Players respond to the cinematic

We'd point out, too, that this trailer didn't really have a "You are Not Prepared"-style catchphrase (though the word "King" definitely echoes with significance right at the end there). Clearly, Blizzard chose to go a different direction this time around, and whether it worked or not, of course, is up to you.
Unfortunately, Gnomes didn't get their day... or did they? When players cry foul on the forums, Vaneras (in official blue text) answered with the picture above. Can you see the Death Knight Gnome hidden in among the Undead army? I like Schwick's answer even better, though -- there's probably a Gnome Rogue stealthed right behind Arthas. Those little buggers are everywhere.
Update: A few people are suggesting that there is more to the trailer that we haven't seen, but Nethaera has confirmed that that's everything. She commented on the forums that the trailer only showed half the battle, but later confirmed that she meant the story was incomplete (and that we needed to complete it by going to Northrend), and not that there was more of the trailer to show.

Frost Drake > Every Gnome possible imo.
bob Aug 21st 2008 2:15PM
Are they going to have a faction of redeemed frost drakes that you can get to exalted with and get a frost drake as a flying mount for your death night?
Or did I just dream that up because of how amazingly awesome it would be?

I think the big 'problem' of the trailer is that the climax is when arthas ressurects the frost wyrm.
Previously, the climax has been battles.
Battles make a better and bigger climax than a frost wyrm coming out of the ground.
Overall i think its probobly the best trailer they've done, but its still incredibly dissapointing, if you understand what i mean.

This caught me off-guard, and really has me excited to finish what was left off at the end of the Warcraft 3 games.
I thought it was great. While I loved the first WoW cinematic, BC's was nice to see a follow-up. Doing that song and dance again would have been very boring for me - especially when put up against the recently released full version of DoW II.
It's nice just to see a cinematic that reminded me of the classic Blizzard style, really.

I couldn't be happier about this trailer. The last thing I needed to see was another polymorph or fireball.
The trailer should be about the part of the game that's new, like Arthas, not about the stuff we already know... like "OMG LOOK.. ORCS ARE BIG, RAWR! NIGHT ELF LADY WEARING REVEALING ARMOR! SEXY!"

A-freaking-men.

/agree
They basically decided to go for a Loregasm this time around, rather than ZOMG PewPew Loot Orgy.

Meh, it's a trailer. Good, bad, or overly frosty, it's fairly insignificant other than being something pretty to watch before getting in the queue to enter your server on launch day.

By far the worst cinematic of them all.
Graphics and epicness are there,sure.
But it just feels empty.
Uninsipring and boring.
The first one was amazing and epic, it introduced us with WOW to WOW.
The TBC cinematic was great too, it had a bit of everything what I liked.Maybe my favorite.
It had all classes, the new races, outland and Illidan.
"You are not prepared" .
But these is just meh.
Arthas,a dragon and some undeads.
Feels more like a middle cutscene from a warcraft game than a world of warcraft intro cinematic.

You sound like the many others who were not satisfied because it didn't fulfill your ADHD hunger of seeing a mass amount of jumbled images rather than a well put together trailer that focuses on the main topic of Wrath of the LICH KING :D
Badger Aug 21st 2008 4:05PM
I'm gonna have to disagree.
The original cutscene was about ten seconds of an emotionally detached, obviously stuck-up Night Elf woman narrating history that most people had already read, followed by three minutes of heavily-armed people beating the crap out of each other with jerky motions and no interesting dialogue.
The 'BC' cutscene was a bit more OMGworthy. It really did an excellent job introducing Illidan and basically giving the player a clear warning that he/she was about to face a true bad-ass ... but then it devolved into another three minutes of heavily-armed people beating the crap out of each other with jerky motions and no interesting dialogue (with Murlocs and Sheep for comic relief). Illidan saves the day with his Epic catchphrase at the conclusion, though.
This time around ... It's like I said above. It's a Loregasm. And it *definitely* sticks to the darker feel that the designers have been promising for months.

No.
I just dont care about Arthas.
And these trailer is all about him.
I felt the other cinematics are better because they are about the world of warcraft and the many things in it.
Many classes, races, places, etc. Its a world full of interesting and diverse lore.
All we see in these trailer is a generic snowy place, arthas , a frost wyrm and many undeads.
I like lore but I dont find Arthas interesting enough to make the entire WoW:WotLK cinematic about him.
darian Aug 21st 2008 5:23PM
Contrary to popular belief, some trailers aren't just about what we "see".
Eye candy/excitement wise, there isn't a lot to be had in this trailer to be sure. If that's what you wanted, you're bound to be disappointed.
What this trailer did do was very clearly contrast who Arthas was meant to be and who he became, and very clearly show that Arthas is decisively so. From the very first line, Arthas stands as a sick parody of his own father's words.
That kind of clever play on words and images is what separates classic films from summer flicks.
Terrant Aug 21st 2008 5:39PM
I think the people who say that those of us who wanted the traditional, quickly cutting battle scenes are simple-minded ADHD sufferers are misrepresenting us, and those who think a trailer saying "Look at Arthas! He's the opposite of what his family wanted!" is Lore-emphasizing have set the bar far too low.
The Warcraft RTS games are about the major Lore characters. But the MMO is about us - we the humans, tauren, orcs, elves, whatever who muddle through the complicated world of Azeroth. Sure, Arthas is the reason we're heading to Northrend and his actions, past and future, are going to shape our adventures there - but World of Warcraft is ultimately about us, and it would have been nice to see ourselves represented in balance with the main villain, as the Burning Crusade trailer did so successfully.

This intro is simply paying the price (high hype). But as time passes on, everyone will recognize its quality and greatness...
a little short, but sweet anyway...
Siona Aug 21st 2008 3:03PM
which hearkens back to perhaps the best cutscene Blizzard's ever done)
WHAT?! I think not! Thrall and Grom killing Mannoroth, THAT was epic.
Bregor Aug 21st 2008 6:52PM
Damn straight!
Radiophonic Aug 21st 2008 3:01PM
Wow, people are so petty.
Meethan Aug 21st 2008 3:10PM
I like this because it's like Diablo Cinematics. The BC was a little odd to be honest. When Icecrown is released, they should show the "Second half"
