Rounding up Brewfest

Brewfest 2007
Information
- Check out the tips and tricks for completing the quests and earning tickets.
- Read up on how players spent their Brewfest last year, including what they purchased with their tickets and what their overall goals were.
- Check out the reader poll that assessed how much of what people wanted out of Brewfest was actually achieved.
- Check out Brewfest, the movie!
- Last year's Brewfest was pretty buggy from launch, and we had the details, including the buggy quests and Dark Iron raids. While some of their fixes worked well, others were patchy, at best.
Previews
- The mount system from 2007 that allowed players with enough tickets to purchase a [Swift Brewfest Ram] is gone. This year, the Alliance will have access to rams, while the Horde will get a kodo. Needless to say, people are not pleased by the change.
- A new holiday boss is being implemented, with loot that is definitely worth the effort!
- Check out the Grim Guzzler!

Please read http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=10043238782&sid=1 .
You can't buy the mounts anymore, they drop from Coren Direbrew now.
Grimgore Sep 20th 2008 7:35AM
Actually, they've changed their minds about this. Coren now drops both mounts for both factions.

yeah well guess what, alliance can get the kodo, but its a random drop is all

I think its great that you can get a chance to get the ram or the kodo. Anyone know if they wil be useabe for all races? And the drop rate is uncommon not rare.
rosencratz Sep 20th 2008 7:51AM
Technically speaking you can still "buy" the mount but only if you completed the quest last year... not that helpful I know but it meant that I personally could buy up the 60% speed mount to add to my mount collection for the achievement that I don't believe drops from Coren.
rosencratz Sep 20th 2008 7:54AM
it might also be worth mentioning that the Pink Elekk and Wolpertinger quests have gone. The Wolpertinger can be bought however.
Presumably this is due to all those prissy people complaining about Blizzard encouraging alcoholism. :(
The dark iron dwarf invasions are occuring again this year, every half hour but the reward for doing it is only 10 tickets. Handy if you need them. I'm intrigued by this new "Monthly club" business though.
Eternalpayn Sep 20th 2008 11:14AM
Rosen secretly doesn't care about any of this, he just wants to hype people so that we can get them to crowd org and we can spam AOE moves. :P

Yea, the new mount system is pretty bogus.
Have to go to BRD, kill a pretty easy boss and repeat 4 times while hoping you get a lucky roll on a low drop item.
The loot table of the boss should be made larger as well. I think he drops like 7? items and the amount of times you repeat him he drops the same thing often enough.
Maybe its just cause I did it 10 times this morning :P but still. I think we got 3 of the tank trinket.
Solid Squall Sep 20th 2008 8:31AM
I have killed Coren Direbrew 16 times so far. The tanking trinket has dropped 10 of those times. I haven't seen a mount drop yet, and have only seen one trinket that summons a barmaid drop.
Really unhappy with the drop rates. You can't even sell or disenchant the extra trinkets.
Solid Squall Sep 20th 2008 10:49AM
Update: 19 times now. Still no mount.

I confirm alliance can both get and use the kodo, and the droprate is pretty good, easy boss and the other drops are 41 BoJ equivalent trinkets!!!

This is messed up...
My main that got the Swift Brewfest Ram last year can go back and buy the regular ram for 10 tokens now. That's good for working on the 75 mount achievement.
But my alt was lv 40 last year and I figured the lv 40 ram would be wasted because I wouldn't use it ever once I hit 70. Figured I'd just get it this year (back then). So even though I participated in Brewfest last year and got a full set of clothes among other things, I can't buy the ram now.... ARRGGG!
And the thought of having to run BRD over and over to get the Kodo on my main is annoying enough... I was looking forward to all the brewfest dailies and buying Kodos for 3 toons!
And the dailies... Sheesh! Could they have dumbed them down any further?! There's no skill whatsover needed for the brewrun... (FYI - There's less buckets of apples on the track but one just beyond the barrel pickup now. So you can still maintain full speed using the 3 buckets that are there.) But I'm guessing this is a once a day event now and not every 12 hours.. And all you have to do is get 3 barrels! I loved getting extended time last year for each dropoff and being able to earn bonus tickets for actually doing well.
I've been looking forward to Brewfest for months now. Yes, seriously, months!! But these changes are ridiculous, and the daily quests have lost their appeal. Thanks Bliz for ruining my favorite holiday.
Screech Sep 20th 2008 8:54AM
Regarding the extra time, after doing the initial 3 barrel quest you can talk to the goblin again and do it as many times as you can as long as the ram lasts.
Gnimtrov Sep 20th 2008 9:11AM
The repeatable run is still there, just the 3-barrel run is needed to open it up. There's still 4 apple barrels, too.
I don't mind killing a boss for an epic drop.
And they brought back the Dark Iron Invasion.
Why so grouchy?
Grimgore Sep 20th 2008 9:14AM
The regular ram is actually 10 gold, not 10 tokens. The epic ram is 100 gold. You can buy them in this fashion only if you got a mount from last years event. The two rams and the Wolpertinger pet are the only Brewfest-related items (not counting mugs of beer and food) that cost actual gold. Everything else (brewfest keg, brewfest clothing, the beer googles, etc) require you to turn in tokens.
Screech Sep 20th 2008 8:55AM
Alas, I forgot something...
30 seconds is added for each barrel.
Elmo Sep 20th 2008 9:02AM
Actually I'm glad I have a chance at the Kodo now.
still I'd rather get it from doing dailies and beeing guaranteed to get it than having a rare drop and then needing a lucky roll on which you have 5 chances per day...
Abbadon Sep 20th 2008 9:47AM
Yea... as the guy doesn't have a question mark on his head, and the additional beer run didn't count against the daily limit, I'm guessing this is still a 12 hour deal.
And I'm grouchy because of the last minute changes... I accepted that the Ram was gone for Horde, and I was prepared to run the hell outta these quests to buy the Kodo for 3 toons.
I can accept the last minute change to make both mounts available to both factions via drop as that is pretty fair to everyone going forward. I just hate dealing with droprates as my personal record is 1 new item every 111 hours of raiding this year. (approximately 37 weeks x 3 days a week x 3 hours a night / 3 item upgrades) However, I have every badge item under the sun. I’m just used to putting in the time and effort to get things (reputation, quests, badges, etc…) and not having things fall out of the sky in the form of a boss drop.
Overall, I'm just really aggravated that some people can get buy the Ram while my alt can't buy one now just because I chose to pass up the lv 40 ram last year knowing I'd never use it once the alt reached 70. However, the alt is sporting a full set of holiday clothes. IMO, if they were going to reward players for participation last year, they should have based it off the ownership of the Yellow Brewfest Stein or Wolpertinger's Tankard and not the ownership of one of the Rams.
We can still earn a crapload of tickets, but there are no big ticket items to buy at all. On the one side, this will save me a lot of time not having to do all these quests over and over every day across 3 toons. Nope, now I can invest the same amount of time in BRD where instead of a guaranteed chance of being rewarded a mount (via tokens), I’m at the mercy of the dice rolling gods and will likely come away empty handed when all is said and done in two weeks.
Abbadon Sep 20th 2008 5:47PM
So for my first day's attempt....
Smoking pipe x3 (that no one needed)
Teleporter / remote x1 (dropped with a pipe)
Brewmaid x1
And a lying bastard that said he had the quest but was actually there for his 6-9th times, 11th-14th times, who knows... The point is that we only got to kill him 4 times and not 5.
So again, thanks Bliz for making this a frustrating experience reliant upon drop rates and the integrity of other players as compared to a reward for one's own time and effort.
