Reader Jacckk sent along this funny bit of
WoW, hidden in a strange place. On the menu of one Eden's Pizza in St. Paul, Minnesota, there is
an item for an "Ornate Triple Pepperoni Blunderbuss," right in between the "Mean Supreme" and "Sicilian" styles (actually, the "Rastafarian" sounds really good, too). And yes, for those of you who've done some gun shopping in Azeroth, the artery-clogging pepperoni with mozza and feta monstrosity is apparently a reference to the old
Ornate Blunderbuss, a vendor weapon available pretty commonly throughout the game.
Why they'd name their pizza after a vendor weapon in
WoW, we have no idea, but there you go. If you do call them up to order the pizza though (think they'd deliver me one to Chicago?), make sure to get a side of Sulfuras Buffalo Wings, too -- they'll make you
"taste the fire of Sulfuron!"*
* I also would have accepted "Sulfuras Buffalo Wings: By fire be purged!"

Hmmm... I'm an hour from the cities, I might have to go try that and report back!

For the record, Eden pizza is REALLY good pizza. They are famous locally for really unusual combinations of toppings and super thin crust.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone who works there is a fan of the engineering profession in WoW, but would have been easy for the author of the article to fact check.

I'm about 15 minutes from the cities... I'll beat you there! :P

This is probably not a reference to WoW:
"The blunderbuss is a muzzle-loading firearm with a short, large caliber barrel, which is flared at the muzzle, and used with shot."

wowinsider Aug 15th 2008 1:16PM
Right, because Blunderbusses are regularly qualified with "Ornate". Wake up.
The Hammer Aug 15th 2008 1:34PM
Well, yes, they are. It's a blunderbuss for crying out loud - of course it's showy!
Not seeing it as a reference, personally.
Gman Aug 15th 2008 2:08PM
True, "Ornate" is probably the key word. It seems random that it's named after a grey item though.
Searching for "Ornate Blunderbuss" on google returns about 10K pages with many wow-related hits at the top, but there are still non-wow related pages. Filtering any pages with the words "warcraft" and "wow" still returns 4K hits. So actually, Blunderbusses ARE regularly qualified with "Ornate".
Milktub Aug 15th 2008 1:12PM
A Blunderbuss is a generic term for a muzzle-loading gun.
Milktub Aug 15th 2008 1:20PM
Yeah, on second thought, Ornate is the key word here. I'm getting off work early today, so maybe I'll take a trip over to St. Paul instead of going to my usual pizza place.
Aarkan Aug 15th 2008 1:21PM
Are you really crazy enough to think that this is definitely related to WoW? Did the guy walk up to the owner and ask if he named it after that? I mean... that's just crazy.
Keyra Aug 15th 2008 3:02PM
Sigh...as everyone else has already pointed out, it's listed as "ORNATE blunderbuss" - that's not a common reference to a blunderbuss in the real world (although it is a very UN-common reference) but in WoW it IS a very common reference, so...do the math.
Broken Bottle Aug 15th 2008 1:30PM
And now you've cursed this poor pizza shop owner with a million phone calls from curious readers. Lucky him...
my2cents Aug 15th 2008 2:02PM
And probably several new customers...that poor man ;)
Grock Aug 15th 2008 1:37PM
hay gusy i herd that hanzo swrod is a reference to kill bill!
JPN Aug 15th 2008 1:46PM
I think it's a reference - having "ornate" and "blunderbuss" in close relation probably doesn't apply to much outside of WoW. those aren't two words you find close together often. If it's not a WoW reference it's just....kinda dumb.
Tyler Aug 16th 2008 12:55AM
Ya, I mean... how does a pizza even vaguely relate to a firearm? Whether or not its a nod to WoW it doesn't make much sense
Badger Aug 15th 2008 1:48PM
Oh my *GOD* that sounds delicious.
Ametrine Aug 15th 2008 2:16PM
OH HELL YES.
I want three.

Next we'll see porn named after all those anal [link spell] jokes in trade chat.

GOOGLE IT!
Here's the search results page for "Ornate Blunderbuss":
http://www.google.com/search?q=Ornate+Blunderbuss&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Being that the first page is entirely made up of references to WoW might lend itself to the argument for the fact that the pizza is also a reference to WoW. However, if you read on to page two, there are also instances of reference to "real life" guns being qualified with the "Ornate" adjective.
Either way... the only way to be 100% sure is to ask the owner himself/herself. So... call 'em up.
