Background downloader primed for content patch
Zarhym announced on the forums that the next patch is coming, and it's going to be a big one. The particular of that news, however, they're going to turn on the background downloader to start its work "shortly." Shortly, in this case, means soon enough that Zarhym supplied some tips to how to control the speed of the download. We're expecting all that content they've already promised, which includes:
- New class spells and talents
- Stormwind harbor
- Barbershops
- New Arenas
- A built in Guild Calendar
- New Hunter pet skills
- Inscription
- No more Zul'Aman bears
So, the word's pretty much out. If you have goals you want to accomplish before the content patch hits, you better get them rolling along. You don't have much longer.

Holy sh- .. err .. gnomes! I still have to level (race) some alts through Outlands before Wrath.

Question,
The bears are being out but what about the netherwing drakes? Are they going the way of the dodo as well? I recently hit 70 on an alt and I'm grinding netherwing rep atm...should I continue?
jay Sep 10th 2008 7:46PM
Drakes are kinda like Outlands signature, they will stay.
Dalixam Sep 10th 2008 8:06PM
The Netherwing drakes will not disappear.

If WOW releases the 3.0 Wraith patch the same week as Warhammer get released. Just make me more curiose to play Warhammer, than not.

Looking forward to that gigantic harbor. It looks amazing.. Chock-full of npcs, particularly guards. It's going to be easier to gank people at the main gate naked, then it will be trying to cause any havoc in the harbor.

What the flux? They don't seem like they're anywhere near enough done with class balancing to be releasing the patch yet... is holding onto subscribers so dire a need that Blizzard is sacrificing their motto of "release it when its ready"?

I'm in the middle of grinding Netherwing/Sha'tari Skyguard rep atm... is this going to be all for nothing if the patch hits? Will I still be able to grind rep/get the mounts?
Val Sep 15th 2008 1:32AM
I think its kinda stupid and smart at the same time.
For one thing, this means that if the release date gets pushed back to January of 2009 (or Elune forbid even farther then that)
The Frost mages will not freez hell over
and the Gnomes will not blow up the Eastern Kingdoms.
It kinda gives me something to hold on to, ya know?
On the other hand; releasing new talents seems a bit much, though i doubt they will be releasing DK talents.
So who are we to complain? hmm?
Yes, i will be slightly dissappointed if i cant come back at level 77 and get my Violet Nether drake
(just had my first toon hit 70)
I am glad that i dont feel rushed to get compeltely geared for Gruul and Kara. I have some good pieces (ninja night watchman ftw!) and i believe i will be ready to take on the next ten levels, without spending eons and eons to get gear/mounts/titles/gems... that i will never use again.
I do hope that the new armor doesnt look like crap, i like the dark black/red with a slightly green glow theme i have going on here...

I think that all rep mounts (netherwing, sha'tari, CE) will all still be available in the game. The only mount that won't be attainable anymore after 3.0 is the bear mount from ZA, because getting it at level 70+ would become trivial.
Anunub (Scarlet Crusade - Alliance) Sep 11th 2008 4:02AM
What about pets and mounts becoming spells... will these be implemented in the patch?
Also, what about achievements? ...I for one would enjoy re-exploring old school content while I wait for WotLK and all the inevitable awesomeness therein.
BenMS Sep 11th 2008 8:04AM
As far as I can tell, pretty much all of the game-changes (UI, Achievements, Barber shops, Macros being server side) are coming in with the 2.0 patch.

How is it possible that you come to this website and not read any of the many many articles that make it abundantly clear?
Or even the comments?
No the rewards from the daily quests that are grindable by anyone won't be removed... only the things that currently require skill and subsequently won't once wrath hits. Which are namely the bear and the champion and hand titles.
Seriously if your worrying about anything it shouldn't be rewards from daily quests or buyable from quartermasters. It's like asking if the Outland vendors will stop selling level 70 water.
Sorry if that's harsh but these questions are constantly coming up and repeatedly answered.

Wierd my last post was in response to someone but somehow their post has gone and mine is left.... on it's own.... Looking like a rambling old hobo on a street corner.
fair enough i guess.
it was about the Netherdrakes ofcourse.
virid Sep 11th 2008 9:42AM
but then why take out the amani war bears before the expansion? there are plenty of toons that haven't gotten it yet that could use the extra time.
foux Sep 11th 2008 10:21AM
I quite agree with virid, I don't understand why the bear is removed so soon
Tristina Sep 14th 2008 11:47AM
Is anyone else having problems with the downloader? Mine gets to 23% and then stops. I left it running overnight and, when I got up, it was still at 23%.
