WotLK: Collector's Edition available for pre-order today
The regular edition of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will be selling for $39.99, and for only $30 more (total of $69.99) you can get the Collector's Edition. You can now legitimately pre-order the Collector's Edition at many retailers across the country and online. My local GameStop up here in Fargo, ND has them available for pre-order as of this morning. However as is standard policy with them, you can only pre-order games by going into the store. It has been my experience that in general you cannot pre-order over the phone, but your mileage may vary.
If you're interested in pre-ordering online, the two major sites that I found to have the C.E. listed are Amazon and GameStop. Other sites, such as Best Buy, don't have the C.E. up yet. Remember however, if you want to get the game at midnight you'll most likely need to deal with a local retailer.
We covered the contents of the Collector's Edition yesterday, but just as a refresher, here are the major highlight:
- A 208-page LK art book
- Frosty, the baby frost wyrm (non-combat pet)
- A DVD with developer interviews, commentary on the cinematic, etc.
- Soundtrack CD
- Mouse pad with a map of Northrend
- Two starter decks for the CCG, and two exclusive cards

Yup - just ordered mine from Amazon. Of course, I'd asked them to notify me when it came up for pre-order; but they didn't, as usual.
Stupid Amazon.
Oh well, at least I have some Frosty. :-p

"You can now legitimately pre-order the Collector's Edition at many retailers across the country and online"
Are you saying that when they were on-sale yesterday morning from Gamestop, shortly after the release date was revealed, this was not legitimate?
Adam Holisky Sep 16th 2008 11:17AM
As it's been explained to me by managers of stores that deal in pre-ordering games, they cannot sell things they have not gotten confirmation of yet.
Even though we all knew a Collector's Edition would come out, and that it would available the same time as the vanilla version, stores has yet to be given it's UPC/SKU/whatever.
The store you ordered from probably just jumped the gun, and I doubt you are alone. =)

I went to Gamestop last night and they could not yet put me down for the CE pre-order. They said to try again today.
Darkharmony Sep 16th 2008 12:58PM
Adam actually he's refering to the fact that gamestop.com and ebgames.com had the CE up for preorder yesterday morning. Either way everyone can go preorder now so that's what matters the most. :)

I pre-ordered my CE's yesterday afternoon from Gamestop's website with no trouble. I had the option of in-store pickup, but I"m not doing the midnight release deal so I'll wait for Fedex to deliver it to my door in the morning
Randolyn Sep 16th 2008 11:16AM
From what I see, Gamestop is not allowing in-store pickup of the CE, and is charging an extra $15 for shipping.
TotalBiscuit Sep 16th 2008 11:33AM
That's totally wrong. If you're buying it online, no, they do not allow in-store pickup. That's because they don't work that way. Their brick and mortar stores are separate operations entirely. If you want to pre-order, go into a store and do it, simple as that.

I was able to preorder my CE from Gamestop and do in store pickup without any problems.
The option is kind of "hidden" though.

$17+tax next day delivery at Gamestop vs. $8+notax next day delivery at Amazon.
/ty Amazon

When I checked Amazon this AM, one day shipping get you the CE on the following Monday the 17th.

I PO'd my yesterday from Gamestop *before* the additional $14.99 was tacked onto the front page... I called GS's 800# and spoke to a "Gary" who informed me that the site "glitched" and didn't calculate in the additional $14.99 handling fee into people who ordered it before a certain time yesterday (I was one of those people)... I was told that no $14.99 will be tacked on! $69.99 + tax & $9.99 shipping to get it to me on street date isn't too bad! For that, GS gets my money.
nate Sep 16th 2008 11:50AM
Getting it on the 17th is fine, as that's the release date. Not sure of your point, 'nin'.
number9 Sep 16th 2008 12:00PM
The release date is the 13th, 'Nate', not the 17th.
Wistin Sep 16th 2008 11:26AM
You can pre-order the normal version from ebgames. They've pasted big red text claiming if you order before November 12, they will ship it out so you get it on street release date. If it doesn't, you get the delivery charge refunded.
I'm not sure what kind of loopholes they'll use to get out of that. They don't take the wrap for you not being home to accept delivery.
As for midnight pickup. I don't need it at midnight. I'll be asleep then. November 13th is a Thursday. I'll be working the next day anyway.
Elgrend Sep 16th 2008 11:27AM
I'd prefer to order from Amazon, but the description they give for the CE states for WinXP/Vista and that it comes on CD-ROM. It's probably just bad information that was hastily put up by Amazon, but I'll refrain from ordering from them until it gets fixed.
Elgrend Sep 16th 2008 11:34AM
They recently (within the last five minutes) changed it to DVD-ROM, although it still says for XP/Vista, although I'm sure it's for both.
Hokuto Sep 16th 2008 11:28AM
I just *tried* to pre-order it, but as always people down here (in south america) are left out in the dark, with exceptions of Argentina and Chile that somehow got an official release.
/sigh
Phorx Sep 16th 2008 11:32AM
Anyone see a place to pre-order the CE from in Canada?
