As far as your example of leveling 4 warriors, you are clearly an edge case on the bell curve. Does that mean Blizz should change their mechanics because you have gone through this process so many times you have become insulated to the (relatively small) satisfaction it gives players? In my opinion, they should not. I like getting a skillup here and there. I like the fact that to be a good warrior you have to keep lots of weapons skilled up. It adds to the 'master of weapons' feel of the class.
As far as 'dumbing down the game', I don't think this has anything to do with that. It's about removing another way of advancing your character that you got bored with a long time ago but someone else may get a little joy out of.
The better solution here is to have Blizz figure out a way to make weapon skillups more intrinsically entertaining instead of removing them completely.
