WoW Moviewatch: Devour
Inspired by Baron Soosdon, first time machinimator, Buzz Dawson, learned to make machinima in just three days with not only World of Warcraft, but also F.E.A.R. He even bought the editing program, Sony Vegas 9, just for this project, which is quite ambitious for an inaugural effort. The result of his educational experiment, Devour, a music video for the song by Shinedown, isn't a literal interpretation, employs creative use of the L70ETC character models, and contains some great cut scenes.
While I wish WoW was featured a bit more prominently, for a new effort, this is fantastic. The aspect ratio doesn't jump, the characters don't randomly fade in and out, and the transitions are fairly smooth. What say you, (constructively) critical commenters?

So I guess Sony vegas 9 is like the cheat sheet for machinimators? Because some of the veterans don't have pretty shadow effetcs and the like but this new guy plays with em constantly.
Also, inserting F.E.A.R. cut scenes also clouds my thoughts about this one, cause they are always pretty. Anyway, good work for a first attempt. It seems this guy will be more of a general video game than solely WoW machinimator. Whatever works, cause it looks good.
The next challenge should be coming up with his own story.

Actually, Vegas is just a very good-quality video editor with the ability to manipulate elements of a scene. Effects and what-not can be achieved here and there, but it still takes good ol' human talent to add these elements (even at times on a time-consuming frame-by-frame basis ala Adobe After Effects) and make them work correctly :-)

That was a great combination, also theres no Cut Scenes in FEAR, all that is stuff you play through, even the big explosion, that was an AMAZING machinima to me.
Helps that im a big fan of FEAR too, loved that game :P (only the original, not its expansions).

For his first try into machinima, Buzz does a great job. It looks like he has done better than some on his first try than others are doing right now. Id also like to see how we can do with original material. Though id give him a break there if his first original script is sub par because some just dont have the gift of writing.
I say give him some time, and he will be one of the ones that we will hear about quite a bit more like Oxhorn, Baron Soosdon, Pinkhair, Martin Falch, Obilith, or a number of other great ones.

Very nicely done. The shadowing is spot-on and the chroma blending is flawless. My only complaint is that there was too much focus on the undead cannibalizing (I understand that it fits in with the title of the song, but it could have been blended in with other elements, IMO). Also, in a few spots, the gamma could have been ramped up a couple of notches as it was too dark to make out what was going on. Still, for a first-timer, this was a great job!

Definitely spoilers in there for those that always wanted to complete FEAR ^_^
Really nice video, music goes well and everything worked well together. The cutscenes give it that bit extra, but it's better when there's something WoW-related in it as the machinimator has achieved in most parts. The final clips before the title/end credits too; like I say not something for people who have not finished FEAR but it does work very well together and would recommend this to anyone into WoW/FEAR to watch.
Great start!
