What many people seem to forget is that Warcraft is a traditional steampunk setting, and has been that way since at least Warcraft 2 (I can't speak for the first game, having not played it).This is a world where you can make a gold mine burst into flames by shooting it with enough arrows (faithfully represented in WoW by having every stone act as an explosive when ground into powder).The laws of physics are different here. Combustion engines are easier to make.
