Misdirection gets a shorter cooldown in Wrath
Since the addiiton of Tricks of the Trade to the Rogue repertoire in the Wrath of the Lich King Beta, Hunters have felt a little slighted. Not only did Rogues get Misdirection, a somewhat defining Hunter ability in PvE, they got Misdirection on a much shorter cooldown that also augmented the tank's damage for even more threat. Koraa brought good news late last night, mentioning that Misdirection's cooldown will be lowered to 30 seconds (down from 2 minutes) to match the cooldown of Tricks of the Trade. While Misdirection still doesn't have any secondary effects like Tricks does, you have to consider the fact that it can be used at range which is a pretty big deal. While the abilities have similar effects, they'll be used for wholly different things. It's a threat management tool for Rogues, whereas it's a pulling ability for Hunters. The two abilities fill different roles despite their similarities. Hunter threat tends to have some pretty wild spikes sometimes, but I think they have all the threat management they need. Feign Death is on a 30 second cooldown, and the Rogue threat wipe is at 3 minutes.

Another good question. Has growl ever worked that well since TBC?
I mean I send my pet in, hes building aggro for about 6 seconds then I Auto Shot and HORRAY, I obtained aggro.
I know that its not working in the Wrath Beta (I heard about it, I don't have a Beta invite (Damm you Blizzard))

Nice, less time to wait on raids when people mess up MD's

Not that I have any plans, or even hopes, of doing this in WotLK but with the shortened cooldown of misdirection this could make it very possible of having a hunter's pet tank a five-man instance. Perhaps they had that in mind as well, not that I have any desire of giving Blizzard credit for doing something right nowadays.

I was so happen when I heard about Tricks of the Trade. Lord knows rogues needed more sway to get into raids. I hardly ever see more then two rogues in a raid compared to the 4 or 5 hunters and shammies. We may be some of the highest dps around but seems that isn't enough anymore ya gotta have group utility. I was hoping for something a little more exciting then another version of Misdirect but I'll take it happily. Blizzard is doing right by trying to lessen raid stacking. And this shorter cooldown of misdirect seems cool to. Could help in raids plus I'm working on leveling a hunter(especially for exotic pets) and wanna raid him to.

It's only fair. Our camouflage is like the rogue's stealth ability. At least we get a cooldown reduction—how good is that?

Misdirection is essentially a pulling ability. I doubt rogues will take over that role with Tricks and run in to melee pull the boss and get squatted by adds or before he can swing at it.
And in response to the people saying you should MD the tanks mid-fight to help on their threat, well unless it's a boss with some special threat mechanic or aggro reset I see no point in wasting alot of mana, global cooldown, decrease in dps by targeting the tank and then target back the boss. MD is not a huge amount of threat, and while it might help a little, it's hardly much and really not worth it.

It is a fair change. Hunter's should be the kings of adding threat to the tank through misdirection. Rogues have already taken other classes moves e.g. mortal strike, evasion and shadow step. http://www.worldofwarcraftblogger.com

so what? rogue cd is on 3m...
if FD was a bug free ability yeah you could say 3m is a big deal.. bug FD is buggy as hell plus it has resist. so.. hum.. gief rogue treath.

You've obviously never used Vanish in a raid situation.

Rogues can throw knives you know. They'll be able to pull using TotT just fine.

Your average thrown weapon does very little damage on a hit, having a relatively very fast attack speed. On top of that, the only special ability currently in game that uses a thrown weapon requires combo points for use, and itself does little damage. Misdirect is thus clearly superior for pulling.

I cind of wonder if thay have an encounter for all this planed.
I forsee a static caster and a melee mob both needing to be tanked by the same tank *for some buff / debuff* But thay have to be tanked away from eachother. *Do to some arua like buff*
Rogues and hunters on the caster sinding the thret back at the tank.
Sounds fun.

TotT is more or less another buff to dagger rogues, which Blizz has pushed alot of in the expansion.
Every rogue WANTS to open with a huge ambush crit but you know it will pull and result with you on the floor.
As mentioned in a few of the above post, hunters do possess several awesome groups utilities and nearly equal dps. Plus you're ranged which makes life alot easier.
This is really the first group utility the rogue has ever received which brings up some really interesting questions how the game could be changing.

It really seems like blizzard intends for hunters to be inferior to rogues in every way. There are all kinds of places where similar talents and spells exist, but in every case, the rogues get more for less.

Really? You get your ability earlier, and don't have to risk your own hide to use it. Just stand back with your autoshot, mail armor, and personal tank, and continue to complain about all the abilities the meleeing, leather-wearing loners have "better than you," and continue to ignore how soft of targets we are, and how easy it is to smack us if we give you the chance.
