Mythic makes one last case for switching from WoW to Warhammer

That said, we'll give Mythic's lead designer Marc Jacobs one more chance to tempt you away from Azeroth, if you so want to be tempted. MTV Multiplayer asked him one last time why WoW players might want to switch over to Warhammer, and he put the case pretty succinctly: Mythic put a focus on "Realm vs. Realm" combat in the game (like faction vs. faction), and that's what you'll find there. WoW, he says, like all MMOs, has an expiration date, so if you're looking for a difference experience, he recommends you give his game a try.
There. Now, odds are that you've probably already made up your mind at this point -- either you're already trampsing around the Age of Reckoning, you're looking to give it a try after Wrath dies down, or you're a die-hard WoW player. Either way, you can't blame Mythic for trying to pull people away (and Blizzard for trying to keep them). Time to let the chips fall where they may.

At the same time!

I will play both... my WAR vs WoW initial opinions: http://karlthepagan.livejournal.com/87721.html
It's harsh... Mythic has some quality problems, but overall it's a really nice game.

I'm going to duel box it both. I'll use my main in WOW and have my keystrokes forward to the character in WARHAMMER.
Could work...

Basic: you're comments about why it is or isn't better then WoW are misinformed and just generally horrible, I won't grace you with comments on your blog.

I had a lot of fun with warhammer so far. This week has been fleshing out the "servers getting hammered" aspect, but really, awesome game for those who liked DAOC and Wow...it combines both basically, in a nice hybrid creative fashion. Not for everyone, but most people do indeed seem to like it.
This guy who posted his LJ review is talking out his ass, however. Complaining about vista problems as if they're warhammer problems.

Getting my wife to play WoW was a major feat. She's now level 70, working on her epic flying mount.
Wrath looks intriguing enough, so I won't fight that battle.

So pretty much he is saying if you want 24/7 pvp then you want War. Maybe it is me, but that has been like their biggest point in the whole time I've seen the release pending, and still all I can tell. Reality its not any different than that. Maybe I just see it differently too.
Ametrine Sep 19th 2008 5:33PM
WAR keeps pushing their PVP aspects...
Kinda implies - to me anyway - that their PVE is pretty assy, so the heavy PVP focus is meant to draw your attention away from that.
Discograndpa Sep 19th 2008 7:38PM
Only Interesting thing about WAR's PvE are the Public Quests... but they're amazing.
WAR is a PvP game, WoW is a PvE game. Argue it all you want, but when's the last time you went to a battleground for fun... not just marks or honor.

It's not continuous never ending pvp (at least on Core servers, I'm not familiar with RvR and how difficult that is to get on with). You opt in for Scenarios (bg), you can join queues wherever you are and it just pops up and takes you in, returning you to where you joined when it's over.
You get experience in the Scenarios (bg), so you can use them to level if you want. I like to pick up quests, go questing (the red areas on the map are areas where your quests are), and wait for Scenarios. Me and my friends group up and we can join as party, and then it returns us to where we were afterwards.
In the Scenarios, you all get put to a similar level, at least health wise. So as level 3 I can hold my own even in damage with the higher level people.
You can bg from level 1 and not feel like you're totally excluded. You don't need amazing gear to play a part. You level while doing it, doing away with "twinks". It really is genuine fun.
I'm not done with WoW yet, but WAR has shown me that I actually do enjoy PvP, I just hardly ever enjoy it in WoW because of the vast gear difference that has to be overcome to make a positive relevant impact. Doing hundreds of hours of AV, grinding rep, just to be able to compete and not die all the time, it really isn't fun and I don't think it's what PvP should *only* be about. Anyone should be able to leap in and have fun, and having billions of PvP epics should only really matter in Arena.

Some of Jacobs' comments struck me as kind of odd:
"And that is simply human nature; we’re not built to do something forever. Whether it’s a job or a relationship or a game, why would you want to do the same thing forever?"
Why would someone want to be in the same relationship forever? Seems like a pretty bad example.
Jason Sep 19th 2008 3:15PM
Yeah. If my wife found out she could leave me I'd be in trouble.
*hides this article carefully*
Slaign Sep 19th 2008 5:49PM
Some people genuinely think that relationships aren't meant to last forever and getting the government involved in love, making contracts that promise to love someone forever, is crazy.
That's not wrong.
Juneau Sep 19th 2008 7:25PM
I don't think relationships should last forever. I'm not saying be a slut, but you should get some variation at least.
ibid Sep 19th 2008 10:56PM
Is it the same relationship after a year, five years, ten? Is it the same game?
