Frostmourne replica in action
After waiting three months, Cerenvy of EU Darkspear finally recieved his replica Frostmourne in the mail. He got together with a couple guildmates, and rocked out with "duelling Frostmournes." Pictures included, of course.
According to Cerenvy, the replicas are much heavier than you might imagine. They had to flex a bit to hold the treasured swords aloft. Angrist and Nymeria of EU Darkspear also appear in the pictures with their own replicas, and the chaps spent a little while whirling the legendary weapons around. I hadn't been really interested in the swords. Now that I can get a better look at them, thought, I might find out about getting one to hang on my own wall. While the price seem a little steep, it definitely looks like they had a good time.

Nerds in action is more like it.

This level of nerdiness makes me feel uncomfortable. :/
Kadathwack Sep 5th 2008 5:18PM
The swords are pretty neat. And the sheer thought of duel-wielding Frostmournes...
The trouble though, is there just aren't enough soft, fleshy things you can legally hit with a sword nowadays.

i have never been so embarrassed to be associated with a game in my life.
Jason Sep 5th 2008 6:00PM
Aye, isn't that the truth.
At least those tools up there have crawled out of mom's basement. That's something.

I am 32, I have a good career, a loving a beautiful wife, my car is payed off, I own my own home....and I have been playing WoW for 3 years, having raided every instance from MC to SWP.
These pictures seriously make me consider quitting WoW permanently.
SaintStryfe Sep 5th 2008 8:04PM
Go ahead and quit then. Jees. Someone is enjoying something and you have the supreme need to spit on it? Gah. Jerks.
Lots worse things in this cold, hard world then someone getting a little pleasure out of a fun item.

I love WoW and associated geekery, but LARPing strikes me as dorky beyond belief. If someone was doing this in front of me in real life, I would be cringing. And I'm really dorky.
Blackhorn Sep 5th 2008 5:47PM
Do you even know what LARPing is? These are just pictures of some guys showing off their new SWORDS.
These aren't guys in aluminum foil costumes with cardboard shields speaking in Ye Olde English.
"LOL I"m larping as a 22 year old underachiever. It took me forEVER to handmake this authentic-looking 21st century t-shirt and shorts."

I take back what I said about the Frostmourne replica. You know, those are actually pretty nice. They are unexpectedly large. I was really picturing a scaled down version. Though from my Kendo practice last night I can tell you that if you keep raising your elbow like that you might end up popping your shoulder out of joint. How do I know...? No reason, none at all.
Man, where did I leave that ice pack?
George McBain Sep 5th 2008 5:27PM
Hey everybody! Maybe they are just having fun while taking some pictures ... crazy concept, huh? I see NOTHING that implies LARPing in the photos, just some posing. Like you never posed doing something "dorky" in your life. *sheesh*
Lrdx Sep 5th 2008 5:34PM
Frostmourne is a 2h sword, isn't it? So we can see a Fury warrior in the picture..

ARE THERE ANY GIRLS THERE? ROLL THE DICE TO SEE IF I'M GETTING DRUNK?

This is not the best ad for that J!NX Alliance t-shirt, printed as poorly off-center as it is. Unless that particular dork doesn't know the Picard maneuver.
Geeks > dorks, obviously.
blkmasta55555 Sep 5th 2008 5:52PM
Yay for EU Darkspear being in the news, and the swords are pretty cool, if a little expensive for my taste (although for replica swords i imagine they're fairly competitively priced).
stevens.ce Sep 5th 2008 5:57PM
Well, the swords are "nice", assuming you're cool with paying a bunch of money to put something on a shelf and never do anything with them. But seriously, if these guys are playing WoW on a regular basis, you'd think they'd at least have seen enough swordplay in game to know how to hold a sword. I'm pretty sure I could have pulled a couple of ten year olds off the street and they could have looked more comfortable and in command with those blades.
I know we're all geeks for playing this game so much, but these guys are definitely, definitely more geeky than I.
zappo Sep 5th 2008 6:18PM
Judging from the posts above I think it might have a lot to do with the fact that these things are pretty heavy. And these guys aren't exactly weight lifters.
Rather have a decent katana replica myself.
