Players respond to the cinematic

We'd point out, too, that this trailer didn't really have a "You are Not Prepared"-style catchphrase (though the word "King" definitely echoes with significance right at the end there). Clearly, Blizzard chose to go a different direction this time around, and whether it worked or not, of course, is up to you.
Unfortunately, Gnomes didn't get their day... or did they? When players cry foul on the forums, Vaneras (in official blue text) answered with the picture above. Can you see the Death Knight Gnome hidden in among the Undead army? I like Schwick's answer even better, though -- there's probably a Gnome Rogue stealthed right behind Arthas. Those little buggers are everywhere.
Update: A few people are suggesting that there is more to the trailer that we haven't seen, but Nethaera has confirmed that that's everything. She commented on the forums that the trailer only showed half the battle, but later confirmed that she meant the story was incomplete (and that we needed to complete it by going to Northrend), and not that there was more of the trailer to show.

It's only a part of the complete cinematic (Hench trailer). Nef confirmed it no too long ago on the forums.

Nevermind !

Hee hee, I was going to say, maybe I misunderstood Neth, but it's not a fact the cinematic is incomplete, but it only tells part of the story. The rest of the storyline is for us to play out.

Indeed ! Missread it the first time :<
Still, I like the way they went with the cinematic. Reminds me more of the warcraft games then the previous ones.

Happens to the best of us, my friend. ^^
Draenors Aug 21st 2008 1:36PM
Yeah, I can clearly see the Gnome Death Knight on the picture.
Treleon Aug 21st 2008 1:37PM
I agree. The first thing I thought after watching it was: "Okay...that was cool...but it would have been nice if they had showed anything else in addition to Arthas being a badass."
Zakk Aug 21st 2008 9:16PM
That's what I was thinking, too. You'd think they'd show some Dalaran stuff, or something. It was definitely awesome, but I think I like the BC and Vanilla formulas better.

I completely agree. The presentation was flawless, the animation was incredible, the detail was flawless...
It was also boring as hell. Outside of the badass dragon (which I enjoyed very much), I could have fallen asleep on this. At least with BC you got cameos of all the classes in their new higher level capacities, you got 2 new races and absolutely stunning introductory sequences for them.
I see WOTLK as being WOW's death cry. And frankly after all the money they've made ignoring us and they come out with this pathetic excuse of an expansion, yeah, it's safe to say the majority of us are quite UNDERwhelmed.
Warhammer is where I'm going.

I hope you're are right. I wanna seea Gnome rogue jump up and Ambush a Tauren in the back, lol.
Saffiron looks bad ass though.
Unmei Aug 21st 2008 1:51PM
its possibly another dragon named Sindragosa :) We dont' know Mmo-Champion has pictures of her up from some datamining.

I haven't been to a movie in 2 years, but I'd pay to see two hours of that in a theater. Blizzard is crazy for not making a full-length movie in the style of their cinematics.
Blayed Aug 21st 2008 1:46PM
I think the second last boss of Arthas' instance should be "Willy McSprazzle"
Blayed Aug 21st 2008 1:46PM
It didnt post my whole comment.. Meant to say Arthas' Pet Gnome.
rosencratz Aug 21st 2008 1:54PM
Didn't they do this with TBC? Only show the bits with Illidan in and then later release a full length version?
Either way i don't care personally the trailer kicks a lot of ass. It doesn't really bother me that my specific race/class was represented in the vid.
I'd be happy to see a second half with our guys landing in northrend and scrapping over the scourge but i wouldn't be too fussed if this was more or less all there is to it. It's beautiful
Koll Anderson Aug 21st 2008 1:49PM
ehhh, I meant SAPPHIRON
Carnagefiend Mar 18th 2009 8:01PM
I'm one of those Arthas fans that got their fill. I'm also a huge, huge scourge fan so I got a lot more.
The fact of the matter is this felt more like it was connected to the story. Instead of "LOOK! Blood elf!"
"LOOK! TROLL ON A RAPTOR!"
"LOOK! MAGE AND POLYMORPH SHENANIGANS!"
"Oh, Illidan too!"
Look, the fact of the matter is WoW almost lost touch with what it was as an RTS... it's a story. Illidan was a final footnote on, what was effectively, "a lot of other s**t".
This is getting back to Warcraft and the focus of the war. Arthas isn't a footnote. He's the Lich King and crucial to the plot. The great undead prince has awoken, and the trailer is showing he means business.
3 cheers I say!

What is it with the Gnomes? Who cares if Gnomes ever show up in the trailers. Personally, I hope to avoid seeing them now or ever.
On another note, the cinematic we got is pretty cool. If it's only a portion then I guess we'll get to see the whole thing at Blizzcon.
And was it just me or did Arthas seem weary or slightly depressed about where life has taken him? "Well... I dunno... maybe I should go ahead and raise that undead dragon now. *sigh*"
darian Aug 21st 2008 1:59PM
He's spent three years sleeping, and Icecrown Glacier probably doesn't have a working coffee machine.
More seriously, I didn't get that vibe. He was ponderous perhaps, but not depressed.
Steve Aug 21st 2008 2:10PM
You wonder if maybe some small shred of Arthas' humanity is trying to keep him from completely going over the edge ("there's still good in him, that kind of thing"). Could also tie in with how we hear Terenas' voice, like Arthas is still conflicted on the inside.
