Barrens Chat: Evolution revolution
I mentioned in an earlier strip that I greatly dislike the Recruit-a-Friend program in an earlier comic. Mainly because the last two people we could have possibly talked into playing World of Warcraft started playing long before the benefit was offered. Needless to say, we're helping them out the old fashioned way, which occasionally includes hopping on an alt and running around with them.
After the jump, I actually have more to babble about today.
The most recent example of this is when one of my friends asked me to come help her kill the rare basilisk in Thousand Needles, good ol' Ironeye. She found out the hard way she was still a few levels short of handling him alone, and I had left my work-in-progress Mage down in the area. I had forgotten how beautiful the Shimmering Flats are.
Needless to say, I saw opportunity where others see sand. I seem to be having a thing with tying strange movies to game references. However, with everything else Blizzard has done, can't you see them doing something like this?
Either way, I have my tablet working properly again. It's amazing that for some reason, every once in a while, hitting electronics in frustration actually makes it work. Who knows how much longer it will survive, but for now I was able to give the girl down the hall back her coloring utensils (which were not crayons, by the way, but good try). I did decide to go ahead and do this one by hand. The only problem I ran into was trying to figure out how to get the background in there. I haven't done it this way in so long, I'd forgotten all my tricks.
I don't know if I'll keep doing comics this way or not, it seems to take about the same amount of time, less frustration, but more erasers. We will see.
See you next week!
Barrens Chat is a weekly comic strip doesn't always stick to the Barrens area. From Outland's emo oozes, to the great halls of Stormwind, this comic gets around. The writer is trying to get away from the focus on Horde and Hunters, so check back every week to see if the new Alliance cast member has shown up yet!

Maybe I'm dense...but I don't get it and I don't find it all that funny....which is ashame because you were getting so much better!
On a possitive note, your artwork was great!

I don't get it either... is that supposed to be Hillary Clinton?

I don't get it.
Is that Hillary Clinton? What's with the gnome?
Seriously, whah?

I won't lie, I don't get the comic.
But for some reason I like it. The art has taken a noteworthy step up, as well. And, maybe it was intentional, but all three frames are oddly... disturbing. This is not neccesarily a bad thing.

I'm with you guys in the "I dont get it" department. Is it a movie reference or something?

If you haven't seen the trailer for the movie Death Race, you won't get this.
Anyway, this got a chuckle out of me. Good job and the art style is very nice. The comic has definitely improved.

You might benefit from a graphic design course down at the local JC. This comic has "I design using Word/MS Paint" written all over it. Also, I would spend some time cleaning up the edges of your scans so that they are not so distracting; they spoil the setting (not to mention give the entire strip a rushed feeling). Actually, based on your very decent level of illustration skill, I would try doing the entire strip by hand, rather than combining WoW screenshots with your artwork.

I chuckled. I didn't guffaw or laugh really.
That being said, this is the best comic you've done so far IMO. Art style much improved, the timing on the joke was much better, however I would try to stray away from [setup panel, setup panel, quote from movie with WoW style rendition] It's not very funny in itself, but you managed to pull it off on this one.

Shouldn't comics be more universally "gotten" by readers? Inside obscure jokes are not only bad judgment but bad humor.

This is funny in a "it shows how much of an amateur you are because no one knows what the hell you're talking about" sort of way. The non-ass kissing comments made my day.

ITs a parody (a very bad one) of the movie Death race T_T watch and and you will fully understand. I dont really care for these. most (all) are horrible

OK, this is how I think it works:
Everyone clicks on this "comic" each week to see how much worse this thing can get. This generates hits for LoLInsider, and generates advertising revenue.
I do think that there is an ethical issue on how LOLInsider exploits this poor Megan Harris like this, because he/she's clearly schizophrenic AND drunk.
