Ask a Beta Tester: Raids, rare mobs, and more raids

Robert M asked a pair of questions...
Is there going to a difference in the number of badges the same boss drops in the 10 man and the 25 man?
There isn't a difference in the number, no. However, there is a difference in the type of badge. The 10 and 25 man loot is tiered, and the 10 and 25 man badge loot is tiered in a similar way. The badge loot you can get from grinding 10-mans is not the same as grinding 25-mans.
Will you be saved to a raid in the 10 man and not be able to do the 25 man that week? it seems like a 25 man geared toon could help the guild in the 10 if its a slow week or some of the raid members have a RL issue.
The 10 and 25 man raids have separate raid IDs, so doing them both in one week won't be an issue.

After learning to summon a mini-pet, do you lose the 'container'? From what I saw of the beta you can keep it, but does that mean I can, say, send my firefly to all my alts and sell it on the AH again after using it? That would be rather devastating for the rarity for a lot of pets...
As far as I've seen, it consumes the item. All of my pets were consumed when I learned them, and I just purchased a Ghostly Skull from the Dalaran sewers to test it out. It definitely consumed the item. Maybe there are specific pets that are bugged right now, and aren't being consumed? If that's the case, they'll be fixed if they haven't been already.
Agent StanSmith asked...
Are there going to be more rare mobs in Northrend? As a rare-hunter, I was kind of disappointed by the sparseness of rare mobs in the outlands, and I would really hope wrath returns to the variety available in the old world.
I haven't seen any yet in Northrend, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're not there. It just means I haven't seen any. That's a real non-answer, I know, but it's all I've got. The Burning Crusade had quite a few rares, around 20 of them I believe, they were just hard to find. In all of my time playing BC, I think I've killed 7 of them, and a few of them multiple times. I remember my first time seeing Kraator and going, "Oh. My. God. WTF is that!? Holy crap it's huge! ...I must kill it!"

Seeing as there are now lots of 10man raids, does this mean the end of heroics? Are there still heroics in WotLK and do you have to run them to gear for the first 10man?
There are still Heroics, and they're pretty fun. Some of them have 'extras' to lure you in, too. Extra bosses, extra quests. There's loot, sure, but there are those other things to still lure you in even if you raid.
You probably don't need to do a whole lot of these to start 10 man raiding, but you should do some. For 25 man raiding, yes, you definitely want to be able to quickly and easily clear Heroics before trying your hand at a raid.
Daniel asked...
What is the WotLK raid ladder at the moment?
So far it looks like Naxx/Obsidian Sanctum, then Eye of Eternity/Ulduar (when Ulduar is implemented). Whatever is implemented later will naturally come after that.

"The badge loot you can get from grinding 10-mans is not the same as grinding 25-mans."
Whoa....the comments on wowhead contradicts this statement. They are saying that the Emblem of Valor drops from 25man raids and Emblem of Heroism drops from 10man raids and heroic 5man dungeons.

I had the links flip flopped on accident, but the point stands. It's not the number of badges that's different, it's the type.
Robert M Sep 24th 2008 11:14AM
i think thats exactly what the blog says, though they are backwards in what drops where.

You guys should BOLD the questions, not the names (for readability)...

Pets:
Collectors Edition(s), Murky, and other Bind-to-Account Pets are NOT consumed when you learn them.

This is more of a pre-wrath patch 3.0 question, but how are various class specs looking in terms of the "bloat" that I've been hearing about? To be honest, when 3.0 comes I can easily see myself going almost 61 points deep into alot of the various talent specs of the classes I play. What classes are going to see the most radical realignment of talent choices in the period between 3.0 and wrath release?

"As far as I've seen, it consumes the item."
Don't forget about the pets that can be passed from toon to toon, like the WWI ones.

I spotted a rare mob in Dragonblight a couple days ago. It dropped a bag with 19 gold in it, and a blue cloth helm.

In regards to flight, what areas are restricted (besides Dalaran) and how to they prevent us from flying over the ocean? Is it a wall, or a new fatigue system?
Jeff Sep 24th 2008 11:41AM
I was wondering about this, too. I'd imagine they'd use Fatigue... or a hungry Kraken of some sort.
Havitech Oct 12th 2008 11:49AM
I flew just a little bit past the wall that borders Zul'drak, and a fatigue bar popped up.

I found a rare eliete(silver dragon border) mob in Borean Tundra last night. I believe it's name was Icehorn; it was along the south eastern coast, near the frozen earth elemental guys. It had the same model and coloring as the rhinos. I easily solo'ed it. When I looted it, I was given a blue BOE cloth helmet (Mammoth Helm Crown with a random enchantment) and a bag that contained some leather, a stack of frostweave and some gold. I was quite impressed by how much loot it dropped.

Is running Heroic dungeons still tied to faction reputation for individual dungeons? If so will this remain at honored or is this being reset back to a higher level upon launch?
MechaKingGhidra Sep 24th 2008 11:32AM
For the very beginning raid(s), due to the way gear will be more easily shared, do you believe this will solve the loot table problems with stat preferences encountered in, for example, the likes of Karazhan? Fury/Arms warriors and Retribution paladins didn't exactly get thought of, it seems. Either tank, heal, or wait until the more commonplace dps people are at the point of simply farming it so you can hope to pick up a cloak, neck, trinket, and/or weapon(s), maybe tier gloves and headpiece if you're exceptionally lucky.
Meanwhile, they've got most, if not all of the gear to progress to the next stage with the added bonus of several weeks or more worth of badges to help them get boosted up yet again while you're still left behind for a fair bit while you scrap up badges for as much vendor-provided gear that essentially removes you from having to do t4 to progress, save some select, obscure items. I'd much rather see as many people as possible progress at the same rate as opposed to the classic 'cookie-cutter' stereotypes having more leverage to jump ahead of everyone else.

As another answer to the pets question, I noticed on the PTR that pets/mounts that I had when I transfered my character would not be consumed when I put them into my spell book, but any additional ones I gained would be consumed when I used them. As an example, my onyx netherdrake stayed in my inventory after I learned it (until I deleted it), but when I flew out to Netherwing Ledge and picked up all the other colors they disappeared on use.

With Death Knights coming out, are there any plans on setting up Teir armor sets? For instance, take down Curator, and there is a T4 glove token he can use?
BillDoor Sep 24th 2008 2:44PM
No, Blizzard isn't going to be adding Death Knight gear to old content.
dpak Sep 25th 2008 10:13AM
I have some concerns about badge segregation (10m/h vs. 25m), and drop quantities.
It has to do with time/badge.
A full night of Kara will net you a lot of badges (even if your grp is NOT uber, you should get 7-12, if uber, 22).
A full night in a 25 man is much less, especially if progression content.
Has anyone given this any thought?
Perhaps I am mistaken....
Khanmora Sep 24th 2008 11:57AM
It should not take a 25 man group any longer to clear the same dungeon as the 10 man does. So, for example, 10 man Naxx and 25 man Naxx should take about the same amount of time. It's the same amount of bosses just a bit different hp, and in some cases mechanics. It would be like saying I can clear Kara 10 in 4 hours for 22 badges, and I can clear Kara 25 in 4 hours for 22 badges. The only difference is the type of badge gained.

I found a website about rare elites in outlands not to long ago. There are 3 in each zone. After finding out about them I attempted to track them all down. In the last two weeks I've only managed to find 2.
