Kungaloosh drink honors Disney's Adventurers Club

This one's just for the Disney World fans out there -- down in the Orlando resort, there's apparently a club on "Pleasure Island" called the Adventurers Club that offers shows and drinks every night for Disney's adult visitors. Just like most of the stuff at Disney's theme parks, the club has quite a following, and apparently Blizzard devs are part of it. One of the Club's signature drinks, the Kungaloosh, has made its way into the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. This unofficial Disney newsletter has more -- apparently the drink is a cooking recipe that's similar to the real-world recipe. Definitely a fun little Easter egg for Disney and Adventurers Club fans (and a nod to the sad closing of the club -- Disney announced in July that they plan to close it later this month).
Unfortunately, there is no Adventurers Club at Disneyland (located in Anaheim, where Blizzard is and where BlizzCon will be held), which is too bad, because we here at WoW Insider are in the middle of looking for a location for our BlizzCon meetup. Last year, we held it at The Lost Bar, and that worked pretty well, but if anyone knows of a better location around the Anaheim Convention Center (or even better, if anyone works at Disneyland and wants to offer up a great location for us to bring a bunch of WoW Insider readers), definitely drop us a tip. It would be great to find a place where we could actually drink Kungalooshes (or any other drink, really, we're not too picky) while meeting up with all of our favorite readers during BlizzCon.

Sadly, the Adventurers Club in Disney World is closing this month.
Kungaloosh, Adventurers!

Agreed, must be a tribute to the soon to close Adventurers Club. Such a shame they don't move it over to Animal Kingdom. Such is life.

wikihow says:
Old Kungaloosh Recipe -- Circa 1997<
1 1/4 ounce vodka
1 1/4 ounce Malibu Rum
3/4 ounce Midori (melon liqueur)
2 tablespoons pineapple juice
1 splash cranberry juice
New Kungaloosh Recipe -- since 2000 or so
1 cup Daily's Strawberry Daiquiri Mix
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum
1/4 cup blackberry brandy
Both sound tasty.

I've been going to the Adventurers Club for years and it breaks my heart knowing that it is closing. I went there for my last time during memorial day weekend. It really was a one of a kind place and putting this drink in the game makes me happy to see that others like me appreciate this wonderful place.

Great tribute! The Adventurers Club will be sorely missed.

Good riddance to Pleasure Island, it single handedly killed the tourist nightlife industry on Church Street Station (i.e. REAL Orland) and catered to the lowest form of nightlife. Only people that hung out there were tourists, clueless tools, and Disney employees. Bye bye pleasure Island, REAL orlando residents and its nightlife will not miss you in the slightest.

I second this. Screw Pleasure Island, if you hung out there for any other reason than having to stay on Disney property you are indeed a culture-less, boring, clueless hack. Pleasure Island is to a bar/club scene what Hannah Montana or Britney SPears are/were to music
OrlandoUrbanWaste Sep 9th 2008 4:32PM
Seriously!!!! Sans the excuse of being a Disney employee or being FORCED to stay on Disney property...You hang out at "Downtown" DIsney's Pleasure Island instead of 1 bar or club out of the 10000000000000000000000 in DOWNTOWN orlando or surrounding area... YOU ARE A DOUCHE. Jeers blizzard employees. You seem suddenly a lot less hip.
lazarel Sep 9th 2008 4:52PM
I don't understand your troll rant...
If the people who go there are "clueless tools, culture-less, boring, clueless hacks, idiots, *and* DOUCHEs... not to mention suddenly a lot less hip", I would thnk that you would rather have the club stay open to keep all of those unwanted people out of your (I'm guessing) Super Cool Clubs?
Instead you want the club to close, because even though it is so lame, it has "single handedly killed the tourist nightlife industry on Church Street Station (i.e. REAL Orland)"
Or maybe I *do* understand

I think you're mistaken. Pleasure Island isn't closing, just that one particular club. Pleasure Island is staying open.
Jack Thomsan Sep 10th 2008 3:38AM
Haha, well I think it's funny you're glad it's closed because the people who go there suck. Now the sucky people will just go where everyone else is and you'll have to deal with them. If anything this place was good for you in the sense that it kept apparently lame people away.
Keyra Sep 10th 2008 8:42AM
So, apparently, you and also apparently you ALONE believe that people who go there are lame, and yet you exercise your coolness by creating numerous trolling accounts so you can carry on a conversation with yourself.
Um.........yeah.

Back in high school, our orchestra played Epcot center and got a week long vacation at the Disney World resort. We got to go to a pretty much vacant Pleasure Island and have a dance party in a 70's themed blacklighted dance club. It was pretty fun dancing around in the go-go cages.

around the ACC? Bar Louie's Grill & Tavern at Anaheim's Garden Walk. It's supposed to finally be opening this week... lots of drinks... lots of foods...
Other than that? If I recall the crowd from last year, you might want to get their early to warn the MoD of a possible large group converging for a meet-up of sorts.
Teni Sep 10th 2008 2:54PM
Hey Niekon -- Glad to see you around here!
I agree, Roy's is way too expensive for a meet. It's considered a nice restaurant (even though it's turned into a chain now).

DT disney is being closed because they have a serious gang problem.
Boal Sep 9th 2008 5:48PM
I live about 5 minutes from Disneyland (I can see and hear the fireworks from my upstairs bedroom), and a quick freeway-hop to the ACC. Sadly, I will not be attending Blizzcon due to a college basketball game I have to participate in over the weekend, but I would like to attend a WoW-Insider event outside the convention center so I have compiled a very short list of places nearby that would be great for any meet-up event:
1. Downtown Disney - ESPN Zone, The House of Blues, and Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen are just a few places in DTD that can handle extremely large groups with ease.
2. Plaza Garibaldi - Voted Anaheim's #1 place for meet-ups and events. It is a Mexican food restaurant and so much more. From their website, "Our restaurant is named for the famous Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico where fabulous food, refreshing beverages and exciting music are a tradition." They have a Dinner Theater where a Mariachi band usually plays, but upon request it can be used for any speaker (such as a WoW-Insider columnist). They also have two huge plasma TVs in there... We could ask them to get the Blizzcon PPV.
3. Anaheim Garden Walk - 37 Stores and Restaurants are currently open in Anaheim's newest shopping and entertainment center. It is located near the Honda Center and The Pond so it is prime real estate between Disneyland and the Convention Center. My personal choice for the Garden Walk is Roy's. It is a Hawaiian Restaurant, but it is a bit pricey. They have a laid back decor as you would expect, but the staff and management are more than accommodating to large groups and events.
So there it is. You asked for some ideas and coming from a local I figured I could give some insight. If my opinion mattered at all I would say Plaza Garibaldi because we as a WoW-Insider community could do so much with the stage and the TVs, not to mention the food is delicious and the drinks are amazing. Any other locals feel free to weigh in on my recommendations and columnists please let me know what you think!

I got married at Disneyland.... we go about once a week. (So, I have two addictions I suppose...)
Anyhow, I agree that Downtown Disney at the DLR is a great choice. Back near House of Blues / Rain forest / ESPN, it's wide open and can handle a large amount of people.
If you do form a meet over there, let us know!

while Plaza Garibaldi sounds like a good place to have a gathering, the location compared to Garden Walk and Downtown Disney is a bit far from ACC.
In terms of Roy's @ Garden Walk... the price factor comes into play there. Just for a dinner for two I easily can put down over $100 for a meal and that's before the wine is poured.
Bar Louie's is supposed to be good... if their other locations across the US are any indication. We should know more about them hopefully this weekend when my little group of tasters hit the place for a little foodie review.
For DtD, the places you listed would need advance notice and probably a hefty deposit for a group the size of which was at The Lost Bar last year. If The Lost Bar is going to be the place again this year I'll see what I can do to at least alert some of friends who work there so it isn't much of a surprise this year.
