Breakfast Topic: Player race desires
Since the beginning of The Burning Crusade, I've wanted playable Ethereals. I don't care which faction or what classes, I just want to play an Ethereal. Heck, if all you could do with an ethereal character is walk around and emote, I would still roll one. I don't know why I'm so infatuated with them, but I pretty much like most things about them. Their design, their towns, the Consortium's debonaire way of operations. The other Burning Crusade race I want to play is an Arakkoa. Specifically an Arakkoa Priest or Paladin. I don't like the birdmen as much as the blinkymen, but I found myself incredibly intrigued by the few Light-following arakkoa scattered around. I wanted to learn more about them, but there wasn't anymore to learn, unfortunately.
Now that I'm in the Wrath of the Lich King Beta, my new fascination is the Vrykul. Aesthetically, they are by far the most awesome race in WoW, and they're steeped in Norse lore which is just awesome. Their women look like they could destroy me with their bare hands, and the men seem like they have enough hair customization options to put a player race to shame. If these became a player race, I would reroll so fast.
Do you guys have any races you would just love to see playable? I have a lot of friends that would adore the chance to play a Goblin but I couldn't do that personally. Not a fan of Goblins. Are you after something a little more 'out there' like Nerubians? Are you a fan of a race from another setting that you'd love to be added to WoW?

i'd like to play as a high elf on the alliance i know there are blood elves but my main is alliance

Alex,
I think both races would be nothing short of outstanding. I'm so tired of the same races. Even if Blizzard took a short cut and implemented them in a shared starting zone (like troll/orc and dwarf/gnome already does). I would reroll an ethereal for sure.

After reading the WoW comic book, and seeing their appearance there, I would really love to see Goblins introduced as the Horde's "little" race.
- Engineering skill enchanced (+10)
- Merchant skill (-10% cost from all vendors)
Also, to agree with an above poster, Pandarens. I understand the sensetivity with China, but come on, they do have to be Pandas, or called Pandas - just look like them! The painting in the WoW TCG Art book by Samwise will sell anyone on this idea. They look amazing. Heck, you could even let the Alliance have them - I'd reroll.

Definitely Pandaren..... w/ a Runemaster hero class

I'd like to see naga as a playable race. I don't see why, if the blood elves can both be a playable race and an evil force working for even more evil people, they shouldn't able to do basically the same with the naga.
I'd also love to see high elves as a playable race. It's not that far-fetched, and Blizzard could always change their appearance and base it on whatever solution they come up with for making themselves less sickly. They could also blame the high elf population boom on whatever solution they come up with.

Broken shaman. *drool*

Ogre, definitely.
Though, I'm one who is of the opinion that there should be more diverse choices amongst the races, just to add a bit of flavor. Same racials and what-not, but a little bit of difference in looks and styles... Such as adding Broken Draenei, Mag'har Orcs, Revantusk Trolls or Forsaken High Elves to the mix. Essentially, the starting areas wouldn't have to change too much, since most noob zones are intended as proving grounds for new recruits, anyway, and all newcomers would generally be shipped off there (or, in the case of Broken Draenei, wake up from the crash), to begin with.
Granted, some races are lacking in some sort of alternate version, such as Night Elves, Humans, and, to one extent or another, Blood Elves (I can't imagine that the Wretched would even remotely work, and High Elves, obviously, are right out.). But, I imagine that something could be figured out, in that regard.

I'm surprised that it hasn't popped up after all those lists of existing races, but I always thought it would be awsome and obvious for the next horde race to be:
The Nathrezim, as in Dreadlords.
It would make easy lore sense because they would originate from Varimathras's army, who answers to Sylvanas of the Forsaken. They would be visually tweaked to be the right size and customizable and everything, but it would be hard to make them look anything less then hardcore. And this should satisfy all the people wanting to play vampires, without actually being lame like vampires.

I'm boring. I want Naga.
Schadenfreude Sep 7th 2008 1:10PM
I REALLY like the Vrykul. Do want.
I've been wanting to play Naga, Tuskarr and Arakkoa for ages. I wish there were "mercenary" races that could join either the horde or alliance at creation, and maybe even start at level 55.
rosencratz Sep 7th 2008 1:10PM
Ever since i heard of the Vryjul i was wishing i could play one and now i've actually seen screenshots of them i could only want it more. I only hope we're given customisation options via the hairdresser to match.
Same goes for the Taunka.
It'd be great if either/or were made playable. Prefferably Vrykull on alliance side imo and Taunka to join their Tauren brethren in the horde.... if it was switched round though? I wouldn't mind but it'd be wierd to see human looking humanoids on horde side.
P./s As for the comments about having to restructure stuff because the Vrykull are too big. I don't think this statement is true they could be of average size(Slightly taller than human... nightelf or tauren height maybe) this'd work fine. It's not like all the other playable races aren't a lot bigger than us too when they're aggressive mobs in the wilds.

Naga and dragonkin all the way!
Zakk Sep 7th 2008 1:36PM
I like the Vrykul a lot, too. Norse mythology is numbah one mythology, and they just plain look awesome =P

I could see blizz doing a hero class thing with the Maghar, Pandaren, Broken and other like that, as it would be easy to slip a starting area like with the deathknight any where in a further along area.
I would prefer an actual skin/model changer myself.
Orcs could switch to a Maghar
Trolls to any of the like 8 variations out there (I prefer the beefier trolls that look so intimidating from like Sunken Temple)
Draenari could switch to broken
Forsaken could switch to any undead race model (that would be cool)
and so on.
I am definitely a supporter of the Neutral Faction. Goblin, Etheral, Maghar, Ogre, Pandaren, Furblog, and any other neutral race.
They could enter either factions use their AH or their own neutral one but dont let them trade with either side as it would not fit into their "ideals" of being neutral. Their way of commerce is thru the sale of wares. The neutral faction can of course trade with each other. This would add a new dynamic to the AH without unbalancing it. Create a whole new dynamic to the game. You dont need to add any huge hubs for them any where as they can use any factions hubs.
As for pvp I dont have a solution for that.
bigjonno Sep 7th 2008 2:58PM
I've talked about a neutral faction for ages. The neutrals could join either side in PvP as a balance thing, kinda like hitting "random" in a team FPS.
Hoff Sep 12th 2008 4:53AM
I want a neutral faction made up of goblins and ogres, people that could go from town to town trading with anyone. Or, on the flip-side, ogres for the Horde and... I dunno, some sissy race for the alliance.

"Aesthetically, they are by far the most awesome race in WoW"
your opinion. most wow players won't share it. wipe out these sentences from wowinsider.
Almyrian Sep 7th 2008 2:48PM
Satyr would be pretty sweet.
thunderchunk Sep 7th 2008 2:58PM
I don't know if anyone's said this but:...
Playable Gronn.
no size reduction, no damage or mitigation reduction. Just pure Gronn goodness.
I-R-PALADIN? Sep 7th 2008 3:07PM
PANDARIANS ALL THE WAY with a new hero class to boot, ya u know what im talkin about lol.
Gnolls would be interesting u see them with the venture co. all the time and i qote the WCIII manual
" It has often been stated that the gnolls would be quite a fearsome race, if they ever stopped tearing each other to pieces long enough to organize themselves into an army"
one more race(s) and probibly more like a whole new faction is the Demons of the burning legion now that would be interesting.
