Mind Flay gets bigger crits, better beams
The class designers have filtered out a little more information regarding our Mind Flay upgrades, and it's very pleasant to hear. In addition to the higher coefficient on Mind Flay and gaining an ability to crit, Shadow Power will give Mind Flay 100% bonus damage crits, rather than the baseline 50%. This is very good news, because 50% crits just don't cut it anymore. Almost everybody has 100% bonus crit damage via talents, and not having the option to spec that way is quite a hurdle when you're trying to be competitive. Very good news indeed.
In less game changing but still exciting news, Mind Flay and other beam-type spells (Drain Life, Drain Soul, etc) will be getting a graphical overhaul. Perhaps they'll be more like Penance's fancy missiles? Or maybe they'll just be more of a beam than "behold my blue/green/purple/yellow squiggly line of doom!" Either way, I'm happy to hear it. I'm a firm believer in 'shinier is better.'

I'd like to see the ability to change the colour of our beams through Glyphs. Perhaps the use of ink with parchments?
PURPLE BEAM FACE MELTING!

That would be amazing. I hope they offer color change glyphs for many spells. It would be really nice to have some variety. Imagine being able to pick a color and redo most of your main spells in that theme.

If you consider Glyphs to be as important as Gems, with far fewer slots, would you really want to use a Glyph slot for a simple color change? Imagine if they had gems like that:
[Shiny Crimson Spinel]
Binds when picked up

Except.... that the three 'minor glyph' slots will be ONLY cosmetic stuff. You can't put fancy stat/ability boosting glyphs in there. You get three slots for only simple changes that do nothing but make your stuff look prettier.

I heard that Haris Pilton will sell you a nice Gold Eternium Band... It doesn't really do anything, but it sure is shiny. Only 3000g to boot!

About freeking time. And now Int and spell crit wont be a waisted stat for shadow priests. I cant wait to try this out.

Are they making dispersion an aggro dump? Or fade a permanent one. I do not see just higher damage being competitive with DPSers that have permanent aggro dumps.

I hope it's the spirally beam graphic, that one's my favorite.
(Think green beam on Netherspite or the swirly rope graphic for wrangling aether rays).
I'd be happy with netherspite's blue beam effect as well, but since they do have all these different looking beams I hope they don't make all the player spells the same. Mind Flay shouldn't look the same as a warlock's drain spells.

Warlock beams are getting overhauled too. Not sure if they are going to be the same after wards or if they are just doing a general enhancement to all beams.

From reading the article, I can't tell if Mind Flay got Viagra, herbal penis enlargement, or Urigro.

Think of MMO Champion of the Associated Press, and Wowinsider as the NYTimes. Yes, they are both media related, but they don't do the same thing.
Vlad, here are your last several quotes:
"no one here cares about massively. just like golfers dont care about sports illustrated. yes its a sport. but its not their sport."
"MMO-Champion broke this story 4 days ago"
"someone respects wowinsider?
interesting. once they give credit to all the sources on all the copies "news" stories i could see more people respecting them too. oh, and when schramm gets a few more brain cell's too :)"
"POST COURTESY OF MMO-CHAMPION!!!
they broke this hours ago. at least give credit to boubouille who breaks his ass getting all this news you fuckers steal as your own :)"
SHUT UP, you troll.

Just pray it isn't as bad as the hunter's "revamped" volley graphics that lasted for... oh... one patch.

Will we see some holy dps priest news? Would be nice with the Scourge around and for a fresh change in priest dps ;)
Jack Spicer Sep 10th 2008 2:38PM
Just a quick correction/clarification to the post, the blue blizzard post states that the Shadow Power talent will offer 100% crit damage, but does not say that it will only apply to Mind Flay and that the increase will also apply to Shadow Word: Death and Mind Blast which were effected by this talent (at a 50% crit damage increase) before.
Jack Spicer Sep 10th 2008 2:41PM
Sorry I meant to write "I believe that this increase will also apply to Shadow Word: Death...."
