Skill Mastery: Demonic Empowerment

Demonic Empowerment
Requires 30 points in Demonology
Grants the Warlock's summoned demon Empowerment.
- Succubus - Instantly vanishes, causing the Succubus to go into an improved Invisibility state. The vanish effect removes all stuns, snares and movement impairing effects from the Succubus.
- Voidwalker - Increases the Voidwalker's health by 20%, and it's threat generated from spells and attacks by 20% for 20 sec.
- Imp - Increases the Imp's spell critical strike chance by 20% for 30 sec.
- Felhunter - Dispels all magical effects from the Felhunter.
- Fel Guard - Increases the Fel Guard's attack speed by 20% and breaks all stun, snare and movement impairing effects and makes your Fel Guard immune to them. Lasts 15 sec.
Succubus
Because the Succubus is so fragile, the vanish works to keep her alive just a little while longer. It's excellent for PvP despite the fact that she'll really hardly get stunned or snared. However, the free movement after vanish allows you to reposition her better. Note that it is an invisibility effect, and not stealth, although I haven't tested it extensively to see the difference.
Voidwalker
This is great for the times when you need the big blue to tank for you. The problem with it now is that it simply doesn't generate enough threat and although I would like to see that problem fixed baseline, the added threat from Demonic Empowerment coupled with Torment or Suffering works extremely well. The health buff is alright, too, specially for tanking multiple mobs.
Imp
Too bad it's impossible to get this talent and Empowered Imp deep in Destruction. For good reason, too, since it would probably be obscenely strong. On the other hand, a 20% increase to the imp's crits every 30 seconds is phenomenal, even if you just use the imp occasionally. It's a definite rise in DPS and is synergistic with Demonic Pact and Demonic Empathy.
Felhunter
This is the one effect I'm not too happy about, although it works thematically well with the Felhunter. It brings it back to its roots. The Felhunter is an anti-caster pet. It only makes sense that its uh-oh button removes magical effects because it's more than likely that you'll be sending it against a Mage, another Warlock, or even a healer. This effect removes snares, debuffs, fears, and theoretically even a Banish effect even though I haven't tested it. Your puppy will still die to Warriors and Rogues, however...
Fel Guard
Because a Demonologist is highly likely to have the Fel Guard out, this is perhaps the best effect of all. In PvE, the haste is a definite DPS boost (although I would've preferred crit), and the immunity is awesome in PvP. It's almost the equivalent of Bestial Wrath. You'll be using this almost every minute in either situation, although more judiciously in PvP.
Overall not a bad spell, right? Sure, some of the effects could use a few buffs, but to be honest I'm pretty happy with the spell conceptually. It's one talent point for a utility spell that makes our demons more useful (or saves their butt) every minute. Every Demonology Warlock should take it, particularly because there aren't too many active abilities in Demonology.
It's a utility spell that adapts to the situation depending on the pet you have out. The effects make sense, even if they aren't overwhelmingly strong. I think that if you look at all the effects all together, it's pretty powerful. But if you realize that it's only usable by one pet at a time, then it's slightly underpowered for a 31-point talent. Still, it's one of my favorite talents in Demonology right now and once you've learned to use it with your pet, you'll realize it's a talent point well spent.

I think the Felhunter one is pretty lame; mostly because of it's high resistances it's not likely to have many magical effects on it.

I agree on the Felhunter. I would rather see it get something to reduce melee damage to give you a chance when it gets focused on.

Lol. I also was going to post about the felhunter. I agree. It already resists most magical spells anyway and it's special abilities can be used at range. I only see it useful if it gets banished, but that very rarely happens because while they are busy casting banish, you probably have them at least half dead already.
Give it the one succubus has, or let it cut the cooldown of the felhunter's abilities in half for a period of time (20 seconds or so?) or instantly make all its abilities available. (2 spell locks in a row once per minute would be nice! or eat away buffs even faster once a minute)

LOL, yes, that's why I said I wasn't too happy with it.
On the other hand... how many times have you had it feared by a Paladin? =p This removes that, too. I know, it's kind of situational, but pfft. Let's hope it gets buffed somewhat.
Still, it's an awesome talent.

The felhunter one is definitely kind of lame. Banishing is really the only condition I could see it being useful... any other magical effects, I think I'd rather have my Felhunter eat the effect for the free heal...
Unless the talent dispels them all AND heals the Felhunter as if he'd devoured them... which might not be bad in the still-very-rare case where he actually has multiple magic effects on him...
I'd prefer an effect that did something like refresh all dots on the Felhunter's target or something, though maybe that's kind of useless these days too.

Is it me or are Warlocks getting all the love on WoW Insider lately?
I have no problem with it though, because I'm a lock.

It's a poster who said a while back he is covering all the Warlock pets with their Beta abilities and powers before the Xpansion hits. And with an official date, well, he's having to shorten the time length he had to hit them all.

Or even better, if it worked like preparation and reset the cd on devour magic and Spell Lock. Imo that might be a lil OP... but so is preparation so who cares. Much more useful than what it is currently any way you look at it.
Yea, and crit for the felguard would have been much more effective. Because of the new spell pushback mechanics i dont see the haste that great. Because felguards were basically pushback machines and intercerpt bots. But i guess the haste will help kill those shaman totems just a lil faster which will work well for my vs. shaman macro.

The above poster w/ the same idea posted while i was writing mine... sooo uhhh yea, not taking ideas, i think its just something that most locks would love to see instead

What is the cooldown on this ability anyway? Sounds like it is 60 seconds, but wanted to check...
Zach Sep 15th 2008 10:20PM
It's one minute. Pretty awesome, actually.
Lur Sep 15th 2008 10:06PM
I can hear the QQ about the felguard's already... WTF can't CC felguards... locks are so OP. Of course this comes from being ignorant to the fact that the Felguard is much more important to a Demo's DPS and survivability than any other demon is to any other build.
Glad I rerolled from a priest, they getting Christmas sock full of coal this expansion.
Rich Sep 16th 2008 3:01AM
The felguard ability really is just giving the Locks the ability that makes Hunters so evil. Its kinda like Bestial Wrath for FGs... lol

The Felhunter version of the spell used to refresh all the demon's cooldowns initially. Which is epically over powered for PVP and meh for PVE. I had visions of silencing double healer teams and devouring buffs en masse. Oh well, stuck with a meh for PVP and PVE empowerment for the puppy.
