Arena points reset in Wrath for Season 5

New skirmish brackets will open up for those between Levels 71-75 and Levels 79-80. As mentioned before, Level 80 players will be able to participate in rated matches and be eligible for Level 80 Arena rewards that will, thankfully, look distinctively different from PvE gear. This means that players should be spending their Arena points now instead of banking the maximum 5000 points, as it will not carry over past Level 70. In this scheme of progression, Level 70 Arenas will conceivably die an eventual natural death.
What does this mean for the current season? When the pre-Wrath content patch is released, we're likely to see a shake-up in class representation in Arena play, as more classes become viable. It is also highly likely that the current season will end when Wrath is finally released, and competitive or rated Arena play will be in a state of limbo as Blizzard is likely to allow several weeks for players to reach Level 80 before starting a new Arena season.

Arena will head off into the background with Wrath.
They want everyone in Lake Wintergrasp playing with the vehicles.Blizzard didn't spend all that time developing a PVP zone to go back to little box fights.
While some people will still play arenas and prepare for tourneys. If it doesn't have the best PVP rewards in the game, most people wont bother.

Keep in mind blizzard also spent all that time developing 2 new arenas.

You'll need rating for everything from arena in wrath (just probably not the blue set). Blizzard isn't going to make the same mistake with S2 and 3 sets which didn't really have ratings.
So no, you'll be doing arena the exact same as you would do now, the pvp zone isn't going to replace arena whatso ever. The only difference is you could probably get the points ready for when you have the rating. Sadly arena is where you will get the high end pvp gear.

Arenas will still be alive and well. Lake wintergrasp will just allow arena players to control how fast they get their gear, instead of having to wait a week for points.
If you really need a peice of gear now, make sure your in lake wintergrasp everytime its up. If not, just wait for your arena team to give you points. Pretty simple.
Either way, i'm planning to be in lake wintergrasp ASAP. It just looks like so much fun.

What about honor points? We'll get an honor reset too or we can carry them to 80?
C Aug 26th 2008 8:43AM
Any idea if the same will occur with the honor points?
Szass Aug 26th 2008 8:48AM
Honor is available from level 11 on up, so honor shouldn't reset. What will happen is the honor cost for level 80 gear will be much higher than it is now for 70 gear.
Just compare the cost of level 60 honor gear with level 70 to get an idea why saving honor now isn't going to be hugely beneficial.

Maybe but don't forget the rewards from Lake Wintergrasp.

Do i get a refund for the arena teams i paid for? lol

If they are going to be wiping Arena points, they should get rid of rating requirements after Season 4 ends. This way everyone can spend their points on something they can use.
Wow, that was a short season. I only got one piece of Brutal gear, and the people up in 2k+ have just been finishing getting all theirs.

Agreed about dropping the ratings... or at least from S3. My old retired Arena character would kind of like to finish that set with the shoulders, if only for the graphical completion :)
Procris Aug 26th 2008 11:52AM
I honestly can't see them removing ratings from the old gear since the lvl 70 rated matchs will still exist. I think its a cool idea, 2 weeks or so before Wotlk release that they could remove the ratings to give people something to do but i just don't see it happening.
Jeanluc Aug 26th 2008 10:40AM
Should the points reset at 80? That way you can still buy some nice leveling gear.
Procris Aug 26th 2008 11:49AM
I think that would be a better solution. But then again, once you ding 71 you won't be able to do arena again until 80, so if your missing any points, they'll be useless anyway.
CCK Aug 26th 2008 10:41AM
Actually, if you remember, the lvl 60 gear was the exact same cost the lvl 70 gear is currently. They didn't raise the price of lvl 70 gear, they lowered the price of the lvl 60 gear.

Instead of awarding Arena points outside of Arenas, I wonder why they don't just simplify the whole system and just have honor points - earned through all types of PvP - as the currency for purchasing all PvP gear. With arena rating requirements limiting access to the best gear each season, it doesn't seem like there is a real point to keep both kinds of points.

Could you imagine the QQing if you could just afk in AV and get Season 4 and gear as good as BT stuff? people would freak out
GamerJunkie Aug 26th 2008 1:22PM
So what? S4 and BT gear are going to be junk in WOTLK, will last you a good 4-5 levels then the blues and even greens will become better.
At the pace people will level, almost all pre-WOTLK gear will get vendored except for unique items like twinkets, rings, capes.
