Around Azeroth: Theatre des vermins
"... and what's the deal with those dwarf warriors? You know what I'm talking about. No regard for us critters at all, and then suddenly they get a shiny new weapon and hunt us down high and low. And every time they kill us they get a number like "238" above their head. What is that, anyway? The number of days since they've bathed? (No one laughs.) They're almost as bad as the newbie blood elves and those Silvermoon cats. Talk about a feline massacre. Mee-ouch! (No one laughs.) Well, you've been a great audience tonight. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here, mostly because we're about to be run over by an Elekk. Thanks for attending Level 1 Critter Stand-Up, and remember to come back tomorrow, when Archie the cockroach reveals the dark secret of Jeremiah Payson."
Anderek of Lightbringer sent us this image straight from the underbelly of Dalaran in the Wrath of the Lich King beta -- and we'd love to have your beta screenshots, too! If you have anything our readers might like, beta or not, sharing it is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no sunsets.

Congratulations of missing the point of that little group - it's a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reference. 4 turtles living in the sewers, and a rat teaching them what to do.
Clasifyd Aug 18th 2008 10:28AM
Yup, and if the screenshot were a little wider, you can see some green ooze. Awesome reference, IMHO.

I never watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- I was about seven or eight when they were on, and was more into You Can't Do That On Television.
Heilig Aug 18th 2008 10:09AM
Level 1 critter stand-up? Are you nuts? How could you miss the obvious Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reference? That's clearly Master Splinter teaching the boys how to roundhouse kick some guy's face in.
Markymark Aug 18th 2008 10:15AM
You need a better screenshot their is one that shows the chemical vials in the back lol. An obvious nod to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Shouldn't it be "Théatre des vermines"?
It's Monday morning, so nitpicking is allowed.
Gunder Aug 18th 2008 11:16AM
Yes the correct spelling is "Théatre des vermines"

I missed the TMNT reference mainly because the last time I watched the show or cared about it was probably at least 10 years ago, if not more. Obviously it *is* a reference but you guys need to calm yourselves if you're jumping on a writer because they missed a reference to mid-90s cartoon that they not have ever watched.
Heilig Aug 18th 2008 10:55AM
It doesn't matter whether they watched the show or not, it was a dominant pop culture theme throughout the early 90's, spawning a half dozen TV shows, countless toys, 3 movies, and 4 video games. It would be like a 12 year old girl today not knowing who Hannah Montana is. They were EVERYWHERE. You had to live in a cave to miss them.

Gotta agree with Epsilon. Not only did I see the movies way back when, but I also had a ton of TMNT comics. Don't even get me started on how many quarters I put into the arcade game. Despite all that, I didn't catch the reference since it happened so long ago that it's hardly the first thing that pops into my mind anymore. It's kind of unreasonable to assume that everyone remembers all the same pop culture references as you do.

WHAT? some people doesn't know the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comics ?! Fraunlaven ! :)
super_bik Aug 18th 2008 11:06AM
You never know, Splinter could be telling them some jokes...

Turtle Power!
Cowy Aug 18th 2008 2:56PM
Ah yes, TNMT... back when human-like animals could be enjoyable and fun without being labled as "Furry", and greedily snatched up by furry fans everywhere.
Man I hate what Furry fandom /furries have done to an average persons enjoyment of humanoid creatures. I honestly Wish the whole furry "culture" would drop off the face of the earth. Theres probably a couple thousand furries out there that want hawt steamy lovin with the turtles, if not Master Splinter. :/

You can blame me, i dont watch TMNT and i had no idea that that was the reference i thought all the ooze and stuff was for show so i zoomed in real close to take the picture. -Anderek
