@ At TanglebonesTBH your synopsis of Tolkien is,imo, horribly and completely incorrect. We KNOW from historic fact the Hobbit was actually a fairy story he MADE UP for his children as a bedtime story. LOTR he made several years later, after a certain WAR. He wanted to incorperate his personal experiences (illuminating the true horror of war) into a social commentary, and hence the LOTR was born. I cannot see any sense in maligning his intent to say he was against technological revolution, esp as at that time, Britain was one (if not THE) leader in technologic innovation at the time, and he was based right in the middle of it (the locations in Middle earth are also real ones, and paritys can be made solely on those, but without any real evidence). Similarly all i see is YOUR views being read into it. Not you 'analysing' logically with research into the authors motivations and views. All i can say is assumption certainly make an ass out of people, and your half baked ideas are neither illuminating nor accurate.Strangely enough, even though i completely disagree with your 'example' i do agree with your pragmatic view mostly. I personally would TRY to get the GL to 'see the error of his ways', but if it is rebuffed (as i would fully expect it to be), removing the annoyance without causing long term effects on my life (E: or RL that is) is the sensible and normal course
