Breakfast Topic: I like gold
If you're the type of player that always wants to be prepared, this pre-Wrath/3.0 period is a pretty good time to get started on that. The big thing most of these types are concerned with is gold. It's more or less been proven to be true that even if you're completely broke going into Wrath, you'll be just fine in the end regardless. Still, gold is on a lot of people's minds looking towards the future.Everyone has a different opinion of how much gold is 'enough' gold. I tend to hang out with players that are pretty big on min-maxing, the people that are always prepared, so my sense of what's 'enough' is a bit inflated. I'm sitting on roughly 10,000 gold right now, and I only recently started feeling like it was 'enough.' I'll be hemorrhaging gold at level 80 leveling professions and getting my gear up to par, so I'm sure most of that will be gone in no time. I could also get the gold very, very easily once I've hit level 80, and not have any issues. I just had that urge to be extra prepared that wasn't sated until I hit 5 digits. It actually wasn't too hard to get. I just farmed herbs here and there, and it just sort of accumulated.
How much gold do you think is enough gold, especially when we're heading into an expansion? Are you content to sit down in the single digits, and go out and run a daily quest if you need to repair your armor? Do you gather up as much gold as possible and sit on it?

We're hardcore in Sunwell right now, so not much chance to do any serious accumulation. These days it's easy with dailies and if I run low, I make sure to do them for a week or so and I'm usually good.
But besides professions the big money sink appears to be the Band of the Kirin Tor (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=40586), for faction discount of 7600. It will act as a 2nd hearth with no CD, for those that want it. Other than leveling professions, that's the only big sink I see currently.
If your goal is to make money, you might want to buy up mats. If TBC is any guide, anything that is used to level a profession will roughly double in price once we all abandon Outlands for Northrend and no one's farming this stuff anymore. So sit on those herbs for the Inscription masses with their 50k bankrolls to throw at it.

Mr. Dulaney beat me to it. Share the wealth, guys. I'd love to sit and grind primals or mine or farm disenchantables, but there's two things holding me back:
1) I'm a Dad of two (4 and 10mos), so I don't have much time to play, and when I do, it's late at night and I'm already tired.
and
2) I'm lazy. When I do play, I'd prefer to have fun, not just sit there hitting refresh on the auction house window.
Any tips or tricks you could recommend would be most appreciated.

From my perspective playing the AH is the easiest way to make gold, provided you learn how to use auctioneer properly. The rub is that your mileage will vary depending on your specific server economy and ,to a lesser degree, how long you are willing to camp the AH.
Now if all that sound to be not very fun based on your situation, I think your best bet would be a combination of quick dailies (5 to 10 each day), and heroic badges in exchange of nether/vortex/gem. It also wouldn't hurt to use your gathering professions to pick up free money when you are flying to places. The prices of herbs on my server is just insane...
In the end, though, the best tip I can give you is to be persistent and limit your spending. Nothing kills your bankroll like reckless spending on something you don't truly need.

epic pic for the post...love it

I found that the level I was earning gold was a bit extreme after the abundance of dailies and the increase in certain farmable items hit my server. So I started tracking my total gold and see if the gold was a once off big win or systematic of my servers economy.
I admit I dont farm as hard as I used to last month, like I did 4 months ago. But as you can see.

Um...(/shy) 28? Not 28k, just 28. Hey, I just bought some really cool gear, some enchants and a bank tab for my guild. Plus, it's not like I'm epic or anything...yet...give a lvl 28-er a break! :-)

I am at 44k right now.
My gold making secret is never buying anything made from the AH unless a guildie or I can't make it. Multiple alts with max level professions make that possible. I farm mats for everything. Sometimes I will get excess so I sell that. Also my guild stopped raiding Sunwell/BT a few weeks ago, so I made a few thousand gold selling my raid mats. (I liked being prepared.)
Farm what you are best at and trade for what you need if it gets frustrating. I hate farming fire but with my engineer I can farm primal mana and air, which in turn I can trade with people for fire or transmute into fire.
Dailies are ok. I usually just get to exalted with the faction and stop doing them.
My goal is 55k. With prices dropping like rocks it is gonna be a little difficult to get to my goal. TBH I am spending my gold a little willy nilly right now, with my latest major purchase being Sunmotes for a Loop of Forged Power. I also have one last alt coming up and they are gonna need an epic flyer.
My reason for wanting so much gold is that I want to be able to get the Dalaran ring with no problem. I also want to go for server first in cooking, First Aid, Enchanting, and Alchemy so I will probably need some gold to get that goal.

Wow.
It's amazing how depressing one article can be.

25 K here, purely from 15mins of AH before logging into my main.
Using Auctioneer, scan all epics.
Then scan all recipes on 'uncommon'
Buy low sell high. Watch out for Auctioneer fakers...ie listing something for 10k for 10 days to give auctioneer bad stats.
My best find lately was the sunwell BS recipe for Khorium battle plate chestpeice. bought for 4000 sold for 9000

Here's a quick tip:
CASH IN ON ACHIEVEMENTS IN WRATH
You can buy tradeskill recipes from all over the world, and resell them in the auction house for a huge profit when the profession achievements are available in Wrath.
From the official World of Warcraft web site:
"World of Warcraft's achievements system will launch with more than 500 individual achievements covering every aspect of gameplay"
"Professions: Advancing to each tier of mastery in a profession earns you an achievement, and there are specific achievements for secondary skills (with major professions to follow). "

maybe 300 total across all my characters. I just can't do the dailies. It bores me to death.
Zamboni Sep 3rd 2008 3:01PM
Sitting on 50K cash, plus an ever-growing mountain of ores and herbs. Most of my income goes towards piling up materials for the expansion. I've stopped running dailies, but continue to stripmine the AH for underpriced raw materials. I usually have around 800 auctions up at any given time.
Having multiple characters with maxed professions means I almost never need to buy anything from the AH. My biggest expense are tips to enchanters, and that will likely end once my enchanter can mail enchants to my alts.

What can I say? I like being able to give a friend 1500g to buy Corrupted Ashbringer when it drops.
Oh how I love to hear that sound! The beautiful sound of clinking nickels ...

There are a fair amount of gold sinks in Wotlk, I have estimated about 35-45k gold. I'm currently around 30k so I think I'll be ok come Wotlk. Theres a small article here about some of the new gold sinks:
