Frostmourne replica in action
After waiting three months, Cerenvy of EU Darkspear finally recieved his replica Frostmourne in the mail. He got together with a couple guildmates, and rocked out with "duelling Frostmournes." Pictures included, of course.
According to Cerenvy, the replicas are much heavier than you might imagine. They had to flex a bit to hold the treasured swords aloft. Angrist and Nymeria of EU Darkspear also appear in the pictures with their own replicas, and the chaps spent a little while whirling the legendary weapons around. I hadn't been really interested in the swords. Now that I can get a better look at them, thought, I might find out about getting one to hang on my own wall. While the price seem a little steep, it definitely looks like they had a good time.

There are nerds, there are uber nerds...then there are these guys. Yikes.
Charlie Sep 5th 2008 6:08PM
People pay thousands of dollars for art that just sits there. Same with collectables.
This is no different.
Now if you don't see a point in having art, then i can accept your reason, but thats personal.
Some people like art, some people like swords is my point... i guess
Chase Sep 5th 2008 6:14PM
awesomely designed sword being used by the nerdiest guys...I'm not even sure why this was an article...
Berius Sep 5th 2008 6:32PM
Now I've seen it all...geeky WoW players calling other people 'geeky' cause they play with swords. So playing hours upon hours in front of a computer screen is more credible?? Hey, at least they were OUTSIDE when they did this, not in someones basement making stupid comments about other peoples' interests.
Zakk Sep 5th 2008 7:43PM
Hmm, those actually look really nice. I wasn't interested in them at all when the contest active (not that I could've won one anyway =P), but the design of the sword is really growing on me.
Kind of surprised those guys would release those pictures to the interwbez, though =\
Pucelle Sep 5th 2008 8:37PM
You know, if they want to spend their money on this, then it's just possible it's their money, they earned it, and they have the right to buy whatever the hell they want with it.
If you don't have a hobby or some interests outside work, booze, and hookers, you're far sadder than these guys.
uncaringbear Sep 5th 2008 9:45PM
Not surprising to see so many douche bag comments. Unless you're a jet fighter test pilot, and have never touched WoW in your lifetime, you're in no position whatsoever to be accusing these guys of being no-life dorks, nerds or whatever. The hypocrisy is EPIC.

I consider it an honour to have raided, tried (albeit comically unsuccesfully) to farm Orbs of Deception and done all outland 5 man heroics with these guys, i can safely say that i would not be playing warcraft now if it weren't for them. I really don't appreciate the negative comments in this section, i daresay they're from trolls with more spare time than sense.
And now to begin my refutations, yes, look it up trolls.
@#8: Thatguy. We're an average small guild, having fun trying to down more bosses in Zul'Aman. If you really wish to look down on us for getting into warcraft lore, perhaps you should consider the amount of time you've committed to this game. I can only imagine that your countless hours of wiping on brutallus can be easily compared to purchasing a replica weapon in the eyes of an independent witness. Also, i don't believe that "payed" is a word anyone past their teens would use, which seriously calls your authenticity into question.
@#19: I can safely say that the three guys in this pictures play warlock, healadin and shadow priest so they may not necessarily see swords being wielded in the same capacity that a warrior-player might.
Jeff Sep 6th 2008 12:49AM
@28
you guys are all fucking douchebags. LARPers are the biggest blight on the world of geeks today because they give us all a bad fucking name. people see that, know that i play WoW, & then come ask me if i do that shit. fuck you guys, i hate you.
and don't fucking try to say that's not LARPing. they're clearly doing some sort of fuckface knighting ceremony in one pic. in a few others they're standing there like they think they're stormwind guards or something. fucking fuckheads. STOP IT. STOP DRAGGING US ALL DOWN INTO YOUR GUTTER.
prenden2 Sep 6th 2008 12:44AM
@#21. How would one define a "nerd"? Speaking from experience these guys all have real lives, not lives based solely around WoW. I ask you to elaborate on your point that these guys are nerdier than others. For example, are RP realms "nerdier" than regular realms? Are people with an interest in warcraft lore "nerdier" than those who just go along with questhelper and move towards the little green marks on the map? In an off topic remark, remember that to non-WoW players, 99% of our endeavours seem trivial. Perhaps "nerdiness" is proportional to the insecurity of the accuser.

@28. Excellent use of the comma sir, though the rest of your post makes my eyes bleed. I was brought up to believe that profanity used in an argument was a sign of low intellect and certainly your comment does nothing to dispel that myth.
prenden2 Sep 6th 2008 1:03AM
In post number 31, i meant to refer to comment 29, which was a reply to my comment number 28. As i'm having to post yet another comment, i might as well post the hypocrisy of Jeff. If you're so embarassed by the fact that you play WoW, surely you'd stop.
Ruin775 Sep 6th 2008 2:59AM
Wow, it's amazing how many people say they're nerds and shit for taking pictures in different poses with a sword, they are clearly not fucking LARPing, I've not seen many knights with t-shirts and jeans listening to their i-pods. and even if they were who the fuck cares.
Skurgge Sep 6th 2008 4:56AM
Hahaha, way to go fellow Dramaspearists.
Dightkuz Sep 6th 2008 6:23AM
I chuckled more at the comments than the gallery
Lawgiver Sep 6th 2008 6:57AM
GG on the Alliance shirt. More stereotyping fodder for Horde to jump on.
Miyari Sep 6th 2008 8:22AM
Ok, so I couldn't resist:

Wow! It's nice to see these swords really are quite big...as someone stated already, I wasn't sure if they would be miniature or what. We will have to get one and post it on the wall for all time! Hehe.
Anywho, as for all the harsh comments...
Honestly, who cares? You? These people are having fun...and LARPing? I've known a few myself (never tried, and never will) and this is NOT "LARPing". Sheesh people, its just a bunch of excited people who got a nice replica sword and wanted to show it off so people could see it. Posing for the camera with a sword doesn't make you a LARPer. Why are some people getting so damn butt hurt about it? Gonna quit the game because some guys are showing off the swords and being happy about it? Please. What the heck is wrong with you all? Have you gotten so mature that anything fun is just blasphemy? I would hope you play this horribly addicting game for fun-away from the outside world spending hours and hours grinding rep/honor/etc and crawling raid dungeons to the wee hours of the morning. Can't forget mindlessly killing lowbies and causing a ruckus via Pvp as well! And you come off trying to sound all high and mighty because this looks "nerdy" to you? In most circles, the fact most of us stay indoors to play the game would be registered even nerdier, I would guess. And as some stated already, at least they are outside. :P WoW = SRS BSNS!!
Anyway, congrats on the swords guys who I don't know! Swing 'em around to your heart's content!
Though I am interested in knowing...what the heck is that little black thing on the tip of the blade? I don't recall seeing that on the real sword...or perhaps it is just the lighting?
Ñymeria Sep 6th 2008 1:47PM
Cheers for your post dude, the little black thing is a piece of plastic to cover the point and stop you hurting yourself or anyone else.
Evi Sep 6th 2008 1:18PM
My goodness, you people are judgmental. They're just having a little fun showing off their new swords. I thought the photos were nice. As for the nerdiness of it... Get over yourselves. We're ALL nerds here. :P
