That familiar idea sounds cool. I'd like to see it do some minor utility stuff, too. I remember in RuneScape (don't worry, I want this game to be even less like RuneScape than you do, but it still had a few fun mechanics) they had servants or captured imps or something that would fetch a certain amount of items from your bank while you were out in the world. Maybe the familiars could do something like that. Maybe take your gear to get repaired or something.

Would you be left cold and naked in the midst of evil, growling predators while your servant walked to town and back? And what if he were hijacked along the way? Someone would find quite a few epics on that corpse, as I assume he would not be too fluent in the fighting arts, being a servant and not an adventurer/hero himself.
