Ask a Beta Tester: Championing clarification, raiding, and more

It only counts towards the 'big four' of Northrend as far as I can see. Those reputations are: The Kirin Tor, The Argent Crusade, The Knights of the Ebon Blade, and the Wyrmrest Accord. You should be able to get really, really high reputation with the Valiance Expedition/Warsong Offensive just through questing, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Tabard for them soon, too. The little people like the Kalu'ak are, so far, not included in this system.

Bhubba asked a pair of questions...
Are there any items similar to "Everlasting Underspore Frond"? It was immensely helpful while leveling in Outland, and I was hoping for another version, or one at level 80 (the Frond isn't as helpful at 70 as it was leveling).
I haven't seen anything like this so far, no. If it's any consolation, pretty much everything that you could count as an animal in Northrend has a chance to drop some meat that you can cook. So skill up your Cooking, and you'll have a much easier time on the food side of things!
With the change to mounts and pets, once you "train" them, do they tell you if you already have learned them, such as with other similar items? God forbid in my quest to get all the mounts I can, I waste gold buying ones I already have.
Yes, the item tooltips will say "Already known" or something along those lines on them in red text.
Culhag asked...
I plan on getting the "Leading the Cavalry" achievement sooner or later, and for that I may level my faction cities to exalted. Do we get any significant amount of reputation with them while leveling in WotLK? Or should I start now, before the rush on runecloth for the titles?
Start grinding out that rep. I haven't seen any gains with capital cities in Northrend yet. Cenarion Expedition is the only old rep I've seen gains towards, as a commenter mentioned, due to DEHTA. Start turning in Runecloth and running Alterac Valley. You'll need it.

I have a question- and this is probably the wrong place to put this but... Is the skill-level necessary to start in WoTLK going to be the next step up from the skill-level necessary to beat the last run, i.e Sunwell? To dumb it down so even I dont get confused: will you be able to start WoTLK in TBC greens or are you going to need to get all the top tier stuff just to stay alive?
The first Northrend dungeons can be run in greens, yep. You don't need to have done Sunwell to be useful in Northrend. However, if you have done Sunwell, a lot of things are going to be dramatically easier. Even if your gear is somehow below what the opening dungeons are meant for, you can run some Northrend quests and the quest rewards will bring you up to speed.
Bean asked...
I had a question about the new mana regen mechanics. Does the Replenishment buff stack? As in, if you have a group with a SPriest and a Survival Hunter, and Both activate it at the same time, do you get a stacking buff at all? Two unique buffs? Do they stack at all?
Replenishment doesn't stack at all. If multiple people are using Replenishment, the buffs would just overwrite eachother as things trigger it.
Muddy asked...
I'm wondering about raid content progression. Are most guilds planning to split teams and gear up in 10-man versions or does it seem feasible to go straight to the 25-man version?
You can start out in 25-man content once you're raid level, but it's a bit more gear demanding. You can start 10-man raids pretty darn quick after you hit level 80, but the 25s will require more time spent gearing up in normal dungeons and heroics as far as I can tell. It's only a difference of waiting a week or two more, not that big of a deal. You don't need to do any 10-man content before starting 25-man content if you don't want to do that. A lot of guilds seem to be planning to do both to speed up gearing themselves up, but it's not a mandatory thing.

1. is there going to a difference in the number of badges the same boss drops in the 10 man and the 25 man?
2. will you be saved to a raid in the 10 man and not be able to do the 25 man that week? it seems like a 25 man geared toon could help the guild in the 10 if its a slow week or some of the raid members have a rl issue.
onetrueping Sep 23rd 2008 3:47PM
1. I wouldn't imagine so, since the badges are visible only to those who pick them up. The gear's higher quality, though, so that should be enough.
2. It was stated by blues at some point that yes, you could run the 10 and 25 version of the same raid in the same week.

I believe the difference in badges is in the TYPE of badge they drop.
Siha Sep 23rd 2008 4:17PM
In WotLK, Heroic bosses and 10-man bosses drop one kind of badge; 25-man bosses drop a different kind of badge that buys higher-level gear. I don't know how many each drop, but you can't gear up in 25-man level gear just from running heroics and 10-mans.

With all the things for Survival hunters a few blogs are saying it looks interesting, has anyone actually given it a go raiding? If so does it matter that Expose Weakness got nerfed, do groups still want a Survival hunter or two?
Robert M Sep 23rd 2008 3:23PM
I know BRK has talked about this expansion being about the hybrid hunter, and that he could see many hunters not ever taking the 51 point talent. I'm curious to see the builds of hunters as everyone progresses through Northrend.
I am also curious about the survivalist hunter. With so many classes getting forms of CC, the need for better holding traps seems like overkill. The imminent rise of the retadin with their mana battery mechanic and those shadow priests who dont like to heal makes me think that most guilds will depend on their hunters to bring all out dps, leaving the survivalist hunter as a forgotten spec.
Xino Sep 23rd 2008 6:11PM
As of the last 2 builds the SV hunter is doing the best dps out of any spec and will scale better if gear stays the way it is (a bunch of haste no hit)

What dungeons are "the big four" tied to? For that matter, what rep does each dungeon/raid give?(I havn't been able to find this out anywhere else)
I would assume Nexus/Occulus/Eye of Eternity would give Wyrmrest rep, and Violet Hold would give Kirin Tor rep... Perhaps Naxx giving Argent Crusade or Ebon Hold rep... but, there are a LOT of other reps out there...
Yalina Sep 23rd 2008 3:00PM
I think I missed something along the way. Why should I be running AV for faction cities rep?
Nikkodemus Sep 23rd 2008 3:27PM
I think it was meant as the means to get the Alterac Valley specific mount?
Doffencrag Sep 23rd 2008 3:29PM
You get Horde/Alliance rep for turning in stuff (armor scraps, flesh, medals, etc.).
Aaron Sep 23rd 2008 3:32PM
If you loot the blood, flesh, etc, off of NPCs and other factions bodies, you can then turn them into the NPCs in your base to help bolster your teams armor, summon extra NPCs, etc
When turning these in they give a 75 (apx) rep for Ogrimarr and 19 (apx) for Undercity/Thunder Bluff, etc
If you dont mind defending/collecting, its an easy way to grind rep with the main factions.
David Sep 23rd 2008 3:32PM
The repeatable quests in AV (turning in Storm Crystals and Frostwolf Hides) give you a tiny amount of city faction rep. If your AV match lasts long enough, and you loot and turn them in before the match ends (they are deleted from inventory after the match ends) you can get a good amount of rep (several hundred).
A better way to grind city faction rep is to do lowbie quests, starting with the starting areas and moving up through the early zones. I can't say this with 100% accuracy, but my experience has been that the easier a zone is, the more rep it will give (Elywnn Forest seems to give more rep than Redridge which gives more rep than Duskwood). I'm currently 2k rep away from exalted with gnomer which will make me exalted with all the city factions.

After learning to summon a mini-pet, do you lose the 'container'? From what I saw of the beta you can keep it, but does that mean I can, say, send my firefly to all my alts and sell it on the AH again after using it? That would be rather devastating for the rarity for a lot of pets...
Phil Sep 23rd 2008 3:24PM
I want to say I remember somewhere that Non-Combat pets are going to be Bind on Account items. So while you could send it around to your alts you could not re-sell it in the AH after being done with it. I also may be completely wrong hear so take that into account as well.
Suzaku Sep 23rd 2008 6:00PM
The items are destroyed after learning them, or at least, that's supposed to be the case with the vast majority of pets and mounts. Some of them are not destroyed upon using them, which I understand is a bug.
Dave Sep 23rd 2008 3:08PM
Any more details on Blizz's Calendar UI? Will we be able to schedule and manage guild-only events automatically, or will we have to be selective in only sending out invites to guildies? What about class/role limits, etc?
Yeng Sep 23rd 2008 3:25PM
Speaking of the 10-man/25-man raids and gearing up through them, do the 2 versions share the same raid ID? Or can you run both of them within a reset?
Vektorix Sep 23rd 2008 3:30PM
Everything I have seen indicates that the 10-person and 25-person instances will be separate raid IDs, so you can run each one within the space of a reset.
Eternalpayn Sep 24th 2008 7:59AM
Better yet, do they give the same rep? Because at first one would think so, but then they would be giving the same rep rewards...
