Dalaran's coins reveal the wishes of Azerothians
BlizzPlanet has already found a fun little set of Easter Eggs hidden in the fountains around the new city hub of Dalaran -- apparently with a little Fishing skill, you can bring up the wishing coins of some of Azeroth's famous inhabitants. Some of the coins are spoilers (so be careful clicking through if you want to avoid that kind of thing), but others are just in there for fun -- Arugal has apparently wished for his own estate (with some doggies to keep him company), and Attumen would like a much more comfortable saddle. There are some good references to the extended universe in there as well, as apparently a few characters from the Warcraft novels have made appearances and throw wishing coins in Dalaran. It's this kind of stuff that is going to make exploring Northrend so much fun -- while Outland was relatively unexplored territory, Dalaran and the rest of Northrend are already well-traveled in the Warcraft universe. It'll be a really good time retracing the footsteps of all the characters we already know.
Thanks, Gurluas!

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
I am SO glad I fish.
Zuldim Sep 15th 2008 4:27PM
I saw that one and I laughed out loud. For real.

What happens when you throw the coins back that have the Use: effect?
WyrmKing Sep 15th 2008 7:53PM
Gives you a buff that gives you a greater chance to fish for coins.

Inigo! Yay!

A lot of those are very amusing for someone who adores little storylines. I always thought Arcanist Doan was kind of a lonely, pervy looking guy, so it makes perfect sense he's moaning over some girl... and that Salandria left a coin, aww. I do hope she and her Draenei counterpart get some plot eventually.

I like Brann Bronzebeard's. Simple and to the point.
"Brann Bronzebeard was here."
Also funny because it seems like he explores the world just to say he's been there. Hell, a Dwarf hanging out in Thunder Bluff without getting attacked? A true inspiration.

Yeh i love that one too, reminds me very much of graffiti you see everywhere like.
"Tom was ere."
I sense the humor Blizz.

Too bad you couldn't make your own wish and toss it into the well. Maybe make it a small chance you'll fish up coins tossed in by people on your friends list.

Inigo FTW.
Al Sep 15th 2008 2:38PM
Man I got here too late, 2 people already caught the Inigo reference!
Braundo Sep 15th 2008 2:47PM
"A frozen scone?" Heh.

Orphans maybe?

Well, that tears it. Inigo Montoy is Kel'thuzad's son.

Or, I guess it could be a reference to Princess Bride. I'd hope that would be Blizz's oblique answer to why Montoy kept KT's phylactery.
Bjara Sep 15th 2008 10:17PM
I think that means that Inigo is Kel's son, too. Obviously, it's also a Princess Bride reference, but it would definitely explain why Inigo betrayed the Argent Dawn.

One of these among the fishing loottables is funny. A ton kills the joke almost immediately.
Ametrine Sep 15th 2008 3:20PM
A few are funny, some actually call back to lore events (Like Thrall's coin), and some are tied to events in the game (like Tirion's coin).
They're not all joke items.
matt Sep 15th 2008 3:57PM
Those are totally awesome.
They also remind me of the wishing stars on the Star Road in Super Mario RPG.
Corrine Sep 15th 2008 4:33PM
Wow. I thought I was going to be the first person to say this. Yeah, I thought of this almost right away.
(And it was Star Hill, not Star Road)
matt Sep 15th 2008 4:37PM
You're right and I actually feel foolish for getting that wrong. SMRPG is one of my all-time favorite SNES games.
