dont really play my old world raiding toon anymore?
Anaughtybear Aug 15th 2008 8:45AM
What's the point? Why waste the time doing this unless the rewards are sweet as hell? So far I haven't seen or heard of actually getting anything besides a list out of it.
don Aug 15th 2008 9:03AM
So far, there are three or four titles, a tabard and a minipet. Much more will be revealed I'm sure.
Dightkuz Aug 15th 2008 8:46AM
I'm considering doing TBC instances to get exalted with some reputations but I just cant be arsed to do it. Was thinking maybe I'll solo instances when I'm 80 instead.
Celton Aug 15th 2008 8:59AM
Why waste time playing the game at all? Because its fun.
dotorion Aug 15th 2008 9:02AM
Trying to grind a bit for Justicar title, but been terribly disheartened by WSG loss streaks (WSG rep is such a pain - most losses are like 3-0 or 3-1 losses with almost no rep gained for 30-45 mins of messing about).
don Aug 15th 2008 9:03AM
Yeah, I've been having fun working on some of the weirder ones. A few nights ago we were farming AQ40 Trash for the red mount.. sadly, it didn't drop in the two hours we were farming. Tonight I'm getting together with some friends and grinding out Bloodsail reputation.
Evan Aug 15th 2008 9:19AM
I'd consider working more towards them if I had some sort of sensible guide as to which ones will be grandfathred in and what the most sensible way to get them would be. You know, a list of them all in once place that I could check off one by one...
hmmm.... wait a second... :)
