Chilton: We want "to outdo ourselves in every respect"
Gametrailers hit up Tom Chilton for an interview at Leipzig and here's the video. His main point is that Wrath is bigger and better than before -- more, better, cooler content. Intercut with lots of cool video from the beta (though some of it was seen as far back as BlizzCon last year), he lays down what's up with the next expansion.
He says that Wrath is meant for high-end players, but that there's lots for lowbies as well: recruit-a-friend was actually designed as part of the Wrath feature set, and Blizzard thought it was better to release it earlier. Inscription is also seen as a "whole-game" feature, since you can pick it up right at level one, and Achievements will work for everyone as well.
He also talks about how the new gameplay features Blizzard is building in let them do all kinds of things with quests and instances -- he specifically mentions one encounter in the Oculus where you'll get to choose a ride with different abilities, so it'll be a different experience than your normal class play. There's some great footage of air combat in there as well, and even a little tidbit about the official threatmeter. Nice interview, and it sounds like Blizzard is rolling right along with their progress in the beta.

"to outdo ourselves in every respect"
In every respect?
Tordenflesk Sep 1st 2008 5:26PM
Something wrong with that?
Perderedeus Sep 1st 2008 4:13PM
In every aspect.
Jewbanks Sep 1st 2008 4:15PM
In every respect makes sense
Jewbanks Sep 1st 2008 4:18PM
well almost.. in respect to everything would have made more sense
Ahoni Sep 1st 2008 4:28PM
WTB grammar police, pst.
You know what he meant.
Eternalpayn Sep 1st 2008 7:52PM
"PST" is an acronym, and therefore should be capitalized. You asked for it. XD!

In every aspect/respect.....CoughExceptForClassBalanceCough!

In every respect is perfectly fine.
I just want to play Wrath, release it already :)

"In every respect" sounds a lot smoother than both "every aspect" and "in respect to everything", sorry.

I don't think the concern was the choice of words, I believe the problems stems from the fact that not all aspects of the game were truly enjoyable. Does this mean we will have "Even more grueling rep grinds!"? Or "More prolonged battlegrounds" or "Mindless trade chat banter... times two!"? Certainly that seems improbable, but those are all components of WoW's game play (in my experience), so they should offer to take to a greater extent every part of the game. Or at least this is how I interpreted vey_cos' comment, clearly they do not have that in mind, but apropos to certain less pleasant portions of game play, it becomes a frightening promise.

Making something better in respect to rep.. could very well mean shortening or adding more interesting quests that slowly open up.. They didnt say they were going to prolong every aspect of the game.

Well ... being myself in the EU Beta (screw our server^^) I got the feeling that they take the "better in every aspect" too far so far. I'm just doing the Howling Fjord and there are imo too many "gimmick quests" there so far. If it continues like that we'll soon get bored with it I'd say.

He could have said 'floop-da wonga diddums' because *shock horror* it doesn't matter! What does matter is he is saying everything they have done before will be done better in WotLK.
That means /2 Trade wont be any different as they haven't changed it, the new battlegrounds will be better the old ones wont change as they aren't new, Northrend rep gaining will be less of a grind the old ones will be the same as they are not from WotLK.

So he means that 80 wont be LOLarenas and raids?
I see that theres the lake but there rewards are probably gonna suck.
PVE is really better tho, with 10 mans and the new mechanics.

"...threat meter dumbs down the game..."
If that's their reasoning for making a half-assed threat meter, then why make one at all?
Calaana Sep 1st 2008 8:21PM
Because their not the only ones playing it, and they understand the basic concept of "just because we can manage without it, doesn't mean everyone can"?
Jamie Sep 2nd 2008 6:00AM
Simple, dumbed down threat meter does two jobs;
1. Allows new players to learn how threat works in a very straightforward manner.
2. Provides the raw data that the established threat mods need to run more accuratley.
