Ask a Beta Tester: Enchanting, legacy content, and a beta medley

Is there a "magic number" for Enchanting, in that you can disenchant everythng in the game (currently 275 for pre-WotLK content)?
My 375 Enchanter was able to start disenchanting blues as soon as I hit Northrend shores, so I can't say for sure what the minimum level is. However, we can take some guesses based on what we saw in The Burning Crusade. As a few readers said, to disenchant epics it actually requires 300 Enchanting. 300 was the profession cap in WoW Classic. Assuming that trend continues, you will need 375 Enchanting to disenchant everything in Wrath. In the expansion after Wrath, it will probably take 450. Getting to 375 is a pretty safe bet.
Red asked...
How is spell damage affecting a Paladin's Ret Aura? Is it reduced like a standard DoT tick or even further? What are the numbers looking like with tested spell damage?
It definitely does not have a high coefficient, it would be pretty wild if it did. Rank 6 Retribution Aura reflects 61 Holy damage. With 0 points in Improved Retribution Aura and running around with 581 Spell Power thanks to Sheath of Light, Retribution Aura 'ticks' for 105 Holy damage. My probably-faulty off-the-top-of-my-head math says it takes just shy of 13 Spell Power to add 1 Holy Damage to Retribution Aura. Someone with a better head for calculation and numbers, please feel free to math this out.
Holy Paladins will probably have a lot of fun with it and every little bit helps Protection Paladins, but don't expect Retribution Aura alone to cause a Rogue to spontaneously combust when he stabs you.
BigDaddyJay asked...
Where are the Warrior glyphs?
Where are most of the glyphs? There are only a handful for each class so far, and there are 0 Minor glyphs implemented. We've been getting a ton in every beta patch though, so I imagine the Warrior ones, at least some of them, are on the horizon.
zoombini asked...
Has anyone tried to go back to level 70 heroics at 80? How possible would it be to solo/duo them?
This 3-man Karazhan should give you an idea of how possible it will be.
Elrof asked...
Are we going to be able to buy blank inscription parchment and, if we are enchanters, put spells on it to sell on the AH? Or do we need to be inscriptionists and enchanters in order to sell enchantments?
Enchanters can buy parchment (vellum) from Scribes, no need to have both professions. Word on the street says the super high-end Enchants won't be able to be placed on the auction house, but those aren't implemented yet so we can't say for sure. Most enchantments can definitely go on the AH, as long as you get parchment from someone else.
Meethan asked...
Does the 51 point Resto talent for Shamans still suck as much as my first impression of it?
Well, that depends on your definition of "suck." Spirit Link is good, but it's situational. It helps distribute heavy damage a bit, which is a good thing when one of your most awesome heals is Chain Heal. You can use it to stop a gib, and follow up with Chain Heal to heal everyone involved simultaneously. In some situations, that's much, much better than one person taking the full brunt of the damage. Do you dislike situational 51 point talents? Then it might suck to you. It most certainly has applications though, and has good synergy with other Shaman strengths and helps overcome a small weakness.
Erikamel asked...
Will my Death Knight have any bags beyond his backpack?
Yes, all Death Knights start with four 12 slot bags in addition to their backpack.
rahiensorei asked...
With all of the achievements and titles for completing X quests, is there a way to see how many quests you've completed?
In Wrath of the Lich King, yes. If you're looking to get the quests done beforehand, no. An example of what the panel looks like is just below.
And that concludes today's edition of Ask a Beta Tester. Keep the questions coming ladies and gents, and we'll keep trying to fit in as many as possible every day. Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you tomorrow!

If you're not too particularly attatched to your realm, I would recommend transferring now since New Players usually wind up where they're not needed.

Hey there, I was just wondering about the achievements...now if you downed per-say Illidan and Kael pre-WOTLK do you still get the achievement or do you have to go back and down them again?

With the new "Potion sickness" debuff, is there any reason to remain a potion speced alchemist?
Any signs of love for us, or would I be better off respecing to xmute or elixers?
Suzaku Sep 3rd 2008 11:44PM
I guess that depends on when you use potions. If you only have it for chugging potions on long boss fights... probably not. However, under most normal circumstances, I imagine the potion sickness won't be noticeable, because most fights are over within the time limit.

How are The Taunka shaping up?
Blurr Sep 3rd 2008 4:20PM
Does the Deathknight get any type of tracking/sense? Anything like Sense Undead, Track Demons, or (hopefully) Find Awesome Pick Up Group?

What are the naked base stats of each of the different classes at 80? That is, the base stats without any talents selected, gear being worn, or forms shifted into. They'd be slightly different depending on your race, so please post the race too.
Mldy Sep 3rd 2008 4:51PM
I cant find any love for the druids, anything yet?
Other than the talents of course?
Andelorn Sep 3rd 2008 9:30PM
What love do you mean then?
Suzaku Sep 3rd 2008 11:44PM
I understand that a new faction, the Cenarion Escort Service, is being implemented in an upcoming patch to address this very problem.
Jivundus Sep 3rd 2008 7:04PM
I've noticed a new wording for stats on WoLK gear, "Increases your armor penetration rating by x". How does this relate to the current wording on gear "Your attacks ignore y of your opponent's armor"?
exordius Sep 4th 2008 5:07AM
Will devotion aura be scaling? With all the improvements to armor penetration mechanics both in pvp and pve, will devotion aura scale with spell power like ret aura does? Will paladins at last be given a rapid closing mechanic, druids have one, warriors have 2 live and 3 in beta, I dn't know about death knights but will paladins be given a way to close quickly at last? Maybe change the movement speed bonus of pursuit of justice to a talentable charge effect, which would give retadins a form of intercept?
Ærynn Lómëhtar Sep 3rd 2008 7:58PM
I have one burning question based on the assumption that all deathknights, regardless of race, start out in the same place: are you all able to communicate with each other, or are all "Alliance" deathknights still restricted to Common and all "Horde" deathknights still restricted to Orcish?
Andelorn Sep 3rd 2008 9:28PM
You'd think that one would read through the replies to see if their question was already answered if the question was so important to them.
When you start as a DK the sides are instanced: there's an Alliance version and a Horde version, with no interaction between the two. You only see each other once you've finished the quests. And then no, you can't talk to each other.
Suzaku Sep 3rd 2008 11:44PM
Not only has this question been answered at least once in previous Ask a Beta Tester features, it's been answered in the comments section of just about EVERY Ask a Beta Tester feature.
Ebon Hold starts out with seperate phases for Alliance and Horde, so they don't even see each other. After all of the phases are completed and you return to the shared, live Ebon Hold, it's a sanctuary, just like Shattrath.
Also, Anderlon, it's not "instanced". It's "phased", which is a new technique they're using for progressive content, similar to the phasing goggles or ghosts in Outland.
Eltanos Sep 3rd 2008 8:18PM
I would like to know if they will allow Engineer Specialization respecs like with other profession, because if u want to change engineering specializations you have to drop it and start all over again.
Tyler Sep 3rd 2008 9:02PM
I was wondering if (and if so how much xp) you can have a pre-wrath character that has like 25 unfinished quests and turns them in before leveling in northrend?
I was just thinking if for those people who are going for those achievements this would be a good boost. Though it might not even be worth it.
Andelorn Sep 3rd 2008 9:28PM
It's been said by people in the Beta that the current 70 quests (including the Sunwell ones) give horrible experience compared to Northrend starter quests. Something like 7-9k exp vs 20k.
Mortugal Sep 8th 2008 3:06PM
A guildy just asked in our WoTLK forum on the guild website if they were coming out with any new profession recipes for Aldor/Scryer rep even though they are not a focal point of WotLK?
