Spirit beast pet family on Wowhead (Updated)

Over on Mania's Arcania, sharp-eyed commenter Goofball Jones noted an interesting tidbit: there's a new family of pets on Wowhead's WotLK site. Spirit Beasts. What do they look like? No clue yet, but one commenter noted the new skins for cats in Zul'Drak and posted a tantalizing screenshot from Wotlkwiki.info.
Now, I'm not a hunter nor do I play one on TV, but I do note, looking at their abilities, that they appear to have cat family abilities save for replacing Rake with Spirit Strike, an arcane damage ability. While that makes poster Mattias's theory make sense to me that it's one of the cats from Zul'Drak, it's hardly conclusive.
That's pretty much all I know to date. The family exists on Wowhead and has a very similar ability spread to cats. I now await hundreds of hunters running around taming everything that might even remotely be in this family for feedback. Keep an eye on Mania's Arcania as I'm sure news will break there first.
(And thanks to my lovely wife for the tip and encouragement... we'll go with encouragement... to post.)
Updated: Yes, that is a spirit beast. Kudos to Mania and her readers for solving the issue.

Could we perhaps see the return of the Spirit Wolf?
Muldrendyn Sep 18th 2008 11:21PM
Maybe something like a great bear spirit like in Moonglade?

Woot, glad you made a post about the Spirit Beast. I was hoping you guys would. I'm curious about this upcoming, Exotic pet.

New druid travel form skin! Woohoo!
...What?
Oh, who am I kidding... we only get recolored textures. ;)
Nice design though.
Zakk Sep 18th 2008 11:39PM
Hah, I was thinking it was a new Druid form, too.

I doubt it's a cat, considering Blizzard has made each family model completely unique from each other up 'til now, but considering they buffed cats recently literally only "because they were once the most desirable pet" their basis towards felines really wouldn't surprise me to discover that now you can get an exotic version, too.

Could it possibly be the new shaman "pets"?
I know it's asking a lot of Blizz, but come on, make the spirt wolves not suck. Please?

What I am hoping this is, is an imp esque pet, something you can drag into a raid, and have it fire from a distance instead of rushing in melee range an getting hit by every AOE attack and die half way through the fight.

*cough* WotLKWiki.info, not .com*cough*

Well, if that pic is a shot of a tameable Spirit Beast I want one for sure.
Stunning-looking felines with moonfire??
What's not to like ;)
Would be so much cooler than a big fat Devilsaur lumbering around after you.
Gazoo Sep 19th 2008 9:44AM
The Devilsaurs are neither big nor fat, and dont 'lumber' by any stretch of the imagination.
Tamed one a couple days ago... rather than the 'lumbering' one might expect... my devilsaur tittered along more in a style reminiscent of Fred Flintstone bowling than the T-Rex-In-Your-Face style of the monster in Jurassic Park.
/disappointed

I'm not sure which is less desireable...
I don't really fancy a lumbering OR tittering pet!
Thanks for the info though ;)

After a first datamining look at he files, this new pet class is linked to Druids and not Hunters, it like a new travel form.

OMG, you're right! Forget that it's a pet family with hunter pet abilities and diet assigned - because it shares an icon with a druid ability, it MUST be a druid thing!
We'll be taking your Rake icon, BTW, for our cats. Feel free to go out and take a snapshot of an actual rake for it.
Merah Sep 19th 2008 10:01AM
I'm eating a cookie
Ktok Sep 19th 2008 10:04AM
As a Hunter, I hope I can tame that cat... or something with a similar graphic.
As a Druid, I wish my cat form looked like that. In fact, I would pay Blizz an extra $5 a month just to make it happen. Me = tired of having my mouth open 24/7.
Kristy Sep 19th 2008 12:37PM
Don't insult Devilsaurs, stupid.
