Engineering motorcycles to be BoE

Well, it looks like we were wrong; CM Valnoth has confirmed that the new Engineering-made ground mount for Wrath is going to be Bind on Equip, so I'd advise making friends with a good Engineer sometime soon (by the way, don't miss Jaylynn's #68 comment on the next page of the thread). We're not sure how expensive the mats are going to be once Wrath goes live, although the player I spoke to estimated it would be less than the current cost of a Turbo-Charged Flying Machine (though quite likely to be more expensive before the Northrend-fueled economy settles somewhat). Daniel Whitcomb's also observed it's likely to remain BoE as having one of these babies is linked to the achievement Get to the Choppa!, so with any luck Engineering is going to be a somewhat more lucrative profession in the expansion.

that is SEXY

The engineering flying mounts are BoE (at least the baseline model) as well.
The question is ... will it require engineering to use it?
Azri Sep 20th 2008 2:13PM
Apparently not.
Xino Sep 20th 2008 2:24PM
Nope the blue basically said you wont need engineering to use them.
Amaxe Sep 20th 2008 3:22PM
Nice. We want!
I think my Draenei Shaman would look cool on a motorcycle with her chain on.
Allison Robert Sep 20th 2008 6:46PM
Nope, it looks like it's a free-and-clear BoE piece, so Engineers can make them purely to sell if they like. With that said, the materials cost may (or may not) wind up making it a contract-type job.

i love engineering, this is my favourite mount EVER!
Sean Sep 20th 2008 2:24PM
No, you don't need to be an engineer to own or ride one.
Ivellios Sep 20th 2008 2:25PM
Yeah like Kaizen said, the big thing is will it require some sort of Enginieering skill level to use it. I'm guessing that it will.
Realistically (or as realistic as a motercycle in WoW can be) if you are an Herbalist/Alchemist or something like that, how would your character be able to hop on a motercycle and know how to work the mechanics and stuff?
TotalBiscuit Sep 20th 2008 2:27PM
Which is fine, because as a trade-skill, engineering comes in dead last for possibly profit opportunities. Particularly with the TBC, the focus seems to have shifted from 'trade'-skill to 'craft some stuff for yourself'-skill, and imho, daily quests should not be the only viable way to make money.
Nick S Sep 20th 2008 2:43PM
Amen, brother. Now there are two ways to make gold as an engineer! Mote-sucking and motorcycle-making.
dpak Sep 22nd 2008 12:36PM
Profit?
You mean when someone in trade says: have mats, will tip 2g!!!!
jaladin Sep 20th 2008 4:09PM
Won't be profitable. Just means that people will collect the mats and expect engineers to make them for a 10G tip (if that).
Engineers should band together and refuse to craft these for non-engineers for mats + tip.
The one thing we engineers had was that the best toys we made like this were for us alone. It was what made it worth spending the thousands in gold we spent to level this profitless profession. This isn't going to make it profitable, its only going to cheapen the profession.

"Engineers should band together and refuse to craft these for non-engineers for mats + tip."
Right, because clicking that "create motorcycle" button is such hard work, you deserve EXTRA gold just for that.
Welcome to every other kind of crafting that exists. Besides, you can always farm the mats yourself, craft it, and sell it at a premium. People will pay extra for not having to farm the mats and find a crafter.
But that requires work and, if I'm understanding the gist of your QQ correctly, you were aiming to get more gold for no more work.
Welcome to crafting.
TotalBiscuit Sep 21st 2008 1:03PM
Rather ironic that you're concentrating on the Actus Reus there mensrea :>
Fact is, the crafting fee takes into account the work that has been done up to that point in order to craft, the gold spent in order to level your skill, and any gold or additional effort required to acquire the recipe in question. It is not just 'clicking a button', and that retarded attitude is a problem within the WoW community.

World of Warcraft's look and feel just got shit on and tossed out the fucking window.
Go ahead and toss in trucks, fighter jets and fucking stealth fighter while we're at it.
Oh, and everyone should just get a free guitar the next time their rockband plays. The kids are into guitars and face melting, aren't they?

Haha yeah i kinda agree, makes me wonder what the RP community will make of it. Is it considered OOC to turn up to a medieval feast on your chopper?
Stormtamer Sep 20th 2008 2:59PM
Im sorry, if you think this steam punk type bike is ruining the look and feel of World of Warcraft, i think you might of been missing most of the stuff that was in the original game.
Flying machines, Steam tanks, Goblin shredders and Mechanostriders have been in since launch.
Aswell as things like those and 'worse' in the original Warcraft games and in WoW since.
So i dont think, whats basically a mechanical/goblin rocket fuel powered pair of wheels, is that bad.
Eternalpayn Sep 20th 2008 3:22PM
The RP people for the most part enjoy it; It's part of Warcraft's lore, after all.
WyrmKing Sep 20th 2008 3:45PM
Before you nerdrage, know your fucking lore first. Thanks.
Technology like this have been part of Warcraft since Warcraft II.
