Naxx-10 loot discovered
The ten-man version of Naxxramas was enabled in last night's beta patch, including loot. And thanks to insomniac beta testers and to MMO-Champion, we now get to see a whole bunch of that loot, including class sets, which is what I'm most interested in at the moment. The class sets aren't quite finished yet – their names are things like "Naxxramas 10 Rogue Set," and there aren't any set bonuses – but it's still interesting to see what sort of stats Blizz is planning on giving us.
Some observations:
- The item level on all this stuff is 200; Kil'jaeden's drops are ilvl 164.
- Given that two tiers are typically about 14 ilvls apart, this implies that when we see Naxx-25 loot it will probably be ilvl 214 or so.
- I know that we've got spell power now, and no +healing, but it still took me a few minutes to figure out why I couldn't find a healing weapon.
- Melee one-handed weapons are doing 143 DPS; by comparison, Hand of the Deceiver, from Kil'jaeden, does 114 (the highest currently available in a one-handed weaopn).
- I don't like to see items with shield block on them that aren't shields (Deflection Band, Waistguard of the Tutor), since only half of the tanks can use them.
- There's an oddly large amount of crit rating on the Priest healing set. Is this a consequence of some change I haven't quite digested yet?
Anyway, this all looks good; go look at the items yourself at MMO-Champion. I can't wait to see what they're going to do with tokens, and to see some of the Naxx-25 stuff start to drop.

Very happy that we won't be sticking around in sunwell/t6 loot when we enter naxx, mainly because I'll be making another char. my main so it's gear is a few epics/blues and wouldn't want to lose a spot out just because the other person can head through the whole tier with ease, i'll have a chance at the loot :)

Wow...items look pretty sick. I didn't look at everything, but the ones I looked at seem epic.
I think the +crit on the priest gear is a result of the gear homoginization.

hmm where are the screen shots of the gear or hasn't been implemented yet ?? not the stats but the look

The crit changes may have something to do with hearing that Mindflay can now crit somehow.

Wow and they said your amazing gear wouldn't be replaced

The pally tank set has strength on it... Anyone know why? Thanks
Tomah Sep 6th 2008 9:50AM
Pretty much everything we use to tank scales with both AP and Spellpower in Wrath. So, strength becomes Okay for us, and since Blizzard's doing that gear homogenization thing...
Marbles Sep 6th 2008 9:58AM
Many of the previously Spelldamage only spells (Consecration, Exorcism, etc) now also scale with AP; hence, Strength.
The 51-point Protection talent scales with weapon damage, hence Attack Power, hence Strength.
I also read (though I never no idea where I read it) that the Strength to Block Value ratio has increased, so it should help that too.
The reasons for this appear to be two-fold. One, if Tanking Plate drops, it will apply to all three Plate classes (unless has any Block on it as Deathknights won't want it). Two, if push comes to shove, a Retribution Paladin should be able to tank adequately (not brilliantly).

damn ima mage and taht gear puts my tier 6 to shame, it takes it out backa and beats it like a mule
Qalor Sep 6th 2008 10:45AM
Strength is amazing for paladins, it's the new threat stat.
Also, in regards to priests, disc priest at the least have a lot of good stuff going on with them and crits. Holy priests can use it, but it's not near as good for them.
Myssidia Sep 7th 2008 1:36AM
=] Well, an increased chance to crit is also an increased chance to overheal, and the more overheal a holy priest has, the more s/he will be returned in mana.

Very solid rundown of the Nax-10 items. Great article, Eliah! :)

I now wish I was in the Beta, specifically so I could provide feedback on the Beta boards.
"You have split druid feral into 2 trees (dps and tanking) but the gear for both is identical. Ask anyone, you're failing."
Matthew Rossi Sep 6th 2008 12:33PM
As a warrior, I'm going to say "Give them time". Look at what they just did for prot. Ferals will get their pass, they can't do everything at once.
Josh Sep 6th 2008 1:31PM
Agreed. If you ask me, that Feral gear isn't good for a bear or a cat. Surely they'll change it.

Can someone please tell me what item level means? I don't get the system! Thx if u help =]
WatcherZero Sep 6th 2008 12:13PM
Think of it like an item stat budget, all the stats have a cost in points and an item with an iLevel of 200 has 200 points to spend on those stats. Its a way of balancing all items against each other to be the same strength, it also allows blizzard to put completley diffrent ratios of stats on an item and still ultimatley be the same strength.

"There's an oddly large amount of crit rating on the Priest healing set. Is this a consequence of some change I haven't quite digested yet?"
Yeah, the change is:
that's Mage gear too. There is no such thing as healing sets anymore. Just Spell Power sets. you said it yourself, earlier:
"I know that we've got spell power now, and no +healing, but it still took me a few minutes to figure out why I couldn't find a healing weapon."
Same concept applies to the gear. no more healing gear, just spell power gear. you dont like the crit? TOO BAD! Mages don't really like the spirit.
Eliah Hecht Sep 6th 2008 1:00PM
I was referring to the set labeled "Priest Healer Set" ;)

well obviously you don't know anything about priests, i don't either but i wouldn't make ignorant comments like that
and you already told yourself about spellpower, so why would you say there aren't any healing weapons
