Characters for iPhone updated to 2.0
The Warcraft Characters app for iPhone that we reported on a while ago has been updated to version 2.0, and with it come a host of terrific improvements. As we were told last time, gear has been added in, so your iPhone can not only show you information about your (or anyone else's) characters, but it can now also show you all of their gear, and even reputation status. And there's good news for non-US users, too: the app now supports characters from any and all realms, not just US and EU, but Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese realms as well. The only thing that's still missing is seeing individual talents -- otherwise, it's as featured an app as you can get. Sure, guild search and stats might be nice, and there's always extra features like be.imba integration, or character comparisons, but as a portable Armory, it works great as is. We're not sure if this is all Rudi's work or a result of a teamup with Omen of Clarity (who's been working on an iPhone web app for a while), but either way, great job.And there's a shiny new icon, too (and I like it a lot better). Characters is now available on the iPhone's App Store for the low, low price of free.

Best iPhone app out there for the price.

I just updated... I love it!
But it still has crashing problems when searching, but I figured out just go to settings and then click search and you can search the armory.

I was messing around with it earlier, and it's very well done. There is still some stuff that could be added, but it is a seriously cool program as of now. The developer has done a great job and it is free.
What is nice is if you click on an item, it brings up the stats, gem slots, and where you can get it from.

I'm a big fan as well.
Unfortunatley you can't see what the character has equipped as far as gems and enchants.
Oh well, I'm very much looking forward to the next build of this little gem.

Very interesting app.
After reading this, I was wondering if there'd be any interest for a similar app for the BlackBerry products. I currently work the company and been thinking about doing device application development work. This would be a nice little project to do on the side, but I'd need to know what kind of interest there is for such an app.
Let me know what you all think.

blackberry?
didn't people use those way back in 2006?
Tony Aug 18th 2008 4:03PM
I think Blackberrys are awful devices.
If you want to make it however, go for it! At the very least you'll learn something in the process.

What kind of a name is ... Evil Spunk?
Coldmiser Aug 18th 2008 3:57PM
Obviously it's a RP server name.
spunkatron Aug 18th 2008 4:32PM
Actually, Evilspunk is not on an RP server. He's on a regular PVP server. I like the name because no one else has it on the armory. =). I guess I shouldn't be using 3rd person perspective because I am Evilspunk.
I helped Rudi with Characters. Which is why he used my profile as a screenshot.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Note that this is by no means a terminal release -- future versions are being planned.
Go to http://rudip.com/iphone-apps/characters/ to send in your feedback, or please do so directly on the App Store.

this was a major update and even did away with the necessity of another app which was specifically for checking armor. hoepfully server status and arena info will be implemented into this one as well so i can trash the other two warcraft apps i have.
and maybe one day blizz will release an official app compelte with character models
Rudi Aug 18th 2008 6:16PM
I'm planning to add arena stats in the next release (week from now?), along with few others bugs that were found.
Server status won't be part of the app, though. There's app already on App Store that works well enough, and adding too much clutter would slow Characters down unnecessarily. Characters focus on... well, characters. :)

awesome... i love your work and am really stoked that you are putting so much into this app. it shows.
keep up the great work

*sigh* I was going to make an iPhone app just like this one (but better than version 1... same as version 2). Unfortunately for me, my Beta key came the day after I started and so I'm only 3/4ths of the way done. With this one updated, however, I'll have to rethink the whole thing =/

Rudi,
Any word on whether we'll ever be able to see Talents and/or equipped gems or enchants?
(I think talents is the most important)
GreyHammer Aug 18th 2008 11:51PM
Shameless plug here:
On the latest WOW Insider Podcast (episode 51) they featured a short discussion of my site: MicroArmory.com. It was made for all mobile devices, and works well on iPhone, too. It was tested on BlackBerry OS, iPhone, and Windows Mobile.
You can see character gear enchants and gems, character talents, reputation, and even pictures of your gear from WowHead. It will save your recent searches too, so you can go back to them with one click.

What about 'The Rest of the World' ?
GreyHammer Aug 19th 2008 11:20AM
EU and other realms will be coming soon :)
I am but one man!

I think its a great idea, i use it all the time at home when im starting a pug group to try and suss out the new additions and make sure they arent complete noob geared. Its even better over wifi and saves u having to alt-tab to the armory or wait until the new additions is within range to inspect.
ryane Aug 19th 2008 12:28AM
1 suggestion i have would be to include talent trees. That would be super!
