Out of curiosity, did you actually bother to *read* the article past the mention of the word "Jew?" It's very relevant. David explains within the same paragraph, and it's clarified several times throughout the Comments section.

I draw a parallel to certain elements in the story of Jewish history, both modern and mythical, because for our culture, those stories are really important. They have so much meaning for who we are today and what sort of real-life demons we must struggle with inside ourselves. It's only natural that meaningful elements in good stories should pop up over and over again -- it means that we as human beings are trying to come to terms with who we are and what we've done.
It's a human message I'm seeing here, not a political one. I'd be just as happy to draw a parallel to Islamic or Buddhist stories if I saw it.
