New PvP title and mount

While the Amani War Bear will be unattainable when Patch 3.0 hits, but it seems like there might just be a replacement -- will guilds be organizing these new 'bear runs'? I certainly hope so. I was never a fan of the Amani War Bear, or bears as mounts in general, but a PvP mount that rewards killing all four of the opposing faction's leaders? Oh man. Where do I sign up? I certainly hope that the mount will sport a different, non-troll armor model as well as faction insignias and the requisite reds or blues. These new bear mounts might just be incentive enough to get players to raid enemy cities and, hopefully, get to 100k HK along the way.

Finally! An incentive to raid enemy cities.
Brilliant idea, Blizz.

Slaying 4 faction leaders seems like a much better way to get the reward. 100,000 HKs is just another grind... no creativity required.

I'd like both things, the title and the mount, but I'm not going to be getting either. I don't quite see my guild riding on any of the cities, and I don't do PVP.

This is an excellent incentive to go raiding faction cities, this will be serious fun seeing horde/ally around often in your cities, the main fun will come from unorganized failiure groups unable to get half-way past places such as SW.
100k HK is just a grind as mentioned, nothing special.

Wonder if theyll make it possible to raid horde cities without the server crashing.. if not, then this one will be mostly hordeside at least on my server.

Yes!! This is awesome! I was hoping that perhaps the Amani War Bear would become a rare drop off Zul-Jin, so it would be rare but not impossible to get, like Rivendare's horse or the Zulian Tiger, but this is sounding even better.

Are you kidding? like there aren't already enough bears anyway. The faction leaders are pushovers already, this will just have everyone and their brothers on bears.
Thumbs down. The 100K kills idea is much better, there are only a handful of people that have that, and it rewards the old-school players since they are much more likely to get to 100K. They don't really have anything else to show for their time put in, at least they could get a cool title and mount.

Yeah, the faction leaders are real pushovers. I've taken part in a couple of raids, and seen plenty more with the opposing faction attempting a take-down. I've never seen it done successfully. I'm sure that a well organized guild could do it, but none of the faction leaders are pushovers, especially not when you have to deal with guard spawns, graveyard rezzing that requires a lengthy run back, and players who get involved. Nice to see that you're so uber though.

maybe on your server, try a low-pop server and get back to me ;)

Try playing on a PvP server sometime. The alliance faction leaders are dropped by 30-40 man raids weekly. It may be a while before it happens again when they are bumped up to 80 and the gear is reset, but once it starts happening again, it will probably be a daily occurrence if there's an achievement for it. When the horde outnumber the alliance 3:1, it's not that tough to roll into stormwind and kill everything along the way. The NPC's are 5 levels below the raiding players, and the defending players are just swamped.
Bear in mind, I like this achievement and think it will promote world PvP, but it definitely doesn't deserve a bear mount.

Did it occur to you that Blizz might make changes to make killing faction leaders significantly more difficult? They didn't exaclty give out these bear mounts for free in TBC and I doub they will in Wrath either.
vlad Sep 14th 2008 11:37AM
im with zach. never liked that bear. why the hell is it wearing a jockstrap and cup on its face?
imo dumb looking. cant understand all the excitement over those things besides the obvious skill of getting one.
tehvoid Sep 14th 2008 11:58AM
Is there an achievement for defending our leader? That would spice things up ^^
bigjonno Sep 14th 2008 12:08PM
There are enough things in WoW that reward people simply for having too much time on their hands. The racial leader version at least guarantees people will be doing something different and exciting (I've only ever taken part in one city raid and that was only as a bit of a joke.) 100k kills just rewards children and people who put an unhealthy amount of time into the game. PvP already gives people epics for time invested and nothing else, it doesn't need another incentive.

Horde side still have incredibly vulnerable backdoors in the two main cities, Orgrimmar and Undercity? And underpopulation on most servers? Yeah, this is an Alliance reward.
The 100K honorable kill thing...Even I'm liable to get that, and I loathe PVP. Getting a gladiator set to jump into PVE content (and be replaced with PVE equipment) at 70 already got me 50K. If I do the same thing at 80, voila.
Now, that 6 minute victory in AV seems like an achievement worth a title, though.

I don't know if you've heard, but Stormwind's getting a backdoor in 3.0.2/WotLK. It's a little place called Stormwind Harbor that connects to Auberdine/Darkshore, which any random group of Hordies can clear through. Not to mention Exodar's backdoor that takes you straight to Velen. That leaves 2 Alliance cities with backdoors, same as Horde.
A raid that gives a bear mount? It's like the PvP version of Zul'Aman. I just wish they'd give credit to the Gnome and Troll leaders. They've been with their respective factions for years, but they get snubbed in favor of the crashed aliens and newly traitorous elves?
Zep Sep 14th 2008 1:48PM
This brings up the question again... if you're raiding a city with multiple 40-mans, then do they all get credit, or just the one that tagged the leader?
Chukie Sep 14th 2008 3:18PM
Can't wait to raid Darn and exodar. Will be nice to stand on the dock in darkshore and wait for the boat with 40 of my friends.
Rocowl Sep 14th 2008 4:24PM
Nice.
The mount is lame IMO, its just the same bear for both factions.
Youd expect the "off the horde/alliance" mount to be more faction related.
But the achievements are cool, killing the leaders is always an interesting thing but I hope it doesnt become too common and annoying.
The kill 100,0000 achievement is the one that really has me exited.
