Steamwheedle holds a Dance of the Dead next month

We always love to hear about cool roleplay events, and it looks like there's a particularly cool one coming up over on Steamwheedle (Horde-side) on October 11th. Their Caer Darrow inspired Dance of the Dead looks like it's got a lot going on -- a costume contest, a dueling event, some fortune telling and a midnight toast. But they have a couple events that really raise the bar for organizing a roleplay extravaganza -- a "Corrupt a Wish" contest and a Wild Hunt. The Corrupt a Wish seems cool. You make a wish in two sentences, and a winner is chosen to have the wish come true. (I imagine they want you to keep it reasonable, though.) The trick comes in that your wish gets twisted into a nightmare version.
The even cooler event, though, is the Wild Hunt. They've captured some Alliance members (volunteer roleplayers), who've been stripped of their uber gear. Through the night, the Alliance will be released into the wild, wearing only some gray and white items. The Horde will go on a Wild Hunt to find and kill the Alliance members. To complicate the hunt, the Alliance victims do have allies -- rescuers who're wandering the Plaguelands looking for their lost kin.
This event looks really well-planned, and it makes me wish I had an Alliance character myself on Steamwheedle. You can contact Banshih for more details if you're Horde, or Charam if you're Alliance.

Halloween parties IRL are much more exiting.

I'm guessing you'd heckle WoW articles if this was a Blog about RL, correct?

Wow sounds fun. Idea I just had...would be cool if the Alliance dropped some form of PvP mark (maybe player made) so the people hosting the event could give out prizes!

I've wondered about these role-playing servers. I'm kind of confused by the whole thing. Is it more of WoW mixed with some pretending and make believe or what?
Evi Sep 9th 2008 6:38PM
Well, kinda, yeah. :) On RP servers, people try to stay "in character". That means they speak as their character would. No references to current events such as television shows, modern technology, etc. Sometimes you want to talk about such things, of course, so you speak "out of character" (ooc).
The level of role-playing you'll find on RP servers varies wildly in relation to location, which side you're playing on, and which server. Some servers are more serious about RP than others. On some servers you'll find people RPing all over the place; on others you really need to seek it out.
Hope that helped explain at least a little!

It's a regular server, but the players' characters act and behave as if they were actually within the world of Warcraft. You know, playing a role. I guess that does involve some pretending and make-believe, but roleplaying tends to do that even in other games and scenarios, more or less rigid.

You'll find a lot of serious roleplayers on the server Maelstrom-US on both factions, possibly more so on Alliance.
Most of which are the "srs bssness" roleplayers, and have no problem with sending hatemail and evil hissing whispers. I was on that server alliance side for about three months, though it is still a RP-PVP server (and yes I do know that It doesn't stand for really powerful player versus player).
If Rp'ing is your thing I suggest the lively community of Maelstrom. I met some great people while being there and made year+ long friends that I still talk to even though I have been gone from that server a LONG time.
But I must say Azgalor-US FTW!
But I'm rerolling a horde shammy as a test on Silvermoon. Any suggestions on a good Horde side US server that might be in use of a shammy?
Haha wow where'd the hate filled, puss spewing, critic Saiforune GO!! ZOMG! I must stop the madness!!
Erm...
Adam Holisky still sucks, a few peple get on my nerves with new posters like Zach Yonsen( Spelling? If so sorry I'll fix it soon) blah blah blah....
*edit* Jennies Lees has been doing amazing since the time I exploded! ^.^ Yaya! Way to keep up the awesome work and keep writing!
I hope that lets y'all know i'm still here. :D
( Pst! Zach you're next on my list. Just wait, your judgement day is coming so be very careful. You could ask your co-workers what got me fired up and hopefully you can avoid that stressful situation that will make you judge your writing ability and your ideas on what you should write about.)

Hmm. Thanks for filling me in. Sounds like too much for me to keep up with, though.

Damn, that really sounds fun =O

Woohoo! I have an undead alt on SwC, glad I can have a chance to use it!
Unfortunately, this being posted on such a popular site as wowinsider will bring the wrong types of people. :( Hopefully most of the griefers will stay away, though now that it's up I doubt it.

Wow, this is happening on my server!
I might just have to check this out.

Very cool. Kudos!
Gerogero Sep 9th 2008 11:18PM
So is there going to be any videos of this event?
MechChef Sep 10th 2008 9:40AM
There is some RP on SWC, but not a whole lot. (as far as I can tell, though I generally avoid Silvermoon)
Bricklethumb Sep 10th 2008 10:25AM
Congrats SwC. It is good to hear you are keeping up the tradition started back in the servers early days.
Even though I left long ago, the catch phrase might still apply.
"The best RP server ever, EVER"
*Holds up a glass* Cheers.

I'm proud to see an event created by a guildmate of mine has gotten so popular. Banshih you are awesome, and you always have been!. I might just have to grab a time-card and get back on just to go to that event.
