Patch 3.1 and beyond, a look at what's after Wrath
Looking for the latest patch 3.1 information? Check out WoW Insider's Guide to Patch 3.1!
We've got the hot pre-Wrath patch 3.0.2 coming soon, with the much-anticipated Wrath of the Lich King storming along in mid-November. But the game doesn't stop there. Blizzard's already planning for the time after Arthas stomps his kicky, icy little boots into Northrend. The big-MVP-on-campus Schwick has already started building his "what we know" thread for 3.1 and beyond.
I'll grant that what we know right now is a little slim, and doesn't include the myriad of buffs and nerfs we should expect after the expansion. Schwick -- and WoW Insider -- will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
For now, after Wrath releases, we're already expecting:
-
Icecrown Citadel -- A raid instance for groups to explore, this will be released after Wrath's initial live date.
-
A built-in Outfitter -- The ability to organize your gear in convenient, logical, and easy-to-swap functionality. Now you're in tank gear, and then one second later, now you're in DPS gear!
-
Guild Bank upgrades -- Better controls and organization for the often-ninja-plagued Guild banks.
-
Personally customized tabards -- The ability to create your own, personal tabard.
Of course, there's a lot of stuff on the "to-do" list that isn't necessarily going to be put in 3.1. Dance studios, cross-server chat functions, and account-based achievements, to name a few.

Account wide achievements FTW.

Account-wide achievements? I wonder if there's something for having a max-level character of each class; hopefully it would unlock a title indicative of the significant time investment.

"That which has no life"

"You have received the Get A Life Achievement."

ah well no guild houses then :(
Juliah Sep 17th 2008 10:48AM
DeadlyFrenchman, I am disappointed about that as well.
TonyMotorola, housing may be useless to you. PvP could be eliminated from the game tomorrow and I wouldn't care. Different people get different things out of the game.
As a roleplayer, it would be of real value to be able to have a guild house for meetings. My guild meets every Thursday, and we're always having curious, non-roleplaying cheeseballs running through and interrupting the meetings. I miss the housing that Dark Age of Camelot had. (I know some cry that it destroyed the cities, but it could be implemented slightly differently in WoW: Stormwind isn't empty just because Shatt exists because of the AH there and trainers.) It was also a lot of fun to decorate it with trophies as a record of activities the guild had done together.
Anyway, housing could have actual uses. Heck, it might actually get some people out of Goldshire, and, arguably, that's a benefit to all of us! :)

Hopefully they'll get Account-wide achievements in before StarCraft 2 comes out, since they're supposed to link together all the Blizzard games, and it's already been said SC2 will have achievements.

The own personal tabard intrigues me. I like it.

TWO talent specs...?
Kristy Sep 16th 2008 8:34PM
"Cross-server chat" eh? I haven't heard of that before. That'd be cool though. I have a cousin that I'd love to be able to talk to.
Lemons Sep 16th 2008 9:36PM
oh god no, imagine a cross server trade channel...the horror...
Schadenfreude Sep 16th 2008 11:45PM
That was the old LFG channel. It was fun, actually, and if I got sick of it I'd just /leave 4.
Swiss Sep 17th 2008 9:35AM
Cross-server chat is likely different than what you are thinking which would be cross-realm chat. I'm guessing that they are implementing a global chat channel so that Trade will no longer be spammed with Anal [Insert Ability] and other stupid stuff.
I bet it will be like the old LFG channel we used to have Pre-BC.

World defense?
Crkazow Sep 16th 2008 9:11PM
Dance studio and dual specs come to my mind.
Zakk Sep 16th 2008 11:33PM
Wait, personal tabards? I remember the idea being thrown around on the forums, a blue saying "We'll think about it," and the general consensus of it being kind of a bad idea. Did they confirm it?
Zakk Sep 17th 2008 3:57PM
Oh, I just read the actual post. Schwick said "Blizzard is looking into personal-tabards."
david Sep 16th 2008 11:44PM
i can't believe dance studios won't be coming out with wrath considering that was one of the first things announced. And the barber shop is a nice addition, but still a bit lame considering you can only use hair dos that are already in the game (excluding the mohawk that is). I do like the personal tabards idea, the ones in game arn't very interesting(guild ones anyway.)

I'm pretty sure we will see some sort of leveling acceleration, a la RAF, implemented into the game for everyone. At least to 60.
The RAF bonus is too good to ever let go. I don't think I can level another character without it.
