PvE to PvP transfer impact
Since PvE to PvP transfer option became available, I've kept a close eye on my own realm to see if there'd be any discernible change to transfer patterns both on and off. As far as I can tell -- no. I've seen a few people transfer off but there doesn't seem to be any more so than usual. Only a few players did so purely for the purpose of PvPing on a different battlegroup, and most of them, like Zach Yonzon, had previously been PvP-realm transfers or rerolls anyway. The flood of high-level PvE to PvP transfers gloomily predicted by many doesn't seem to have materialized. People who'd rather play on a PvE realm are doing just that, and most of the people who'd rather play on a PvP realm were already there (never saw that one coming, eh?). I thought at the time that Blizzard's decision would probably have its biggest impact, not on PvP players, but on PvE raiders who had previously been restricted to recruiting PvP-to-PvP, PvE-to-PvE or (much less commonly) PvP-to-PvE only. If you've ever been in a raiding guild which found great recruits from the "wrong" kind of realm, you're probably familiar with what a headache that was.
I play on a medium population PvE realm that launched when Burning Crusade hit. Since we're not really at the cutting edge of either PvE or PvP content as a result, mine is probably a bad sample size as we're not a hotbed of transfers either way. So, I'm not sure if my own experience is representative. If you're playing on a medium-to-high population realm, either PvE or PvP, are you noticing any difference to the traffic patterns, on or off? If you're on a low-population realm, has your situation improved or worsened?

Just want to ask will there be any new realms coming out in US when wrath comes out?
Allison Robert Sep 21st 2008 4:20PM
There hasn't been any announcement of that (as far as I'm aware); I assume it'll depend on the number of new (or returning) players Blizzard can realistically expect to attract and retain. They got a nice bump when BC hit but I don't know what they're anticipating for Wrath.

I sure hope not. There are too many dead servers right now to create new ones. Please save Azshara. I have a good guild there and need people to bolster the economy and grouping.

I'm on Hydraxis, also one that opened with BC, and I've not noticed much impact from the change either.
Feeniks Sep 21st 2008 10:29PM
Yeah, from Hydraxis as well, and it's still the same old trolls failing at raids. D:

It materialized on Mal'ganis. Made it unplayable. 30-minute queue with up to 3000ms latency during primetime.

Obviously.
At this point, considering how the game has been going it was clear that nothing horrible was going to happen.
" PVEers on mah PVP servar beein carebear noobs".
Meh, just alarmism from those that enjoy taking joy away from others.
A very common type of bad people that plague WOW.

people, contrary to the prevailing view, aren't really interested in transferring from pve to pvp? for the people that initially rolled on pve there is not much appeal to going pvp.
i mean can you tell me what the appeal would be?
Gareth Sep 22nd 2008 4:48AM
AutumnBringer thanks, your sarcastic humour was great and actually reminded me of a time when I rolled a new paladin on a pvp realm and got challenged to duel at level 1 by a level 3.
Of course I couldn't be bothered, but that didn't then stop the abuse comments afterwards, first guy to get on my fresh new ignore list ;)

Just curious where this information is gathered from, other than you asking your friends if they know anyone who transfered. What site analyzes these transfer patterns that you've kept such a close eye on?

I agree it sounds like this person isn't really in the position to tell.
In my experience most of the transfers so far are the alts that people abandoned on PVE servers a while ago to play on pvp, so those players the pve'ers wont notice the loss of anyway. They might notice more of a difference when they go to try and raid in Wrath
Allison Robert Sep 21st 2008 4:26PM
I'm sorry, that was probably a little misleading. The statement quoted is a reference to the number of (to my mind, sensationalistic) forum threads that popped up after the PvE-to-PvP announcement was made. A number of pessimistic players predicted that PvP servers would be swamped by PvE transfers already at 70 who wanted more world PvP without having had to level on a PvP server. While I don't *think* that's happened based on anecdotal evidence (I know, shaky) and what little information I can get from watching WarcraftRealms.com, it's very hard to tell, hence the question to people playing on realms more likely to be affected by the transfers.

I'm definitely not. Hence the last paragraph of the post. :)

Yeah, those PvE scum. I mean, I'm hardcore, I only do PvP, that's how it should be if you're a true PvPer - don't do anything to associate yourself with those carebear pansy PvE scum of the earth.
Sure, life is rough for PvPing at level 1, but I am the hardest of core there is and I will never do PvE.
