Death Knights receive unique voices
The fine folk over at DeathKnight.info have posted a video of the unique Death Knight voices we've all been promised. They don't have an entirely new set of voice emotes (at least not yet), they took a slightly different route. There's actually a sound filter over the voices, making them sound echoey and spooky. The females have been described as sounding like banshees, which is pretty accurate I think. If you're not a fan of the voice effects, you're allowed to turn them off in your Sound control panel so you won't have to hear it. Other people still will, unless they do the same.
I'm definitely a fan of this for most of the race/gender combos. Some of them are lackluster (in my opinion) such as the Female Dwarves. The best? Male Blood Elf by far. That laugh? Awesome. Just awesome. I'm sure we'll see a couple of tweaks to this before the end of the beta period, but they're definitely on the right track, I think.

These are pretty bad...
They should have brought back the original voice talent and had them record again or hired some new ones for each race.
The issue is that all they are doing is lowering the pitch on these. Any person and I mean ANYONE could do this with any sound program.
I expected better and more from Blizzard on this.
DK's voices should be ominous and dark...almost like Batman or some dark hero.

Actually, there's about a quarter second of reverse reverb in front of the sound, a chorus effect, and a low level trailing reverb of around 2 seconds. If the pitch is also changing, it's a very small interval. This can indeed be done by many people with some free or inexpensive software. On the other hand, it's how supernatural audio effects have been done in major motion pictures since the days of Poltergeist.

Oh untwist your panties, it's Beta FFS.

Female voices are much better than male voices... I was planning to create a male Human DK... but if it isn't changed, female it goes.

male blood elfs best? they might have nice lines but their voice just isnt the bomb.. all in all they are just a designer mistake.. blood elf females worked out prty good though, but no male blood elf mage ever looks cooler than an undead one
oh and that sylvanas pic is a bit how blood elves overall should have been treated
Grumaya Aug 30th 2008 2:52PM
Honestly? Anything that the guy that voiced Liquid Snake does is gonna be excellent.
I wonder how many people actually knew that the male blood elf voice was that guy..
Alveredus Aug 30th 2008 6:17PM
I think of the Liquid Snake guy as Leonardo from the classic Ninja Turtles primarily and the new He-Man second. I always forget about his video game roles.

How about the irony of the Blood Elf /charge? "Remember the Sunwell!" has a whole new meaning now I guess :P
Seriously though...I think the idea is cool, but they could've at least changed the voice actors (hell, they should do that ANYWAY imo) and done effects besides...making them sound like they're talking through the toilet paper roll.

I guess you could also say the same thing for trolls and their 'For Zul'jin' charge.
Aldheim Aug 30th 2008 2:57PM
You thought the female dwarf was lackluster? C'mon! "I don't like being underground... It reminds me of death" sounded super ominous just now.

I was hoping for new speech entirely - really menacing and dark stuff. I expect Death Knights to be evil, even if they swap sides and start fighting against the Lich King.

actually I had this same problem when the Belf's were introduced to the game. After seeing that amazing moment in the cinematic when the belf female drains the power from that mana wyrm and the wicked look on her face, I was so ready to take azeroth and outland by storm with one...however instead they sound like valley girls who are ready to hit the mall, instead of addicted mana starved forces of destruction :(

I wasn't suprised at all that just added litle darker voice to 'em (though undead male sounded litle higher pitched ^_- ) specially cause Blizzard has been more and more lazy after made so much money and specially after burning crusade, was very litle added since release compared to when released 'vanilla' WoW and using same animations over and over and sometimes same models also.
They are too busy counting they're money and nobody threating them with beeing #1 MMO game and dont seem to give a crap (since very close to destroying the lore(which is main reason i got so intrested in Warcraft 3 and WoW, only reason im sticking is cause hear wrath is improving some of that, more lore and just is fun 'n death knights:P

@2:09 "You know wisps are actually pretty useful for personal hygiene."
What slash-command is that? O_o

Female Night Elf /silly
Arturis Aug 30th 2008 11:45PM
Its one of the random /silly quotes from the Night Elf Female
Lagren Aug 30th 2008 5:15PM
I'm going for a Troll Male DK.
Oh yeah, did you notice? It seems that the Blood Elves have gotten new emotes due to the events at the Sunwell... "Quel'thalas shines once again" instead of "the sin'dorei will prevail."
Or maybe i'm just confused.

and the for zul jin is cool kinda like these arent the same horde trolls we play now
Shionia Aug 30th 2008 6:12PM
Disappointing, almost cheesy. Reverb alone isn't enough - perhaps slow the speech so that the timbre drops?
(Female Taurens: oh, if only they had sounded like the Tauren NPCs!)
Gloam Aug 30th 2008 6:39PM
The female trolls sound like Patti and Selma from The Simpsons. XD
