Onyxia attunement to be lifted

Ony was one of the last, great old school attunements required in the game. With it gone, only Black Wing Lair and Molten Core remain as attunement required raids. This is a sad day for those of us that enjoyed the quest chain. A friend of mine and I were going to run this through on his Shaman and my up-and-coming Mage. Apparently we'll have to actually kick ourselves into gear and do it soon.
There is no indication if this change will come with WotLK or with patch 3.0.2. However the King returns in 3.0.2, so I would have to assume the attunement will be lifted then. It should be noted however, that Valnoth did say they would attempt to return the chain some day in the future. But we all know how that can go...
Thanks to Jarred for the tip!

Dude what the hell.. The first time I watched Marshal Windsor stroll through Stormwind knowing he's about to face a dragon was the best moment in my WoW career. I always looked forward to that event because of the attention it brought to stormwind post-BC. People would wonder wtf was going on and tag along. It was awesome, and I'm sad to see it go

With any hope, the questchain will remain for those who wish to complete it. So far, this is the case with all the removed attunements.

Well, at the moment they're completely removing the quest chain. We can only hope that with that fancy new phasing technology they might be able to add it back in someday.
I'm also curious as to how the King's return affects the Missing Diplomat quest chain.

I agree.

That actually drove me to get to 60. I saw it and was like, wow, that is what I want to do. It's one of the big motivators for me and really helped.

Most. Irritating. Chain. In. History.
PeeWee Sep 16th 2008 8:45PM
It didn't become irritating until the bots started farming the Burning Steppes. Before then it was a walk in the mark.
dan Sep 17th 2008 12:44AM
I'm a tank. My girlfriend is a healer. We ran that whole chain for about a month and a half attuning our guildmates. My irritation has nothing to do with bots.
Illirien Sep 17th 2008 11:09AM
Then your irritation has little to do with the chain itself, and more to do with doing something over and over and over. Anything is irritating in that case :)
dan Sep 17th 2008 11:15AM
I think the chain itself is too long and involves too much pogoing around. The repetition only exacerbated that.

Is it gone though? Id think they leave the quest chain in, just like every other attunement process thats been lifted.
This is no great loss, just an easier access to Ony and an optional chain.
Im going to go out on a limb here and say that maybe Blizz has ideas to retune her sometime in wrath for 10/25 man raid content....!
Veras Gunn Sep 16th 2008 8:28PM
Oh great, I just get attuned for it, and they remove the requirement for it.
Jaisin Sep 16th 2008 10:13PM
I hear you, I just went through the pain of getting my amulet. Through Emberstrife bugging out TWO TIMES and making me have to do the Mind Control part of the chain again, it was horrible.
jon Sep 16th 2008 8:30PM
/cry This was (is) my favorite quest chain in the game.
Raaj Sep 16th 2008 8:32PM
You guys are talking like they're removing the chain. With past attunement removals, the quests still exist, you just don't have to do them. Is there any indication that this one will be any different?
Raaj Sep 16th 2008 8:33PM
Note to self: Read source.

Truly one of the best quest chains in the game. It really gave WoW an epic feeling. Imagine that one of the NPCs that you had been interacting with and around for _sixty_ levels turns out to be one of the most powerful and evil beings in Azeroth. Definitely sent chills down my spine the first time I did it.
VSUReaper Sep 16th 2008 8:37PM
Everyone always talks about how great this attunement was, and all of those people play Alliance characters. What was it like for the Horde? Was this attunement fun for the Horde or just annoying? I'm trying to decide if I should pull myself away from the beta for the afternoon and do this attunement before it becomes meaningless.
kabshiel Sep 16th 2008 8:42PM
The Horde version is OK. It's not really that interesting and in the old days it was really annoying. Now it's just a really long quest chain that requires you to go back and forth to Desolace a lot.
