I would love a mirror image spell. It's the whole reason I love playing a mage; trickery, deception and confusion. There's nothing like blinking behind a charging enemy and seeing them spin around trying to find you, timing the perfect counterspell to that heal or frustrating a player with polymorph. Personally I would be happy to see mirror image working like the rather impotent worg illusions in SFK. http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=5097, provided it is workable in both PvE and PvP (and has a short cooldown).
In the same vain, I would also like more disruptive and control spells like:
1) Spell Reflection
2) Area of effect spell shielding (e.g. 50% spell damage inside zone, perhaps includes friendly spells).
4) More "wards" like the fire / frost ward, e.g. nature, shadow, holy & physical (maybe all share the same cooldown). Would help our survivability too...

Well I'm not an RPer, but "magicians" are generally defined as people who play magic tricks to entertain. A common pseudonym for a magician is an illusionist (or some might say a particular type of magic), so I would say deception is a defining characteristic too.
Rogues, imo, are renouned for being devious, sneaky and unscrupulous - which is why you have back-stab, pickpocket and blind, etc. It's hardly a black and white distinction of their personalities.
Personally, while many want mages to be glass cannons and the kings of ranged damage (*cough* hunters - oh that's physical damage, big difference :p ) I would like the glass to evolve into a tactical "control" glass. After all, doesn't the traditional lore say mages have the highest intelligence? So I think they should be the ones with mirror image, crowd control, basically anything that can effect the balance of the game by "changing the rules".
Which gives me a great idea for a new 80 spell...
"Mass confusion".
Enemies within a 15 yard radius cannot distinguish friend from foe for 30 seconds.
PvE -> enemies have a chance of attacking each other, some threat dynamics as mind control.
PvP -> affected "confused" players can target both allies and the enemy and will suffer damage from offensive abilities. (Might make Orb of Deception really useful...)
Hell, if mages don't get it, maybe priests should...sounds like fun to me regardless.
