Wormholes coming to an Engineer near you

Engineers have Transporters, which work similar to a Mage's Teleport. They take you specifically to whichever Goblin or Gnome town your Engineering specialization likes best. Wormholes will be the answer to the Mage's Portal. You will be able to take your entire party to that town, not just you. The only one we've seen so far is a Wormhole to Gadgetzan, which may actually prove to be quite useful. While Shattrath has an NPC that will teleport you straight to the Caverns of Time, I haven't seen one of those in Dalaran so far in the Wrath Beta.
Currently it seems the intent is to have Engineers quest for these Wormhole generators, but they aren't available on either the live or beta realms quite yet. That could easily change before we see them ourselves. We may also see these in Patch 3.02 rather than Wrath of the Lich King as well, seeing as Northrend has Goblin towns of its own.

Now only if engineers could make vending machines we would not have use for mages anymore.
/lol
bumble Sep 2nd 2008 9:39AM
again Gadgetzan? they must really run out of ideas what to do with engineering...
Dave Sep 2nd 2008 10:06AM
they always go to Goblin cities if you haven't been paying attention.
Would you prefer Everlook?
bumble Sep 2nd 2008 10:43AM
No, I would have preferred a ~+*new*+~ idea. Maybe a transporter which zaps you instantly to any flightpoint in Northrend with a 4h cooldown. Or a evil-twin-projector which with a 4h cooldown has a twin of yourself for 5 minutes active in a maincity so you can take care of business (respecc, auction stuff, whatever) while your other self still sits on Icecrown Glacier.

@Naix.
Your knowledge of the game is obviously tip top. While anyone of any class can be as smart as you if they work at it, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you just might be a hunter.
unigolyn Sep 2nd 2008 10:28AM
Shush and sheep that mob, vending machine int buffer.
It's not the presumed hunter's fault mages were turned into a utility class in TBC.
Candina@WH Sep 2nd 2008 10:54AM
While I disagree, completely with the first poster...
Engineers do dispense Repair bots.
which sometime dispense... Scroll of Intellect...
So... yeah, Vending machine arcane intellect.
But (observation, not a QQ), between the Poultrizer (Chicken Polymorph), Repair Bot (see above) and now Teleport and Wormholes..
Engineering is replicating a great deal of a mages UTILITY.
But nothing replicates a mages DPS ;-)

I am no hunter. Your powers of deception are failing you.
It's not my fault that mages where turned from the super power DPS cannons into mild venting machines that can cast int buffs.

I can't see mages at the top of any of those tables, can you?

"But nothing replicates a mages DPS ;-)"
A steam tonk might come close.

Interesting.....

Nice, but with such a short range of travel locations and a truly dire four hour cooldown they don't really offer very much utility.
Jakeman Sep 2nd 2008 10:29AM
I don't really go to Gadget more than once every four hours. Not sure why the utility is an issue. I love my transporter and keep it in my bag at all times. It is so much easier to just pop over to Gadget and help summon.
Fletch Sep 2nd 2008 11:06AM
Getting to Tanaris isn't really an issue now that there is an instant teleport from Shattrath (providing you are revered with Keepers of Time). Utility is an issue because if something is of little practical use then what is the point of having it? You obviously feel differently but, to me, having the ability to teleport people to a single destination once every four hours (a destination that most people who have run the CoT instances a few times can easily get to themselves) isn't particularly amazing. I suppose it has some use for those that haven't reached revered with the Keepers of Time, but most people I know just use the instant teleport from Shattrath if they want to get to Tanaris.

You do realize that there will be other teleportation spots right? Right now there's a Gnomish spot in Blade's Edge and a Goblin spot in Netherstorm. I've used my teleporter quite a few times to get back to outland when my hearth was on cooldown. We already know there's a goblin town in Northrend and possibly a gnome one as well.
Besides, if wormholes give you a teleportation malfuntion, it will be more than worth it.

The gnome that will give schematic should be called Walter Horriman or something like that.

P3X-888 Called... they want their Unas back.
magicswordking Sep 2nd 2008 1:31PM
My macro for this is confirmed.
Everlook will be P1X-516
Area 52 will be M2X-680
I'm assuming there will be one for K3 the new Goblin town in Storm Peaks, so that'll be P3X-780
And I WILL make people taking the wormhole wait as I say "CHEVRON ONE ENCODED" etc.
dotorion Sep 2nd 2008 10:06AM
Keep in mind it's engineering.
"SHOULD get you and your party to Gadgetzan"
In other words, you might also end up in QD with the thing on CD and four pissed party members.
Also, there's something not right about some guy saying "we could go through my hole" against four other guys.
Flavio Sep 2nd 2008 10:13AM
"Should" is the best part ever, I'm wondering if they can port each person that click to a totally different area, or change their race, looks, funny stats :D
/2 Cooldown Ready!! PST for Wormhole Teleport!! yay :D
