Breakfast Topic: Are you ready for WAR?

So I'll be sitting on the sidelines and watching my friends try out Warhammer. I think I'll be alright, though. Blizzard recently announced that Wrath of the Lich King will be released on November 13, and to be frank it's more than enough for me. While I would've loved to try out Warhammer Online, I think I'm pretty content with the game I'm playing now. In fact, I don't think I've ever been more excited to play the game. With less than two months to go before Wrath, I think it's a great time for the MMO genre in general. How about you guys? Are you ready for WAR?
| Yes! I'm going to WAR and never looking back! | |
|---|---|
| I've got my subscription to both. I think I'll check it out. | |
| I'm not interested in going to WAR. | |
| I'll wait for a while to see what others say before deciding. | |
| I quit! I don't like MMOs! | |
| Where's World of StarCraft? |

you should have added an option-'my mac is too cool for WAR', as i am in the same boat as you.

Yep, same here. CBA to use Windows.

Same here. They can't expect to compete with WoW without a Mac client. I'm not saying Mac users tip the scales, but right out of the gate they've eliminated part of the WoW audience as potential converts to WAR.

I dual boot OSX and XP on a self-built machine and was interested in Warhammer. But then I saw EA was involved in its development and lost all interest.
After what they did to the Battlefield franchise years ago, I will never purchase another EA game ever again.

Ditto to that... Who releases an MMO-based game these days without a Mac client?

If Blizzard can make a game for both Mac and Windows, why can't other companies? You would think a strategy of "covering all bases" would be an automatic goal for the developers. But watching my partner struggle with her Windows machine and all of its amazingly complex failures and errors just makes me sure that I will never give up my Macs, certainly not for a game.

Zach (and others in the same position), why would you let the Mac platform keep you from any Windows game? I mean, if you have a halfway recent mac, you have an Intel chip under the hood... Dual booting is easy (Apple even supports it for crying out loud) and it opens up the box to all the other Windows games out there.

Now if you have a G4/G5-based Mac, well, I can see that point.... but I play on my Macbook Pro, and it's effin fantastic to have both sides depending on the situation. Certainly I prefer 10.5 over XP/Vista, but for games, as long as I can run it, I'm good.

I'm also a Mac user and would have given Warhammer a chance if it worked on my system. However I just don't feel like purchasing a game that's going to require me to dual boot each time I want to play.
So since Warhammer doesn't care about Mac users, I don't care about Warhammer.

I agree, though I have VMWare, I prefer a native mac game like WoW. Until there is an MMORPG better than WoW that runs on the mac, you are wasting my time.

Same boat here. People have said "Why don't you just dual-boot?" And my answer is "Because I shouldn't have to."
Dual-booting is time-consuming, annoying, and the plain and simple fact is I bought a Mac so that I wouldn't have to use Windows again so long as I shall live.
Macs have an increasingly larger stake in the global desktop market. Approaching 10% at this point. You mean to tell me Mythic doesn't want 10% more customers? That's just outrageously absurd to me.
No WAR for me. WoW is my Hunny Bear.
TotalBiscuit Sep 18th 2008 10:25AM
The Mac is not a influential gaming market, so no, don't expect companies to go out of their way to cater to you. If you're a gamer, you dual-boot, or you own a PC.
joggoms Sep 18th 2008 11:25AM
It's really Windows only? I hadn't realized that, just assumed that it would support Macs as well.
Huh, I guess I'm no longer on the fence about whether to try it or not.
joggoms Sep 18th 2008 11:26AM
@TotalBiscuit
You do realize that with WoW's number of subscribers, they have gone beyond the 'gamer' who owns a PC because he/she is a 'gamer'.
Why ignore this portion of the market, i.e. a huge number of WoW players?
And I don't expect anyone to cater to me. If WoW was Windows only, I would probably bother to dual-boot, assuming I had bothered to ever try it in the beginning of course...something WAR is now missing.

oh you mac fanboi's/girls are too funny.
airwalke Sep 18th 2008 11:45AM
Mac's certainly aren't the majority in the gaming market, but it seems like Blizzard does extra well with their releases because they work on a title until it's actually done, and that they haven't forgotten the Mac base. Laugh all you want at Mac users, but the reason they're so successful on the Mac front is because they actually develop for us, rather than shipping it off to a third party like Aspyr or Macsoft for porting it. It's the main reason Blizzard will always hold a monopoly over the Mac gaming world, until someone else comes along to challenge it.
Oneiroi Sep 18th 2008 6:52PM
While I do love WoW, most of the reason I don't play any other MMORPG is becausel...no one else lets me.
I sometimes have an itching to play City of Villains or Heroes, or Guild Wars, and now especially WAR, but alas.
Ikarus Sep 18th 2008 1:06PM
Mac FTW :p It is really disappointing that a lot of games won't take the time to build a cross platform game like WoW. I would be really interested to know what percentage of WoW users are Mac users
Melf Sep 18th 2008 11:20PM
Yeah, I'm in the "Blizzard respects that more than just PC users play games" category. I can't check out WAR because it's not for Mac. Mythic, L2Hybrid

frankly I am fed up with Wowinsider pushing WAR.
I played it and it lacks the "WOW" feeling, both the game and the general feeling.
Go on, push it further and we will be very grateful you you Wowinsider.
