WoW Moviewatch: Precious Blood
When I wrote about Silent Wind on Tuesday, I mentioned that WoW was lacking in the horror department. I had no idea that Legs was working on the most epic vampire flick I've seen! It's been a little over two months since her last machinima, Silversun, but she hasn't lost her touch at all.
Precious Blood is a story of heartache. Love is lost and lives are changed -- some for eternity. You can expect plenty of blood from this film, but it's not distasteful. Legs has a flare for cinematic shots and quality content. More gore, please!

That movie screenshot looks like a bestiality porno image.

There are no Vampires in WoW though.

I thought the audio was perfect.

Brilliantly done.

I'm sorry, but I found this one rather trite and predictable. It seems like the video creator was just using models he found pretty or hot without any consideration or thought for game lore. Sure, you can say that he was just using the models to make machinima and that this doesn't really have anything to do with WoW, but for those of us who care about the game lore a bit, it doesn't make sense for a Draenei of all races to be a vampire. They haven't even been on Azeroth long, having just crash-landed their spaceship at the time of the BC.
And even if you completely disassociate the models from the game, the story is very been there and done that. It looks nice, and I appreciate the time the author put into it, but that's about it.

Agreed.

While personally I agree with you, (hell, I'm tired of vampires OUTSIDE of WoW, let alone inside it) I think judging this piece for its lore-appropriateness or story is completely missing the point. Those very elements you pointed out suggest to me that this piece was created more as an exploration of visual and auditory style and a means for the creator to try out and develop new editing techniques than as a vehicle for storytelling. And in those regards the video is a spectacular success.
It is nothing if not visually remarkable. The direction of and composition of shots are spectacular, and the edits and effects all work in harmony to draw the viewer in and evoke atmosphere. The audio is similarly well-chosen, though I found some of the transitions jarring. (The credits do not list an artist, so I am left assuming it is ripped from other sources.)
So, as far as story goes - no, it's nothing original. And if you don't like vampires, this will be one continuous, big eye roll for you. But as far as being visually and auditorially appealing - A+. If you DO like vampires, and don't mind seeing the predictable and well-worn vampire plot, then you will no doubt enjoy seeing them stylistically rendered via WoW in this film.

You can make machinima without lore! This is a concept that WoW viewers can't get and it just blows my mind. Think of WoW as the real world and, for example, Thrall and Janna are actors, so they go to an audition. They get a part in the latest movie, but that's not them up on the screen. That's their character. Are we good now?

Moo, did you read the second paragraph of my post?
Urbonov Aug 21st 2008 2:27PM
What was that chest piece the vampire was wearing? Is that actually in game? Seemed a little...revealing, even for WoW.
redgel Aug 21st 2008 5:45PM
What's the music in the video from?

I love Legs' work and always look forward to new movies.

The story was terribly cliche, but the execution was absolutely marvelous and aside from a few tiny minor technical critiques, a brilliant use of the given means of machinima.
schwonga Aug 22nd 2008 12:30PM
Pretty much what you said. One thing I would like to note is that although this cliche is really old, having any sort of truly good and original idea is terribly hard to do with the high proliferation, emulating, blatant ripping off and selling out of said ideas.
Thank you internets! Ether way, very pretty.

I'm sorry to say that but... shut the fuck up. This Machinima is NOT to be considered a Warcraft Storyline Movie! This is a Movie that tells a quite ironic story about vampire, love, death. It might be cliche, but that's not the point. The point is that Legs did a great Job with editing it. There isn't even Jaina, Thrall, Arthas or the Ashbringer in it ... HOW would you even consider it a Lore movie ? Do you start crying every friggin time there is a PvP-Movie, because it has nothing to do with the Lore ? God, I hate people like you.
wolfy Aug 22nd 2008 12:39PM
Totally agree with you.. you can make a movie using wow as the actors without having to involve lore for crying out loud what is with you people.. see it for the artistic concept that it is.
unfortunately this site is missing an "ignore" list..

Kirtonos the Herald, who you lure with the blood of innocents in Stratholme, is a vampire. Drinks blood, flies around on leathery wings, etcetera.
And anyone who thinks draenei aren't corruptible has apparently slept through the mishmashed excuse for lore Burning Crusade gave us.
Balthamae Aug 22nd 2008 8:40PM
im just so tired of all the modelviewer crap, i wanna see real ingame models. Its ok to use MW for effects and shots you can't do in wow once in a while but whole movies based on MW look fake and halfassed, sorry.
