Breakfast Topic: Skippable quests
Shellyw has a good question on the forums: what quests do you always skip? Blizzard is pretty good about the rewards system -- even if a quest is a pain to get through, they'll usually make the reward worth it. But there are quite a few quests in the game that just don't have anything you want, and just aren't worth the time putting into them.Green Hills of Stranglethorn is mentioned early on in the thread, and I couldn't agree more -- any of those collecting quests I usually just give up on, as it's usually easier to just sell the pages off inside that zone to someone who is actually doing the quest. I often skip a lot of group quests as well, especially while leveling. While the rewards for those are usually very good (and they're often the end of long chains, which means both XP and items that come from them are great), it's often tough to find a group, so they usually sit in my quest log until grey and then get abandoned.
And occasionally, especially when I need space in my quest log for newer quests, I just plain skip anything that doesn't give an item that I need. If there's a choice of quest rewards, and none of them fit my class or spec, I'll just abandon the quest entirely to replace it with a quest that works better for me. What quests do you find skippable? How do you do triage on quests when your log fills up?

Am I also damaging the Mountain Lion blood when I kill the beast with a giant hammer?
darian Aug 29th 2008 11:23AM
You're not damaging it, you're just spraying it all over the place such that there isn't enough left to collect.

The one to get Raptor Hearts in Arathi. Apparently 99% of the raptors out there are heartless.

I skip all escort quests and anything with a lot of traveling time. With the faster 1-60 leveling you can skip of lot of the crap.
If you happen to be doing the Recruit a Friend bonus you can cherry pick only the best quests from each zone and move on without wasting much time at all. It's been so much more fun than old, crappy WoW.

I generally drop all the quests in a given zone whenever I leave that zone. I usually skip escort quests entirely (sometimes with malice, Ruul!) but otherwise just try to do as many quests at a time as I can. Quests that are all by themselves and nowhere near where I want to be often wind up not getting done.
Group quests I advertise once when I get them to the zone, I ask friends for help, and if I don't have help and can't solo it by then I just drop it.

I skip very few quests, even if the item I get is unusable. I just sell it. Money is money right? I do everything I can get get my character to the highest level before moving to the next zone. Makes leveling a bit easier and you die less. I currently have a 44 shaman who hasn't set foot in the 40-50 zones.

Lakota Windsong can stay at the top of that damn mountain.
I don't mind when you're collecting things and they don't drop, if you're after an Aged Gorilla Sinew or whatever, because they justify why most of them aren't good enough. But when you've got lions without blood, tigers without fur and bears without tongues, it just gets annoying.
I killed over 200 spiders for my moss ichor once. I still shudder at the thought, but somehow never skip that quest. I just like Hillsbrad too much.

I try whenever possible to skip anything involving swimming. It makes me dizzy.
Balius Aug 29th 2008 11:03AM
If you don't have a 70, you may not like it...Flying is just swimming on a mount.

When I started playing, I would try to complete every quest I came across. I thought thats what you were suppose to do, and I was enjoying the lore of the game (I remember I kept slow scrolling quest text on till like lvl 30 cause I wanted to read every quest. HA!). But now if I'm lvling I will just do enough quests in a zone to get on to the next zone. I normally ask in general chat if anyone wants to do group quests as soon as I get them, that way you might get lucky and get in on them as you do other quests.
Oh, but I still like to do the long quest chains, Stalvan, Missing Diplomat, and stuff like that.
Cowbane Aug 29th 2008 10:50AM
The Stalvan Quest line. At the level it's offered there is to much running around to make it worth it honestly.
xdrive Aug 29th 2008 11:17AM
Im doing every quest i can find, i dont skip anyone that im able to do, thats cheating! :)

Worst quest: Fiery Blaze Enchantments, the one where you have to get a single Black Dragon Heart from the Whelps in Badlands. The drop rate is an ABYSMAL .9%!! Almost any Azeroth quest where you need a single, on drop item is tedious beyond belief. At least in the Outlands ones they upped the rates so you didn't spend 1 hour killing mobs for a single quest.
Also - Mother's Milk, one of the worst instance quests ever. You have to get poisoned by the spider boss in LBRM and then LEAVE and get to the quest giver in a certain amount of time, then come back into the dungeon to finish it. Worthless, and all you get is a vanity pet.

On a PVP realm, I'll try to avoid every quest in STV and Hillsbrad. On a PVE realm, though, I love STV. Other than that, I skip many escorts and instance quests, unless they have great rewards ... and then I usually have high lvl toons help (especially an escort on a PVP realm).

I try not co skip quests, but as soon as 58 comes 'a' calling, I dump all Azeroth q's and straight for the lovely maelstrom of fel orcs that is Hellfire Peninsula
Iwanttobeasleep Aug 29th 2008 12:27PM
I use Lightheaded to look up the exp for a quest and compare it to the amount of work it'll take. Across the zone, low drop rate, hard mobs, and low exp? Buh bye!

The two I will never do again is the one for Wailing Caverns where you have to get into that cave on top of the instance. Dang, it took me forever to get into that after falling off the mountain to the bottom numerous times.
I also gave up on the one in Nagrand where you have to go on that trampoline and land in the bird nest. After an hour straight and a bruise from banging my head on the desk I had to walk away.
oldwisemonk Aug 29th 2008 12:46PM
LOATHE that trampoline quest. I've only done it once, and I did it using the jumping-off-of-your-mount method. So I can safely say I've never successfully jumped from the trampoline onto the tree.

Netherwing...they can keep their trinket!
I think Netherwing are an example of how NOT to do dailies. They're not dailies anywho...more like monthlies
As for zones...I skip Desolance, you have this path that is the loooong way around and only one horde flight path on the very far coast. I have also never quested in Burning Steppes or Searing Gorge. Azshara also has horrid geography to quest in.
Voridor Aug 30th 2008 1:24AM
I usually don't have a particular method of skiping quest. Usually if it is going to take to much time or seems like a pain (group quests) then I usually don't do it. Although most grouped quests I tend to hold on to and do once I have ding once or twice and I can solo. As I have a few chars that are good at solo I can usually do the grouped quest.
However there are quite a bit of zones I completely try and skip. For example, Feralas, Desolace, Burning Stepps, Searing Gorge, Azshara, Silithus, Bad Lands, Blasted Lands, and Eastern Plaguelands. I know how can I ever even lvl! Well in the other zones I do all the quests available. So I know I skip a lot of content. I just find those zones to be a little aggrivating. I've lvled 4 chars to 70 now. My first one of course did most of the zones and dropped a lot of quests. But by now I have a pretty good layout of what zones are faster for me and what quests are quicker for me.
