Ask a Beta Tester: Murlocs, mounts, and minimaps

Any word on new flying mounts or anything like that?
A little, but not a lot. We're not seeing a cornucopia of mounts yet. The ones we have seen are pretty cool, though. As I mentioned yesterday in my post on the Obsidian Sanctum, they're running with the design of Zul'Aman and offering mounts as special rewards from completing 'extra challenges' in raid zones.
The Obsidian Sanctum offers up a Black Drake Mount for completing the special challenge in the 10 man version, and it seems you get a Twilight Drake from the 25 man version, but I haven't seen that personally. Either way, these drakes are pretty hard to get, at least at first. They're not quite giving them out for nothing. Other colors of drake mounts have been datamined, but we haven't seen them drop yet.

rigz asked...
Any news on the legendary drops that could be obtained through 40-man Naxx? Is it still possible to get a corrupted Ashbringer or Atiesh?
As far as we know, you are not able to get either of these in Naxxramas. Ashbringer seems to have been approached differently than originally intended (Tirion Fordring has it) and the Corrupted version is just gone. A dev mentioned at one point that they were undecided on what to do with Atiesh, and so far we've seen no sign of it.
dahwedge asked...
I see that Riding Crops and Carrots are going away. Will my Charm of Swift Flight be disappearing as well?
The change hasn't been pushed through yet, but I would assume that is the case, yes. All items like that are going to stop working after level 70. I doubt the Charm of Swift Flight would be any different, though maybe I'll be proven wrong.
Leprakahn asked...
What capital cities outside Dalaran will there be Inscription trainers? I think I remember reading that there will be one in Undercity, but where else?
I believe that every capital city will have an Inscription trainer. It won't be like Jewelcrafting where they hide it away in Burning Crusade only territory. There's a trainer in every capital.
jurandr asked...
Any murlocs in Northrend?
Yes. Ugh. Yes. Not only Murlocs, but their evolutionary cousins the gorlocs as well.
Kaeder asked...
I haven't heard any news of b eing able to show all questgivers on the minimap since the article about it. Is this something that is now available in Beta, or on the PTR? I took a look at the PTR and either I can't find it or it isn't available yet. Any ideas?
I haven't logged onto the PTR yet personally because of the little issue where Wrath beta testers were blocked from the PTR temporarily, but other people have said that it is indeed there on the PTR. Since I can't confirm it, I'll show you where it is in the Beta. If it's on the PTR, it'll be in the same place.

I'm interested in the Low Level Quest tracker. Does this replace other trackers such as Find Herbs or Find Minerals? Or does it stack with other tracking as well?
Harmun Sep 17th 2008 11:46AM
It looks like it replaces the find tracker of minimaps... it's in the same list :(
vlad Sep 17th 2008 11:47AM
yes it does. a bad design imo

I think thats a pretty elegant solution actually. I mean you mostly dont see "oh look a low level quest guy, I'll do that". You are generally specifically looking for low level quests for rep or whatever, so this seems like a nice solution to the problem that can be implemented within the existing maps.
rosencratz Sep 18th 2008 5:42AM
I've got to agree i think it's the best solution.
No one would want this on all the time. It's slightly annoying enough to see that scryer rep switch quest giver whenever i'm in the aldor bank as it is i don't want to see all the old world quests bothering me all the time unless i conciously want them too.
Having it on the mini map means you can flick it on and off without having to go interface options which is ideal and no different than when your hunting for an auctioneer, ammunition vendor or profession trainer.

How unfortunate. Just because I want to do low level quests (for reputation, or for the achievements) hardly means that I would want to stop looking for gathering nodes. It would be just as easy to have a "Show low level quests" check box in the interface options menu. That way those of us who care about low level quests, weather permanently or occasionally could choose to turn it on there without sacrificing skill tracking (or hunter tracking for that matter)

What has happened to jewel slots on Wrath?...alot of the gear i that has been previewed or leaked has maybe 1 but most have no slots for gems...are JC's going to be useless in WoTLK?
Adam Sep 17th 2008 11:36AM
Actually, i was wondering that too, til i saw a (2) socketed cloth piece as a quest reward last night, I'm just a lowly 70 in the starting areas, so i assume they're gonna be scattered here and there throughout northrend. Haven't done any dungeons yet though, so i don't know about those
Mutak Sep 17th 2008 11:45AM
Much like the BC stuff, there isn't a lot of leveling gear with gem slots, but if you look at the lvl 80 pvp and raid gear you'll see plenty of gems.

There has been mention of new flying mounts but since we can't use flying mounts until what was it lvl 74 or 75 and the removal of riding crop etc, has there been any indication of any new ground mounts with increased speed? My apologizes if it has been mentioned previously and I missed it.
Camaris Sep 17th 2008 3:51PM
I don't think there is any increased speed, but there will apparently be mounts that can carry passengers. Datamining has uncovered Polar Bears and Mammoths (=passenger carriers).
Versai Sep 17th 2008 11:24AM
@ swiss yes, it does indeed replace find herbs and minerals track (X). which isn't that much of a big deal since i currently only use it in quest hubs and a select few other places.
Alex Sep 17th 2008 1:37PM
From what ive seen on the ptr you can only get boss kill acheivements by having completed the quest. by doing that blizzard is locking out the acheivements for killing the rage fire casms boss to the alliance and the stockade boss for the horde. any idea if that is going to change in the final build??
Kuulastus Sep 17th 2008 11:23PM
How are we locked out? I only play Horde and I've been inside Stockades more than once in my WoW career.
Auri Sep 17th 2008 7:13PM
From what I understand, just killing a boss will award the achievement when the system goes live; they are only awarding boss kill achievements retroactively if you've completed a quest to kill said boss because that's the only way they've been keeping track.
Alex Sep 18th 2008 11:27AM
what im saying is that if the only to get boss acheivements was to have a quest for it then it would prevent us from getting the acheivement, so if u dont get the acheivement reteoactivly by just having killed the boss with no quest those of us on the horde who have managed to get in the stockades (and killed the boss) will have to go back there and run it again in order to get credit for it.

Do we know if the new 10/25 man Naxxaramas has an attunement? And if so does having the old attunement for the 40 Man Naxx have any effect on getting the new one?
niko Sep 17th 2008 11:44AM
Why would 40-man Naxx attunement have anything to do with the new 10/25-man Naxx?
This is just like the Cenarion Circle/Cenarion Expedition factions... they are SEPARATE. Don't expect any changes with Naxx; besides, the old Naxx isn't there anymore anyways. Old content will be just that: Old content.
I bet there will be some sort of attunement, just like Kara had attunement. I think attunements are great ways to share the story of why you want to go into such a place, as well as thin the ranks of noobs that are sure to want to go, but end up just wiping raids.
Attunements are a good thing (tm).
vlad Sep 17th 2008 11:53AM
blizz has clearly stated several times that the do not want older players to have an advantage over new players when it comes to attunements so that pretty much says NO to your current naxx attunement working.
BenMS Sep 18th 2008 4:41AM
Blizz has pretty much said they want NO attunements apart from needing a certain level of gear to go to a dungeon. It'll be up to the player base to discover that level of gear.
