They've decided. Riding Crops, Carrots on a Stick, Skybreaker Whip, all of that jazz? Gone. Done. No more. They're being removed entirely. (Edit: Okay, they're gone after level 70. So they're mostly gone. Riding Crop has a level 69 requirement, you get to use it for about 2 levels.) I hope you had fun farming up those Primal Mights to make Crops for all of your alts. I also hope you didn't want to keep them, because you're out of luck!
Spells/abilities like Crusader Aura and On a Pale Horse will still work, but items will not do anything. Ghostcrawler says they have plans for new implementations of improving mounted speed, and my money is on sucking another 1,000g out of you for a flat 10% speed increase. After all, that's about what it costs to fly in chilly climates, apparently.

you know what would really be funny?... if they decided to make it so you can't use any gear you got during TBC past lvl 70. like the second you hit lvl 71 all of your raiding/pvp/dungeon? gear gets un-equipped automatically. i would laugh my ass off.

What about Mithril Spurs? Are they getting the boot too?
Seems to me all those other items (carrot on a stick, etc) should just be spurs...boots aren't going anywhere, right? Right? Oh god, not the boots too!!!

I get what your saying 'gold is easy'. But I don't like doing dailies. I only do 1 daily every day and that is the Battle Ground Honor one. Which only pays about 15Gold or so. I just don't find Dailies fun (Remember this is a game) and I prefer not to do them. Sure that means I'm not running around with a zillion gold, but I get by with my small 1,500G - When I decided to pay out 120G for my Crop I didn't expect to just be throwing my money away, not to mention I wanted the 10% increase it gave me an edge in battle grounds that I no longer have.
So yes I will be annoyed and moan because that is my right when I'm paying Blizzard a subscription. They are offering me a service and as a customer its my right to complain when their service changes in a negative way. No I'm not going to cut my subscription over this that would be an overreaction. But maybe, just maybe they read these comments and see how their error in judgement will make many gamers disheartened at Blizzard and maybe they will fix it.

Having made a bunch of these crops at colossal expense and getting the skyshatter whip I'm kinda disappointed.

I'm fine with them removing the trinkets, but then they really must add another way to get the 10% speed increase, because I am a total addict to mount speed :S At low levels I had spurs, riding skill enchant and carrot, and at the moment I could use the crop I never took it out of my bag until I got my skybreaker whip (property of the top orc!).

Well... crap... not only did I already make a bunch of them for all of my mounts, but we're losing the speed increase altogether? I realize that there might be a speed increase in the Cold Weather Flying skill - but I ask you, how does that affect land Mount speed?

Blizzard once again proves that they have fucked up priorities. They constantly try to fix what isn't broken (breaking it in the process), while broken problems are deemed to be working as intended.
Changes like this really irritate me. I'd rather be stuck with the wrong trinket than have it made irrelevant because Blizzard's devs don't have the brain power to come up with a solution.
I mean, it's not like they couldn't just put a slot on the mount screen for a "mount trinket". e.e

Unless they can make mounts "trainable" like hunter pets. Train them to fly faster and stuff? I wouldn't mind.

Never bought a riding crop after seeing so many people wear them into raids. Sure, I'm a little slower, but I don't suddenly realize I haven' got my Commendation of Kael'Thas equipped half way through the boss fight.

So we go north @ 68 and cant fly there!
The crop is only usable @ 69 but as we r in northrend we cant use it anyway rendering it useless!!

I sincerely doubt they're just going to remove speed-enhancing items from the game without a replacement. The howls would be too loud to bear. My money is on some kind of replacement by the time the expansion goes live, probably some kind of addition to the same panel housing the mounts.
