3.0.2 PTR imminent
We haven't seen much PTR action in a little while (although I guess the beta realms are really a PTR for Wrath). That may change soon, though: the European PTR forums were just wiped, and Tigole recently said "3.0 will be on the PTR's soon." Disregarding his apostrophe abuse, and Blizzard's colorful history with the word "soon," this does conspire with the forum wipe to indicate that the PTRs will probably be up with this pre-Wrath patch within, I'd say, a week or so.
What does this say about the Wrath release date? Well, I'd say nothing, really. In the same post, Tigole mentions that some patches were on the PTR for over two months (which is good because a lot of the new talents are really half-baked right now). Additionally, 3.0.2 could come any amount of time before LK. 2.0.1, the pre-Burning Crusade patch, came a bit over a month before BC was released.
There is one notable advantage to bringing 3.0.2 to the PTR as soon as possible: more testing. While a fair number of people are in the LK beta by now, everyone who wants to (and had an active account the last time the PTR authentication server was updated) can access the PTR. As I mentioned above (and as Tigole agreed in his post) none of the classes is done yet, and the more people we get play-testing them, the better.

Bring it on! This is fantastic news.

Does this mean we can play Wrath's content without a beta key?
yazah Aug 27th 2008 2:14PM
No. Not the "content" anyways (specifically northrend), but it will be for testing global changes like talents, etc, and also for testing the pre-WotLK Event that will go live shortly before WotLK ships.
But imagine if they opened up northrend on the PTR. The lag and wait times would be insane as millions of people tried to log into one server all at once.
Also, I wonder if inscription will be available pre-WotLK, since there are not any trainers outside of northrend. Or are there?
BigDaddyJay Aug 27th 2008 2:50PM
Blizz has said that there will be inscription trainers in all of the major cities, and that we'll be able to level up to 375. But the question is WHERE THE HELL ARE THE WARRIOR GLYPHS? I know we get Titan's Grip, but how about some inscription love?

i'm just glad that we're going to be able to get on, test and make addons compatible with the addon ahead of schedule.
aargh, the dreaded patch day! :-((

It means that we will be able to test some of the core gameplay changes that they are adding. Barber shops, max tiered talents, and much else. Just won't be able to go to Northrend.

I recently renewed my subscription for a month after several months off, then decided to lapse again and wait for Wrath. My main focuses at the moment (a 70 druid, a 33 mage, and a fresh paladin) all seem like they will be a little more fun once the new content hits (Northrend, Inscription, and spell revamp, respectively). Looks like I won't be away for very long this time...

Your initial foray into blogging has not been promising so far.
sephirah Aug 27th 2008 1:44PM
Only when you'll learn to write "I", "paste" and "I'll".
Jakeman Aug 27th 2008 1:54PM
Hey vlad,
If you can find all of this information elsewhere, why do you come here?
Nick S Aug 27th 2008 6:19PM
@Jakeman
I can't speak for Vlad, but I come for the comments.
Daymon Aug 27th 2008 1:13PM
i'd say take your time, still lots of things to tune. I don't want to see 3.00 next and 3 weeks later 3.01.. it has happened before..do it right this time.
Naix Aug 27th 2008 1:51PM
Don't you know that software is always in beta and never fully done?
Zuldim Aug 27th 2008 1:18PM
Goodbye live realms, hello silithids/devilsaurs.
Can't wait. =D
JPN Aug 27th 2008 1:21PM
I hope "LK" catches on as an expansion abbreviation as opposed to "WotLK". BC, LK, etc.
darian Aug 27th 2008 2:06PM
Back in my day we didn't have acronyms, we had wood block printing. If you made a typo, your monarchial overlords would cut off a segment of your finger.
You should be grateful you even get to type phrases as short as "Wrath of the Lich King". It used to be insane titles along the lines of "His Most Royal and Beneficent Majesty, Keeper of the Holy Relics, Scion of our most Sovereign Nation, Divinely Appointed Heir to the Twelve Disco Balls of Sir Marmotan the White Pants..."
dpoyesac Aug 27th 2008 2:07PM
Yeah, but it's fun to try and say "WotLK". Try it -- it's great!
I pronounce it "Wut-ulk". "Wut-ulk" is way more fun than saying "Bee-see".
ScorchHellfire Aug 27th 2008 4:24PM
i personally pronounce it like wot-lick because you know... thats how its spelled... wotlk...
Rihlsul Aug 27th 2008 1:24PM
You picked on his use of apostrophes, but yet posted a phrase like so:
"none of the classes is done yet"
Smooth.
