Ask a Beta Tester: Of Northrend and Nesingwary

Do we get to see Hemet Nesingwary do some big game hunting in Northrend and if so, who did he leave in charge of the Nagrand Expedition?
Where there's new adventures to be had -- and new beasts to hunt -- you will find Hemet Nesingwary, struggling to rid the world of dangerous creatures everywhere. Though on the beta realms, his camp in Nagrand still contains Hemet himself, we're guessing that when Wrath goes live they'll replace him with a stand-in, similar to what they did when he came to Nagrand from Stranglethorn Vale.

These days, Hemet hunts in Sholazar Basin (actually, he appears to have crash-landed in the Basin, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have time to stop for a good hunt), and with a larger force than ever, with a total of fourteen NPCs, including an innkeeper, a stable master, a smith (for repairs, of course), and plenty of quest-givers. All it's lacking to call the place home sweet home is a flight path.

Aracross asked....
Tell me about Old Stratholme. Do you know with who we will gain reputation? A new faction? Or no faction?
At present, it's the same old Caverns of Time faction. Not particularly interesting, as there don't seem to be any new reputation rewards, either. It may, however, change.
lynnia asked....
People keep talking about how fair or unfair it is to get to Dalaran at certain levels. But surely you only have to get a mage or warlock to take you there once then you can use the flight point or is the flight point on the ground and you have to teleport up every time?
If you get summoned by a Warlock or ported by a Mage into Dalaran, you can pick up a the flight path, set your hearthstone to the local inn, or whatever you'd like. I'm guessing that Warlocks and Mages will make a tidy profit, early on, bringing their fellow players to Dalaran, and most of us will be setting our hearthstones there for easy transportation throughout Northrend (Dalaran is conveniently located in the center of the continent), Azeroth (with portals to all major cities), and Outland (with a portal to Shattrath). And for those of you attempting to avoid spoilers, stop reading now. There's only one question left, but its answer below, is speculation on what is likely to be a major spoiler. If you're curious... keep reading. If you want to avoid speculation, close your eyes, hit the back button on your browser, or otherwise leave this post be.

Nevr asked....
Any ideas or info on what the world event is going to be that kicks off the expansion if there even is one? Any clues in the starter quests?
There are clues here and there (including recently uncovered sound files in the beta client), though the world event, obviously, hasn't been implemented yet. NPCs throughout the starting zones talk as though they've been driven to Northrend, forced from their homelands and into the fight with Arthas and the Scourge. It's clear that no one was having tea and suddenly decided, over their crumpets, to take the long trip to Northrend to assault Arthas on his home turf.I'd say the biggest hint I've run across is the flavor text spoken by Garrosh Hellscream in Warsong Hold in the Borean Tundra. You know, the text that comes up before you click on the quest options at the bottom? The stuff that you're just as likely to click past as to read? Sometimes it's worth reading! Hellscream says:
The razing of Orgrimmar was not just an attack against orcs, it was an affront to the Horde. An assault against our very existence!
The Lich King sought to sow the seeds of fear.
This....
<Garrosh points to the fortified walls that surround him.>
This is the result of Arthas's campaign.
The Horde fears nothing...
Standing next to Hellscream, High Overlord Saurfang continues that thought, in a less optimistic manner:
Fear has always been our greatest weapon. Entire wars have been won and lost upon the shifting shoulders of trepidation and doubt. So how, then, does one fight an enemy that knows no fear?
<Saurfang shakes his head.>
We do not just fight the Scourge in Northrend, we fight to gain control of our senses before they tear us apart...
Combine the bits of information we have, and it sounds like a massive Scourge invasion is coming to Azeroth, lead by Arthas himself. (And likely in conjunction with the disappearance of Naxxramas and the appearance of Ebon Hold over the Eastern Plaguelands.) Arthas will personally threaten leaders of both factions and major cities will be destroyed... or at least damaged. (Blizzard isn't likely to make major changes to existing content in a way that would prevent new players from accessing it -- so I very much doubt that Orgrimmar or any other cities will vanish completely -- but changes are coming.)

Have any hunters in the beta tried tanking a 5 man run with one of their tenacity pets yet?
I'm very curious to know how viable that is.
Phil Aug 25th 2008 11:24AM
Seconded, since I heard this was one of their goals (or at least the off-tank with a pet).
Ed Aug 25th 2008 11:26AM
Thirded, I would like to know this as well.
Atomic Aug 25th 2008 11:32AM
Shouldnt you ask about that in the "Big red kitty" post mate?
This post is about hemet, old strath, D.H.E.T.A, and world events. O.o

If you huntards would check out previous posts like the tanking or Uvuros (http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/08/10/bigredkitty-uvuros/) you would see that tanking, or at least off tanking, will be viable for the tenacity pets. Looks like with a decent healer and some appropriate lvl dps, an 80 hunter will be able to escort lower lvls. I'd guess its somewhere around the 5 lvl mark. That is a 70 hunter and his tenacity pet could take a group through something like Underbog or Crypts and not have a problem with the pet acting as a main tank.

Oh my bad, I thought the comments in this thread could be used to post questions to be answered in future 'Ask a beta' threads.

One question about paladin seals, do you find yourself using Seal of Blood or Seal of Corruption more often. Is Seal of Corruption going to be a viable dps seal or will it jsut be wasted like Seal of Vengeance. Thanks

@ Robert M...
Actually, Zayd's post asked if anyone HAS tried it, not if in previous posts had anyone pointed out it's theoretical possibility.
Take it easy and read carefully beforethrowing around the huntard label.

You are more than welcome to use these comments to ask any questions you'd like -- that's why they're here! I haven't answered hunter questions yet because I'm not a hunter, but I'm trying to pin someone down with answers hunter questions.

I have 2 questions...
1. Are there any plans for other wings of the caverns of time? they have always been my favorite, and I thought inthe nature of black morass, you could do the razing of Silvermoon. Imagine protecting Arthas as he detroys the city and kills that Sylvanas. A little dark, but a story that would be fun to play none the less.
2. Do we know any rewards for the achievements? I spent hours of my life grinding with Timbermaw Hold and would love a tabard as a reward for that achievement. More specifically, do some achievements unlock certain rewards or are the rewards all obtained through the spending of achievement points?
Atomic Aug 25th 2008 11:24AM
how do we send in questions for "Ask a beta tester"?
Also nice post, can't wait for the opening event :)
its going to be mega sweet, i missed out on the BC open event but now im actually going to be one of the lvl 70's in the video's on youtube, ready to mount the boat to notherend.
Will a boat from Kalmidor take you to one side of notherend. e.g Ogrimmar boat/Zeppelin to the west of notherend. And the boat from the new habour at SW to the east side of notherend, any confirmations on this please?

Its has been said that the Zepp in Orgrimmar (H) and the boat from Theramore (A) will take players to Borean Tundra. The Zepp from Undercity (H) and the boat from Stromwind(A) will take players to Howling Fjord.
Dinosoar Aug 25th 2008 4:20PM
In the beta the current ways to get to Northrend are:
Orgrimmar to Borean Tundra
Undercity to Howling Fjord
Stormwind to Borean Tundra
Menhitil Harbor to Howling Fjord

I heard tell that Nessingwary will become a faction and one of the NPCs in his camp will eventually convert to a flightmaster if you gain rep. Can't remember where I read this, or if an NPC told me when I ran up there.
Also, I have to ask, if someone tells you his minions are hungry and waiting, why the heck would you rush into them?
Kiukiu Aug 25th 2008 11:52AM
He dared them. Duh.
Matthew Rossi Aug 25th 2008 1:01PM
No need for rep, you have to complete quests to bring him parts and he builds a gnomish flying machine flightmaster.
oomoo Aug 25th 2008 11:23AM
is any of the shaman season 2 gear being changed stat wise???
atm with the changes to the way AP is worked out it seems as tho it'll be practically useless to its dedicated spec anymore. (except maybe the legs, that splash of int does make up for the loss of ap from strength with that new int to ap talent)
Harringson Aug 25th 2008 11:23AM
Hey,
Has anyone tried to do the end game BC raids in the beta yet? It'd be interesting to see something like Kil'Jaedan dead by 15 men or whatever. Maybe you might be able to solo or 2 man karazhan?
Fingal Aug 25th 2008 11:27AM
Can you start a DK on servers that you don't have a level 55? (I have level 70s that are on PvE servers and I think a DK would be a great way for me to get onto a PvP server)
The only posts i've seen on this seem to be able to be interpreted 2 ways.
