Paladin glyphs in Beta build 8885

Glyph of Blessing of Kings
Reduce the mana cost of your Blessing of Kings and Greater Blessing of Kings spells by 50%.
This seems to be either a changed Glyph or another one for the same spell, I'm not too sure. The other one, which I discussed in a previous post, also increases attack power by 3%. Not very useful for casters, sure, but certainly better than this one. This Glyph downright blows. Why? Because Blessing of Kings and specially Greater Blessing of Kings are preparatory spells! The mana cost reduction is irrelevant because Paladins cast this spell during downtime, the buffing up stage. Paladins will have the opportunity to drink before the encounter so mana saved from this spell is utterly worthless. In PvP, where Blessings are routinely dispelled, this Glyph is slightly more useful. However, it's probably best to save that Glyph slot -- even a minor one -- for something better.
Glyph of Sense Undead
Damage against Undead increased by 1% while your Sense Undead abilityAlthough it's an unimpressive looking Glyph, I'll have to confess I actually like it. Leveling up in Northrend, particularly, I had Sense Undead up virtually all the time because I'm not a gatherer. With the sheer number of Undead in Northrend, it only makes sense to keep Undead tracking up as often as possible. It's not a fantastic Glyph by any means, but it's not total garbage, either. A Minor Glyph at best.
Glyph of the Warhorse
Reduce the casting time of your Summon Charger and Summon Warhorse spells by 0.5 sec.
Finally something moderately useful. More of a PvP Glyph than anything, being able to mount up faster -- specially in the Battlegrounds -- is pretty handy. If it were a 1.5 sec reduction, it would be pretty awesome. But right now it gets a grade of 'not too bad'.
Glyph of Lay on Hands
Increases the mana restored by your Lay on Hands spell by 5%.
The best of this batch of Glyphs, the new and improved Lay on Hands will get even more improved with this Glyph. The Paladin's uh-oh spell is cast during the worst situations, and in those situations more mana is always good. It's not as great when cast on, say, Warrior or Death Knight tanks, but when cast on yourself or other Paladin tanks, it's gold.
Glyph of Blessing of Might / Blessing of Wisdom
Increases the duration of your Blessing of Might / Blessing of Wisdom spell by 20 min when cast on yourself.
Why? I mean, what's the point? When you're soloing, throwing up a Blessing every ten minutes isn't such a big deal. In raids or even 5-man instances, you'll be using the Greater version, anyway. This is a case of easing micromanagement where it isn't needed. Back in the days of five minute Blessings, these Glyphs might have been a godsend. Right now both Glyphs are a waste of a Glyph slot.
Well, there you have it. An underwhelming batch of Glyphs for Paladins this build. Looking at the Glyphs other classes got, I can't help but feel that these Glyphs were designed by someone who doesn't play the Paladin class. It's easy enough to invent Glyphs for spells by reducing mana costs or extending durations... but someone who actually plays the class would know if those improvements actually make sense. Right now, they don't.
It would've been nice to see additional effects to our spells like how Rogues get water walking when they Sprint with the Glyph of Blurred Speed. How cool is that? Paladins don't get anything creative or even highly useful. I'm disappointed but thankful that this is merely Beta, and I'm hopeful we'll see better -- even cooler -- Glyphs in a future build.

Some of these are pretty neat, as you said the LoH is definately the best.
I'm suprised and upset there isn't a glyph to reduce cast time for bubblehearthing pallies.

All of this stuff on glyphs and nothing on the monumental changes to Blessing of Sanctuary, Judgements of the Wise or Beacon of Light?
All three of which constitute a complete rethinking of every paladin's talent builds and play style in WotLK?
Zach Aug 30th 2008 12:27AM
Hold on to your charger, Trad! This is a Glyphs post. I'll write up a changes post later and burning the midnight oil.

These are, in a word, lame.
Also, take a look at what happened to Judgments of the Wise.
Retribution mana regen has been gutted and tossed to the vultures.
Malkeior Aug 30th 2008 12:50AM
Not even vultures would eat that...

I expect that the BoM and BoW glyphs will be minor glyphs. Remember that minor glyphs aren't supposed to be game-changing; they're supposed to do minor things like graphic changes, removing reagent costs, and maybe even lowering the mana cost of your buffs. I don't think you're going to be giving anything big up to use those.

To twh
IDK if that is a nerf or some attempt tp buff it for more man to multiple people who know it might be better then the old one, if it isnt MMO champs isnt always right.....right? Lets hope for the better of all ret pallies!
twh Aug 30th 2008 1:36AM
No, it's a nerf. Plain and simple. The players in beta have tested it. They hate it. As a result, I hate it too.
A ret paladin in a raid will go oom in less than two minutes if they want to DPS.
I've lost all hope for Ret paladins in the expansion.

It is quite a nerf, from the last time Judgments were working. I'm in all BC gear, and level 78 and a 8k mana pool, and I'm only getting 42 mana a second. When I'm finally in Wrath gear, rocking a 5-6k mana pool, it will only be 25-30 mana back each second, while the cost of my abilities stays the same.
Currently to not OOM every 4 fights, I have to judge wisdom, and only use CS, and SoC to do damage. If I throw in Divine Storm, Consecrate, HoJ, HoW, heal, or have to rebuff myself I just keep sinking lower and lower.
In an all out PvP scenario, I would be out after fighting 1 and a half fights I would say, assuming no buffs besides my own. In a fully buffed Raid scenario, there is no way we would make it through a boss fight as we know it.

I expect that the previously revealed glyphs were all major or medium, and now they're getting around to all the minor ones. Unimpressive... but something needs to take up those two spots. :|
Sl0th Aug 30th 2008 1:53AM
A glyph that lowers a buff cost? ...Not all that impressive.
A glyph that increases the length of a personal buff? Also, thoroughly unimpressive. I mean, if somehow I don't think I'm up to the arduous tank of rebuffing wisdom on myself every ten minutes, I can blow a symbol and cast greater on myself.
The charger one isn't bad... Not great, but not horrible. And the sense undead one... Well, my paladin is a miner and I keep up that tracking all the time, so that wouldn't get much use while soloing anyway. Groups in instances or what not, maybe.
The improved lay of hands isn't too bad. With the lowered cool down, I can see myself using it more often.
DM7000 Aug 30th 2008 2:31AM
So Paladin's don't get any cool purely aesthetic glyphs like mages and druids....I don't know what they could apply it too but I'd really love to see more fun glyphs.
Angus Aug 30th 2008 2:44AM
I swear the people creating the glyphs just read a bunch of stuff people suggested for improvements to the baseline abilities and justified their job by making sure the other devs wouldn't do them so they could with glyphs.
And then they failed to actually manage to do it right.
The BoK one is just so utterly devoid of any sort of intelligence that I can only sum it up one way...
" At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
bacon Aug 30th 2008 8:36PM
They're alright unless it's endgame glyphs. if you can make 'em while you're lower level they can be quite handy.
Jinsho Aug 30th 2008 4:02AM
Sweet mother of god, these glyphs are just fucking retarded. The only exception is the Charger one.
The LOH Glyph that restores mana to you is much better than this one, which is certainly not worth it over the Spelldmg and ATP BoM and BoK ones.
Scotis Aug 30th 2008 5:10AM
RELAX!
This is still BETA - as in *not done yet* - stop freaking out. Most likely these are either minor glyphs or low level ones you don't need to be level 80 for.
And as for the Ret mana nerf - if it is a big deal - then they will fix it. Most of the time the data for these builds are taken in the middle of them changing things - so they could already have solved this problem - just wasn't in this build.
Again - this is BETA people - if you have been following the changes at all so far you know that a lot of stuff has changed - and very quickly - so don't fret yet.
Braundo Aug 30th 2008 5:43AM
Lower mana cost on Kings, are you kidding me?
RetPallyJil Aug 30th 2008 6:25AM
Yeah, great stuff. Really.
Screw you, Blizzard. Screw you sideways.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
That is seriously the funniest thing I've ever heard concerning Blizz and Retribution.
But it's cool ... you just keep waiting for them to give us Kings back. The rest of us operate in the real world.
P. S. HAAAAAAAhahahahaha!
